China has used the Olympics as its political tool and boycotted it 6 times in the past. The excuse won't work one way. The Chinese has used a double talk in its entire history since 1949 when it's founded under Mao Zedong.

People's Republic of China did not attend Olympics until 1980,because PRC was only accepted by IOC as a member in 1979.
So tell me how can a country participate in the games without being a member?

1956 Melbourne, Australia - Chinese Delegates arrived at the game, but boycotted the game in the last minute for their Taiwan issue.
1960 Rome, Italy - Chinese boycotted the game for their Taiwan issue.
1964 Tokyo, Japan - Chinese boycotted the game for their Taiwan issue. They even conducted A-bomb test during the game.
1968 Mexico City, Mexico - Chinese boycotted the game for their Taiwan issue.
1972 Munich, West Germany - Chinese boycotted the game for their Taiwan issue.
1976 Montreal, Canada - Chinese boycotted the game for their Taiwan issue.
1980 Moscow, Soviet Union - Chinese boycotted the game for Soviet's Invasion to Afghanistan.
2008 Beijing, China - Now they tell everybody to not use the game for politics. LOL
This is a sign of the times. Thing will get much worse over the next few years. I believe that this is the tip of the iceberg
