the block is the LS3 block. Dry sump oil system, like how the Grand Sport is now. So, a grand sport engine would be the closest to an LS9 without the charger.
i love america, i mean we kick ass our v8 super car can beat v10 ferraris, or at least ferraris i cant remeber which ones but for the fraction of the price. haha so awsome
no they dont dumbass when have you ever heard of a STOCK honda beatig a stock corvette?????never..the only reason imports win is because they have turbos n shit....do the same work the v8 and the ricer would lose every race.
@bigbody001 see but my favorite part is that yeah the muscle cars would win. but dont forget that imports are for the most part designed to be economical not V8 gas monsters. thats why now all the American makers are bragging about fuel economy when the imports have been doing this for years. on that note of course american v8 will go faster than the stock import inline 4's. four less cyclinders. now make it even the aveos, fiestas, and cobalts fall short with Si's ,SPEC -Vs and WRXs
@w0rtown again my point is made you are pitting all of the souped up versions against base model american cars...ok here is a fair comparison
2010 Cobalt SS
260hp 2.0ltr turbocharged and intercooled
Nürburgring-tuned model costs $22,995
2010 Honda Civic Si
197-hp, 2.0-Liter K20Z3 Engine
cost $22,055
there is a fair comparison both are top of the line models and are in the same price bracket i think everyone who has a brain will go for the SS better gas mileage and the performance is better
@bigbody001 All though i'm gonna get some flack for my name its from my bike, not a civic fan but i do appreciate any high end performance vehicle import or domestic. acura(honda) nsx back in its day ate up vettes. N/A v6 at that.
Based on the prices of the other LS engines on the site, I'd hazzard a guess at over $20k. Well, there are plenty of other great GM crate engines! I know I like the LC9!
but is it twin supercharger capable? ( I'm thinking of making an insane challenger in my dream as I sleep cause this crate engine is going to cost out the ASS
it would be funny if the gm employee drove a ford or dodge

jake1231108 1 year ago
@jake1231108 because you buy them and they show up at your door or business in a crate. Buy them built and they come in a crate.

this motor in the vette gets 30mpg highway cruising in 6th gear od anywhere between 55-75 mph. pretty amazing for a motor with 638hp

I respect this engine and would love to slot it in an E30 M3 (Or a E60 M5 V10) :P but Europe is still the king in engine design.

"the LS9 is the most powerful engine GM has ever produced."
What??
The most powerful engine used in a production car.. but not the most powerful engine GM ever produced by a long shot.
booker357mag 3 years ago 2
ya i believe the most powerful GM motor is the v16 out of the cadillac sixteen 1000hp!
birdbeak22 3 years ago
I don't think they are couting the engine from the Sixteen for two reasons:
1 It did not reach production
2 It was not a V8
I think what they mean is that the LS9 is the most powerful production motor GM has made.
HeadTater 3 years ago
Right when he says the LS9 in the most powerful GM engine ever.. I would like to roll out a ZZ572 lol
