I love Franken's satire, even while questioning the moron. You can tell he's a comedian, until she makes that glib remark that was a pure lie. Then he got pissed.
Franken is right. We shouldn't count fixing early stages of cancer to our cancer survival rate. It should only be full blown stages of cancer that we should count. Man I'm so sick of this country and healthcare. I'm going to move to Cuba where people live long prosperous lives in harmony.
The average income earner in France takes home only around 50% of their total labour cost! A very high percentage of that taxed income is taken through mandated taxes meant to cover their social security fund which covers the universal health-care system. Yeah, I'm pretty sure that system has caused a bankruptcy or two in households around France. To say otherwise is misleading. Franken also won't mention the fact that these systems have long been in the red and need even more funding.
Man, you're so wrong, you don't even know... Watching USA fighting health care proposition is so funny, it's like you absolutely want to either die, or get bankrupt. We've been living with that tax rate in Belgium too, and for a long long time now... And you know what? When you don't have a work, or you have a low class work, or you don't work full time a week, you get money back from those tax you pay.
Plus, it's not totally accurate what you say: Let's say we get paid 1000€ as a 25hrs/week middle/low classe worker. From that we give up around 35%, which makes a 65% of your work that goes in your pocket every month (plus the bonus's: uniform washing payment, gas, communications, and so...).
Then when it is paytime (June for us), if you didn't work too much longer than your contract's time schedule, you get paid some of that money back.
I've never said "I" was working 25hrs a week, it is just a reference. You could be working from 10 to 80hrs a week but 25 is a good compromise.
As for how the provider gets paid, it's ruled by the finance organism, and I'm no economics experts so I won't talk about things I don't know of, but I do know this: the care you're being given has to enter a category (it is call a performance). With the invoice and proof of this performance, you go the social security organism,
@zeLordz .... wait so it's not free? You and franken just say it that way to hype it up or what? Or because honesty leads to real questions which proves Frankens' entire statement is a lie.. Why would I want a government monopoly on another industry? For over 200 years we the people have made this country, made this economy and helped each other. When the going gets tough its the people who turn it around. Now we're supposed to hope a European based system will take care of everything. Fuck that
@gotlogg healthcare is not free anywhere to answer your question. The question is whether a private insurance system provides a better service or a public system... or hybrid of both. I ve personally experienced both and Im telling you without hesitation that a hybrid system is the way to go. A public option must run along side a private option to keep everything honest. in the absence of one, costs for either the taxpayer or the consumer rises rapidly depending on which system is remaining
@dagorian86 That was my point. Healthcare isn't ever free and people (like zlordz) use that phraseology to be purposely deceptive. Also, I highly doubt you've ever experienced a purely private insurance system as none that I'm aware of exist in any modernized society. They are all influenced, regulated and partially funded through public means. Even when Bush was the president.
Franken is a mental midget sissy boy. What is with Minnesota and voting in all these losers... Hey Turk, Franken does not know his stuff...and neither do you!
@Shyhalu lol time will tell and time is on my side- you on the other hand mock what you dont know and that is dangerous- have fun with whats left of the rest of your life
@OOPS4U2CNOW I don't mock what I don't know. I mock what YOU THINK you know. Time isn't on your side because science discovers more and more about the universe and all signs are pointing to the idea that your deity is an imaginary friend. Regardless of that, you call these people braindead while you worship without concrete proof of what you are worshipping. Like I said, you don't have much room to call others braindead.
@Shyhalu Sorry but more and more scientist and turning away from your way of thinking and embracing I.D. and soon you will be the minority and then what are you going to do when you’re looked at as the fool who believes disproved theories of the Universe.
But I digress-believe what you want even if it is wrong…
Conservatism is an utter failure of an ideology. Throughout history almost everything they opposed and fight against becomes reality in this country. Allowing women to vote, interracial marriage, social security, welfare, abortion, civil right, and now even gay people are allowed to get married in some states. Hell they cant even be fiscally conservative and balance the budget when they have the presidency and both houses of congress, instead they raise the deficit even worse that the liberals.
@aptex In your mind the majority of conservatives have a problem with civil rights, woman being allowed to vote and interracial marriage? You can't be serious. OK, using that logic I will say that because Democrats supported Robert Byrd for 50 plus years then they are all KKK supporters. And, because dems voted against civil rights acts in congress that means today all liberals are against black people being given equal rights. Liberals love abortions too, obviously. Oh and they HATE freedom!
that really was truly fantastic. sweet Al. we could use him here in california.
he might be a cemedian, but he really does know what he talks about. thing i like about him most is oe of the only ones who seems to care about leveling out the playing field. making it fair for more of us. some of you might not like his entertainment side, but you should not let yourself be prejudice against the man so much that you cant think straight.he wants and seems to be trying to do whats best for many of us
don't worry al...maybe you can explain..why the presidents experts have said..there is no money to pay for it..and all of us..i repeat..all of us have to pay for it next year.....and explain to me..why people come to the us to get medical treatment when they have state run medical care in thier country????...wow al....maybe if you run for re-election...you won't win.....and you can go back into comedy..because u are really cracking me up now with your liberal bs.
i feel that the reason Al Franken is going to be so successful is for one he is highly intelligent he does his homework he obviously checks his facts and i believe he really cares about his constituents to bad we don't have someone like him here in Fla.
People make far too many false assumptions about how healthcare works here in Europe. It works, not perfectly, but nothing works perfectly. That's why so many European countries have it. Why else would they?
I remember when one of our politicians from the UK went to the US to complain about how bad our healthcare system was (for publicity obviously). You won't believe how much shit he got coming at him when he returned.
he is so dumb its crazy how people like him can even get elected. she listens to his non sense facts about 0 bankruptcys and she asks him the survival rate in those countries and he says its not a fact. he doesnt have an answer so he attacks her thats not politcs. universal health care is a joke.
how many groundbreaking medicines were produced in Switzerland and France? How many deaths related to negligent medical care were reported in those countries? Does either country have a big enough army to protect itself, or does it rely on America's? The problem with Frankens view of the world is that at some point you have to decide that the free market is incapable of supporting "the masses" and government must take its place, but the government does not produce anything and only takes
you my friend are a fuckin idiot. you know nothing and expect the government to give you stuff. i dont even understand what a "anti health care person" is. we need reform but your a scumbag if you actually believe socialized health care is a good thing. how come a canadian politician came here for treatment earlier this week?
Well spanky, I'll be more courteous to you than you were capable of. We have great hospitals, technology, physicians. Rich people from other countries will always come for that. The questions you should ask are: Why are 47 million people NOT covered through no fault of their own? Why do 40,000 die needlessly each year because they had no health care? Why is the greatest cause of bankruptcy the inability to pay medical bills because an ins. company just dropped people who gto sick?
What do you mean by no fault of there own. They didnt go to college and didnt do anything with there lives so we have to pick up the slack.that is socialism. And this bankruptcy fact is non existant there is no fact saying that. when does strengthening the central government ever help. if you can show me one time in history where socialized health care worked. if you do you win OBAMA but until then its just facts. conservatives go by history not by what robin hood would do
maybe you're just slow. Thousands lose their health insurance every month and here's why: they got too sick. The ass hole insurance companies drop them without even telling them. Your ins. company has no requirement to insure you whether you pay your premium or not. So, better hope you don't get too sick because it won't matter how much fricken education you have. You're out and could lose your house trying to pay those huge bills. Yup, we have the worst health care in the civilized world.
i dont even know what you are trying to argue. if you are saying that we have the worst health care in the world lets go to haiti for instance they have great health care. lets try nazi germany nice. oh what about Maoist China that was good too. oh how about stalin lead russia that was great too. Beuracracy is a beautiful thing its not the one thing that our four fathers warned us about. or do you not have any knowledge of history. Do you believe obama is gonna have the same healthcare as you ha
I hope you are just pretending to be stupid. If you have to compare our health care system to Haiti, Nazi Germany or Maoist China, Stalin's Russia, to have us look good, you are admitting exactly what I said: we have the worst health care system in the civilized world. If case you never noticed, the countries you mentioned are NOT in our civilized world.
Do you know anything about history. all of the nations that i named all were socialist and had socialized health care why do you not go to etheopia for your brain transplant that you so despretly need thats right your gonna get it here. but if this is passed your gonna have to wait in a 3 day long line to get in the ER. every illegal is gonna be in there everytime they get a tummy ache. its not a good scenerio im just saying i hope that i changed your mind so in the next electin you are informed
They were dictatorships!. Almost every European Country has national health care and they are all democracies. Even Costa Rica has health care that covers way more than in the U.S. and costs much less. Most countries with national health care spend no more than half of what we spend and they cover everybody doing it. You clearly have been watching too much fox fiction. You'll never get the truth there.
First off i dont watch FOX im more of a radio talk show type of guy. But you say that Fox lies, what does CNN and MSNBC do. They report on nothing that has to do with politcs, its always on popculture or people doing fundraisers. i flipped on CNN and they said that obama had his way with the GOP at the q&a when in all reality that is far from what happened. Maybe if you watched it you might learn that we tried universal health care in certain states and it turned out to be a terrible failure
I watched the entire exchange between Obama and the repubicans and Obma kicked ass. Fox knows it because they would only show a few segments of it.
Now, for your remedial lesson: Dictatorships are rarely socialistic in the genuine sense. All of European Countries are democatic AND virtually all of them have national health care and not all of them are socialist countries.
What Obama proposed was in NO WAY socialist. But, because you are too ignorant to know better, you remain in the dark.
i really dont believe that you watched through it because you would have seen that obama was clearly uncomfortable. you clearly got your info from a bias news source. but btw he kicked ass i dont get it he is the president he is supposed to listen to the ideas and embrace not defend ideas that they are disproving their effectiveness. You are just so fucking dumb that you dont believe that SOCIALIZED health care is socialist so im done argueing you are clearly an ingnoramus with no actual view
Now you have begun to prove that you are, indeed an idiot. Yes SOCIALIZED health care is socialism! duh! But the Obama proposal of National Health Care was NOT socialized health care.
Pleeeeeeese, read a book before trying to defend your beliefs because you just make yourself look bad, sort of like those republicans with Obama!
so the government buying out companies isnt socialist. you are still yet to give me a time where strengthening the central government worked. So until then im done
Our government doesn't control one single private company. The bail outs amount loans. Much of it has been paid back. Those bail outs began in the Bush administration. Obama just put more restraints on them. So, you still haven't got it right. That's already strike 3. You just struck out!
Yes, I did watch the entire thing. CNN had it all but Fox wouldn't do it because the Republicans went down hard.
The statement that the government bought companies implies something that is an outright lie. Of course the tea party idiots are to stupid to know otherwise. By bailing out those companies Obama averted a great depression. Economics Lesson: In a recession money is not availalbe, purchasing stops, manufacturing stop. Gee what will work? Infusing the economy with money to get it jump started again. That's what Obama did, thank God! The Obama administration runs zero companies.
@landsdown44, European Countries are not democratic. We are not even democratic thats even further right than a Replublic. European Countries are closer to Fascism and we are beginning to lean that way as well. Especially if Congress passes this health care plan.
@jmwilliams726 Please, before you make a comment at least know the definition of "democratic". European Countries are virtuall ALL democratic. And you also know zero about the health care plan. There is nothing in it that is a government "take over". That is just right wing lying rhetoric from people who are brainless such as limbaugh and beck.
As for you fifth grade analysis of my arguement. yes they are dictatorships but also socialism. you imbasil socialism is an economic ideal its not what the leader is. You might have skipped that chapter in your remedial politics for dumbies book
ya i dont know what socialism is. yet you are defending SOCIALIZED health care. The government taking as much as one dollar from one person to give to another is socialism and i dont understand how people think that stealing is wrong except if your the government
Thank you! You just proved you have no idea what socialism is. I suggest you look it up. Maybe you will even learn something. It might be a whole new experience for you.
I think I finally got why I like people like Franken. They are outside of the political system and they are closer to the mainstream/people ideas. They are not (yet) influenced by corporations/lobbyists and I love that. We need more of that kind of smart people. I don't care what background they are from as long as they work for the people and not corporation. Hell I would vote for a porn star in the mix IF she is smart and know politic (calm down... that doesn't exist yet)
FRANKEN FOR PRESIDENT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! HE WOULDNT BE A FUCKING LITTLE BITCH OBAMA IS BEING! Obama is being pushed around like he does not have the majority! Grow some fucking balls sir and do what we elected you to do!
LOL... I Hate france, but you know what Get real buddy and its time to get healthcare right! My dad and grandfather Died from it as soon as they had NO MORE FUCKEN MONEY!!
What I'm saying is, if you just compare US cancer patients with adequate insurance who get full treatment to Europeans or Canadians, it's suspect, because not all Americans have health coverage in the first place.
What I'm saying is, if you just compare US cancer patients with adequate insurance who get full treatment to Europeans or Canadians, it's suspect, because not all Americans have health coverage in the first place.
Do the studies that compare US vs. European cancer survival rates compare samples of cancer patients representative of the populations as a whole, or just patients who get a full regimen of treatment in both cases? Because there's a difference--in the US, unlike Europe, there are many people who don't have insurance & can't get proper treatment.
Franken is a sharp cookie and people ought to stop thinking he is just a jokester. Did you know that he also has done USO tours in the countries we are at war in? So he isn't a chicken either, nor a bad American. And clearly, he cares about people....how unsenatorial! Minnesota is lucky to have him to make up for Michele Bachmann.
You can't say that the number of bankruptcies attributable to medical care costs are zero in a country which socializes the care - because the cost of medical care is reflected in the tax system - its the cost of business that can never come to be because the tax system is so oppressive that they cannot become profitable. The price paid is reflected in lost oppurtunities.
Like this women, you just make up stuff and hope that folks are too stupid to look up the actual numbers and think about it.
Do you have any actual numbers that more German business fail due to American ones?
This would appear odd as a) startup companies don't make profits and therefore don't pay much taxes, b) German companies would pay little (if any) healthcare costs, c) their banking system is secure, and d) their unemployment rate is much lower.
I did not make up the law of compensation, the lady was not making anything up also, she was citing (or trying to cite a statistic from Antonio Verduicco of the American Cancer Society Lancet Oncology Review 2000-2002) which showed that the U.S. has among the best cancer survival rates in the world.
You implied that more German companies fail due to higher tax rates. I doubted this and asked if you had any actual numbers or studies which show that German small companies fail more than US ones.
And... like the woman in the video... you now try to change topics from bankrupies to something else.
The question is fundamentally flawed, the two cases are incomparable and it's relation to the topic of health care is irrelevant, companies fail for a variety of reasons, not just costs associated with the health care system.
Economics is considered the dismal science for a reason, the statistics you are looking for are meaningless.
You know I personally conducted a survey consisting of 55 doctors and 12 dentists, of those over one-in-four doctors were not accepting new patients regardless of their insurance, and nearly one-in-three dentists were not accepting a new patient regardless of their insurance, the average wait time for doctors who were accepting new patients was 15.7 days the study was conducted in early September. And consisted of doctors in the Virginia Shenandoah region.
You neglect the fact that Al Fraken didn't look up the statistics that bankruptcies attributable to health care costs are zero, like I said the costs are subsidized so that it makes such a metric exceedingly difficult. There is no answer to your question, and your logic is terribly short-sided.
And you know for a fact that he didn't look them up? Of course he looked them up. And certainly no one (even you) is doubting him.
If there is no answer to my question, then your implication that public heathcare costs businesses is completely unsupportable. If you can't back up a statement... don't make it.
She said that moving to a European-style healthcare system would increase medical bankruptcies. She didn't state doing so would increase taxes or increase business failures, etc.
He's saying that the statistic was cherrypicked, only including the more easily survived ones, contrasted with a European study with a larger sample group. dumbass.
You don't make any statements, you're just pure emotion. How is emotion ever helpful in politics? Oh yeah, that's right, when political expediency (read: marginalization) is needed.
Take it easy Paintero, you only wish "my side" was that stupid.
You're entire argument is predicated upon the Republican party, of which I am not a member. Palin was and is a bad idea, much like elected a comedian who wants to play politician.
I feel sorry for the thousands who fell victim to predatory lending, and most certainly do not live in a bubble.
Having said that, taking responsibility is a thing of the past, and rather than fixing things Obama took the quick-fix-blame-Bush routine, and we are all worse off for it
I have bills, just like you. It's not MY job to pay OTHER people's bills, either- yours included, nor should I have to work for free, nor should YOU be allowed to determine MY salary.
And you never did answer my question...who DOES pay for my bills?
We DO have problems. But more gov. is NOT the answer.
"The problem with socialism is, sooner or later, you will run out of other people's money." Margaret Thatcher
Painter, the reason we're the greatest nation on Earth and yet still have homeless people is for this reason: Capitalism is not a zero sum game. People can fail under it as well as succeed. Either one of those scenarios comes about because of FREEDOM. We shouldn't have government meddling in the free markets and TAKING AWAY that freedom in order to ensure EVERYONE succeeds. That's redistribution of the wealth. That's Marxism. That's communism. And it doesn't work.
No kidding! It is as if these idiots think that "life is fair"! bwwhahaaaa.
Even as a child I understood that "Life is NOT fair", so how does this axiom fall on deaf ears when dealing with "educated" people is beyond me.
Quinno, we are truly dealing with people of a lower order. When obvious truths (like the fact that you cannot spend your way out of debt) are avoided and defamed you know we're headed down a bad path, led by Obama, Pelosi, and Reid. Hold onto your wallet.
I'm glad you brought up holding on to your wallet 'cause that reminds me of a great bumber sticker I saw on a car while I was at a recent tea party. You'll love and appreciate this. Heck, you might have even seen it already. It said: Your "fair share" is not in my wallet!"
Who DOES pay for the doctor's school loans, overhead, employees, equipment, car loan, house loan, and food? One x-ray machine can easily cost $100,000! An MRI machine can run up to $1,000,000! Who do you think is going to pay for all of that? You think he lives for free? He has bills just like you.
As far as the illegals are concerned, I don't give a crap WHERE they come from, if they are illegal, get them the hell out of here. We shouldn't give any of them one dime.
I am not great when it comes to political discussions, but one thing I wanted to point out is that a lot of negative comments on here are through people who are very ill informed and sounds like they are just repeating sound bites of conservative commentators. Your information should come from your own investigation and your own gathered facts rather than a political commentator who gain their popularity by throwing around ignorant banter. My two cents.
Wow,liberals are impressed by a life long COMEDIAN???Keep on drinking your kool-aid dill holes, when you finally are feeling the effects of your governments take over of health care please feel free to give me a buzz and tell me how much more you are paying.I mean really, what incentive will our government have to keep costs down?We can't live without HC and they know it,they will have us by the gonads(other for females).Keep on putting your faith in government, they have been doing so well.
I am a Republican. We had power. What was the result of us having power? We did things we formerly called liberal and evil. We grew government, we attacked countries that were no threat to us and didn't attack us, we passed big government laws to make it easier for government to spy on us, we advocated torture and secrecy. I mean, with our own acting that way, why should the folks we might want to convert believe a thing we have to say? And...that insane Whack job Palin.
There's no freakin' way you're a republican. If you are, you're a piss-poor r.i.n.o. at that. Republicans indeed had power and grew government. This is why they lost. They abandoned conservatism. It most certainly was NOT because of torture (conservatives recognize the need for it in order to obtain valuable info. This was borne out by all the foiled terrorist attacks both overseas and no doubt here). Iraq & Afghanistan didn't attack us, but that's where the terrorists got all their support from
No...you fascist and religious whack jobs like that freak Sarah Palin hijacked the party. Our mantra in modern times ( Certainly not when it was the party of that skunk Lincoln ) return to the constitution, smaller government , and stay out of foreign entanglements.. There is no need for torture or else the government you love so much will be torturing your own in the name of some B.S. they deem necessary.
You and your kind are not Republicans. Your fascist and your out of power.
You got 2 out of 3! The constitution and smaller government is what we need to get back to. You're a barking moonbat though if you think we just went willy-nilly into "foreign entanglements." Let me give you a little history lesson here, Atom. It was the terrorists and those who supported them that were the upstarts, not us. Remeber 9/11? On that day, terrorists - backed by their despot sponsors - carried out an unprovoked attack against us, killing thousands. Blame America first? No way, scum
You best go back and read your government school educated history about foreign entanglements. By the way...why have we been over there in the middle east since WWI? You think we have been looking out for their best interest. You think we might just be Israel's do boys and cash cow? Oh..I forgot...I'll bless those that bless thee..ha.ha. Yes...I remember 9/11. The building fell straight down. Demolition teams don't get it that perfect. Who owned those buildings?
We've been in the middle east since WWI? Really?! Before Carter's attempt at the hostage rescue, when and where? What the hell history books are YOU reading, pal?! As far as 9/11 goes, I was right all along. You ARE a barking moonbat. What a freakin' truther nutjob.
Western countries have been in the middle east since the end of WWI. How do you think Iraq was formed. Want to do a bit of a history search on how Saddam came to power. Who cares about the moron Carter. He was fool and another religious whack job. As far as 9/11 goes..if you believe the 9/11 commission. your the barking moon bat. Not..trusting government is supposed to be a Republican mantra. Until Bush...now Republicans love government. Ha..I also knew you would resort to name calling
BTW: I voted for Reagan, Bush I, Bush II the first time. I have never once voted for a Democrat. I voted third party in the last election because I couldn't stomach the religious rights chosen V.P. or the left leaning big government McCain't. The Bush administration was simply vile. As bad or worse than any Democrat we have ever had in office including the current one. The one good thing about it, is it has diminished the influence of the religious right nuts.
I don't even know what a truther is. I have never once seen the term. I simply don't buy, that two planes flew into the trade tower and that's all there is. Not only that, if we needed all the Patriot act, torture and central intelligence Czar to save us from all those terrorist from the middle east. Why are we still allowing them to immigrate here? Why are our borders still not closed? Why do we still aid Saudi Arabia the biggest exporter of terrorist?
You act like those questions have never been asked. I'd like to know too.
As for Oil and Saudi Arabia, it's the Dems fault we don't drill more domestically. And illegals, trust me, I'm from Texas, and terrorism is only one of the concerns with the border.
I looked up truther. I'm not one of those. However..I do have many doubts about the buildings falling. I have seen demolitions that don't get buildings to fall that straight.
Drilling on our own soil. We could drill until the kingdom comes and it wouldn't make much of a difference. Seriously, most of the geological surveys know where the large oil reserves are and America just doesn't have them. Folks want us to believe that, so a few can make money where they can't at the moment.
We have enormous reserves in North America, the Canadian tar sands have been found to have around 1.7 trillion barrels of oil, nearly as much as the ME. That does not even take into account off-shore, the U.S. (including Alaska), and other Canadian oil reserves. A recent reserve was found in Mexico as well. Point is, we have more than enough to sustain ourselves, but the Democrats will not allow it. This is not hating on the Democrats, though I am, it is merely a fact they block drilling here
So my question (and I could care less if your hating on the Dems since I am not one)
Do believe in drilling at any cost? At whoever or whatever expense? Realizing that a huge group of people with much to gain have a say in what is printed out about oil reserves. I'm about as trusting of big business and I am government. which are pretty much one in the same anyway.
I'm glad to see you feel that way. In my view, the Federal Government is the biggest, baddest, meanest, and richest corporation out there.
I do not think that our reserves here are falsified. Oil is obviously abundant in the ME, so to think that would be unique makes no sense.
What cost? Billions of less dollars end up in foreign (read: dangerous) hands. It SHOULD lower costs nearly all around, as oil is a component of many products. Logistics are such a pain for oil companies, and add cost
The Democrats have opened up millions of acres to drill in the United States. The US oil companies have leases on acres and acres and they are not drilling. Why? They want to keep the supply low so the price is high. There was an oil spill of the coast of Santa Barbara, CA in the 80's and the beaches for miles are still thrashed. We need to GET OFF oil and start in another clean direction. And if you want nuclear in your state, thats cool, but YOUR state should store the waste!
You're right, we should all drive cars that run on nuclear power.
Of course, I am joking around, but there are no alternatives. Can you name any?
Coal is the real "polluter" anyhow, not the cars we drive. Hybrids are no better, as all the batteries they use cause even more environmentally hazards. The battery plant that Toyota used for their hybrids is in Canada, life surrounding the plant has all but ceased to exist. Go look it up.
I like nuclear plants, I think it's the only viable way to go
I think we have the technology for "clean" batteries. I also think coal burning plants should eventually shut down. Nuclear? I am all for it! We have come a long ways in that technology and they are safe, BUT if your state has one, your state stores the waste. I really think that is the way to go. The states would then get very involved and as they say in politics, they would have skin in the game!
Well in the first place, battery technology is severely lacking in power already, so to make to add the pressure of making them "clean" (which does not exist today) is simple too much to ask, not to mention how are these batteries going to be charged?!
It would be much safer to go national and store all of the nuclear waste in one or two locations. States do not have the funding available to do such a thing, it must be Federal.
Coal represents upwards of 70% of our current energy (cont.)
to eliminate coal "eventually" surely is possible, but in no way is it in thte "near" future.
The State of Texas leads the entire world in wind energy productions, but since we do not have proper ways to store high quantities of electricity (battery problem again) it is not profitable as of now.
Think Phillip, we've been paying $5 for 4AA batteries for years and years now, and you thought the Oil Companies were screwing you.
Different kind of battery. Kinda like a rechargable battery, but better. High up front cost, but they have a long shelf life. The batteries we use in our toys and cars are a different animal. If they took 100 square miles of the Nevada desert and put up solar panels, it would power America. The problem is the storage of that power. Someone in their garage is probably working on that as we speak!
Agree about the coal. And right on for wind in Texas!
Then make the storage of nuclear waste a federal expense and the states store it. I don't think one state should have to take on the waste of another. That would force the technology is get better in the storage process. Like Yucca mountain. Do you think it is fair that Nevada should take California's nuclear waste? I don't! All states would be happy and the Nuke Reg Association would only getting pressure from 1 or 2 states, not all the ones that wanted a nuke plant!
I figured you were from Nevada. You must realize that it is too expensive and less environmentally friendly to have so many nuclear waste sites.
As for those who don't want it, what are they going to do? The very reason we are only talking about nuclear power is because it is the only viable alternative as of now.
No, I am in California. Environmentally friendly? That is a nice way of saying "toxic". They should perfect the storage issue to the point where you wouldn't mind having the storage site in your backyard. Again, I am all for nuclear power. Clean and efficient. Except for the storage.
Yucca Mountain is the perfect example of politics over-riding science. It was more politically important to push for Yucca Mountain. The reason it is not storing waste now is because it is built on an earthquake fault. Millions and millions of dollars spent, and it will never open.
Yes because your government is so much more likely to fleece people while privately owned insurance companies will take a philanthropic stance. That makes perfect sense. Really, it does...
Oh and an awful lot of US citizens are forced to live without healthcare, either because they cannot afford it, or because they have the audacity to have pre existing health conditions
No offensive, but you just come off as another holier-than-thou foreigner who actually think they could run the U.S. better than we do. It's a lot more difficult than running G.B. I would imagine. Which, as of late, is in worse shape than even the U.S.
I'm not trying to be rude, but you have only offered talking points that I hear over and over again the American Left.
You actually said that healthcare and the economy are mutually-exclusive, proof of your utter lack of depth on this subject.
No, look at my post response before, i didn't say healthcare and economy are exclusive, I have previously stated why the economic argument isn't totally relevant. As for talking points, its because the arguments that have been offered don't actually hold much water.
As for the holier attitude, not at all. I just see how well it works here (not perfect) and see how many people suffer due to the fatal flaws of the US healthcare.
Trust me beans, no matter what surgery it is, we offer it in a better (maybe not cheaper) form than they do in England. We rank poorly in equality of care, and we need to fix that, but we certainly have some of the best facilities and doctors in the world.
Economic impact is perhaps the MOST relevant.
I am quite through arguing with some wanker from England. Cheerio
You keep spouting the same arguments which I have previously debunked. Instead of simply stating that you have the bestest care, find some stats which back your stance up, rather than taking the ball home because people aren't saying your right all the time
Also, I have not said economy is not relevant, just that you are wildly overestimating what effect a change in system would have on your economic strength. Thats my fault, should have made that clearer
If medical debt leads to bankruptcy at the individual level, then it makes absolutely no sense to kick the problem to the next higher level and add it to the national debt. People like Cenk Uygur think that government money is FREE money. The official national debt is $12 trillion, but if you add promises made for Social Security and Medicare, we are talking about a debt of $60 trillion ... the estimated GDP of the planet.
You are a moron, your argument is wrong on so many levels it is astounding. Truly astounding. How many countries have been bankrupted by universal healthcare? You got it, it none, a big fat zero. And, universal healthcare would lead to a reduction in the % of GDP spent on healthcare, (look at WHO rankings), ergo your country would have more money, and better healthcare. How can people not see this?
It is YOUR argument that is flawed. We've seen what the government has done with the gov. run programs that are ALREADY in place.
Social Security is on the verge of bankruptcy and would have ALREADY been bankrupt had the gov. not allocated more funds. Medicare and Medicaid- same thing. Even the post office is 8 BILLION dollars in debt!
Since the evidence is overwhelming against the gov's ability to run ANY social programs efficiently, it is YOU who is the moron.
You have just completely ignored my point ad spouted some irrelevant bs. Once again, no country has been bankrupted by universal healthcare, and the reduction in the amount spent on healthcare will leave your country with more money. How can you not understand this, its pretty basic stuff like. See what happens when you don't go off topic, you can make a sensible and relevant point.
No country has gone bankrupt because of it's LACK of universal health care, either. But we are NOT a socialistic society. We are a capitalistic republic.
If you want to live in a socialistic society- there are plenty of countries to choose from. More power to you.
But our system works well and works BEST when the government stays out of it. That's why America has led the world in invention, innovation, and entrepreneurship since it's inception.
1st I live in the UK, another capitalistic republic with universal healthcare. You don't need to be socialist. Other examples include canada, france, germany.
As for your system working best, well that is just patently incorrect. Why would your healthcare be rated 37th when you spend the second highest % of your gdp in the world on healthcare. Surprisingly, your behind all the socialist republics I mentioned. Read up on the subject for yourself, don't just believe the speculation.
I would hardly call the UK a capitalistic republic. More like a Constitutional Monarchy or a Parliamentary Democracy- neither of which compares.
Nevertheless, our system DOES work best WHEN THE GOV STAYS OUT OF IT! I would argue that the ONLY reason our ranking has declined is BECAUSE of government intrusion, not the lack thereof, and continues to decline the more the government gets involved. The worst hospitals in our system are gov. run. Just look at our VA hospitals!
Yes because your gov run hospitals have lowest funding due to your system. As for government intrusion, its not that at all. Its because you have terrible inequality, because its a private cover based system, which millions cant afford, a problem solved by universal care. As for the UK, its a free market economy, same as US and our parliament holds similar standing to the senate.
Also, to see the real effects of inequality, look at Lancet oncol 2007 shows significant diff in cancer survival between rich and poor states and also a 16% difference between white and black people
Right now, a total bum off the street can walk into ANY emergency room in the country, claim he's got the worst headache he's ever had, and get a FREE MRI, x-rays, hospital stay, and medication, because the law says that he can- and he doesn't even have to be here legally!
THAT'S the kind of crap that's ruining our system! THAT'S the kind of crap we need to do away with- and that's just one of the hundreds of examples I could give.
Maybe thats true, but if there is something wrong with him, the level of care is dreadful in community. To be fair though, arguing against paying for others care is valid. Don't personally agree with it though
Beans: Obama has already TRIPLED the deficit that Bush left over 8 years and 2 Wars, another Trillion dollar program is inconceivably right now, no matter how "broken" it is.
Obama labeled himself has pragmatist, yet he has exhibited zero of that trait.
To quote the Englishman Daniel Hannan,
"You cannot spend your way out of a recession or borrow your way out of debt...... You know, and we know, and you know that we know that it's nonsense."
Well Obama has already tripled the deficit, so does that mean we're all going to be millionaires?!? ha
You're just another person suffering from Bush Derangement Syndrome. Obama has been in office for nearly and has got nothing done.
Did you know that Bush is second only to Clinton (because of the proliferation of the internet) in the number of consecutive quarters of economic growth? Fact.
"Poor people been voting Democrat for the last 50 years, and they're still poor" -- Charles Barkley
And as for no country going bankrupt, that is true, but watch the video. Does it not concern you that a startling number of your compatriots are forced to declare bankruptcy due to your 'best' system?
Our system DOES need an overhaul- that we can agree on. But the first and best thing we could do is to get the government out of it.
Doctors perform unnecessary tests DAILY simply out of fear of a lawsuit. Some simply because Medicare will pay for it. Corruption is everywhere and in everything, but nothing compares to government corruption- it's the only kind of corruption I know of that is LEGAL!

Franken is right. We shouldn't count fixing early stages of cancer to our cancer survival rate. It should only be full blown stages of cancer that we should count. Man I'm so sick of this country and healthcare. I'm going to move to Cuba where people live long prosperous lives in harmony.

TheFunkadelicFan 1 year ago
The average income earner in France takes home only around 50% of their total labour cost! A very high percentage of that taxed income is taken through mandated taxes meant to cover their social security fund which covers the universal health-care system. Yeah, I'm pretty sure that system has caused a bankruptcy or two in households around France. To say otherwise is misleading. Franken also won't mention the fact that these systems have long been in the red and need even more funding.
gotlogg 1 year ago
@gotlogg
@gotlogg
Man, you're so wrong, you don't even know... Watching USA fighting health care proposition is so funny, it's like you absolutely want to either die, or get bankrupt. We've been living with that tax rate in Belgium too, and for a long long time now... And you know what? When you don't have a work, or you have a low class work, or you don't work full time a week, you get money back from those tax you pay.
zeLordz 1 year ago
@gotlogg
And if you ARE sick, health care is free...
zeLordz 1 year ago
LOL... keep working 25 hrs a week and we'll keep putting in the real work over here...
Hey if healthcare is free then how does the provider get paid?
gotlogg 1 year ago
@gotlogg
With the invoice and proof of this performance, you go the social security organism,
zeLordz 1 year ago
@zeLordz .... wait so it's not free? You and franken just say it that way to hype it up or what? Or because honesty leads to real questions which proves Frankens' entire statement is a lie.. Why would I want a government monopoly on another industry? For over 200 years we the people have made this country, made this economy and helped each other. When the going gets tough its the people who turn it around. Now we're supposed to hope a European based system will take care of everything. Fuck that
gotlogg 1 year ago
@gotlogg healthcare is not free anywhere to answer your question. The question is whether a private insurance system provides a better service or a public system... or hybrid of both. I ve personally experienced both and Im telling you without hesitation that a hybrid system is the way to go. A public option must run along side a private option to keep everything honest. in the absence of one, costs for either the taxpayer or the consumer rises rapidly depending on which system is remaining
dagorian86 11 months ago
@dagorian86 That was my point. Healthcare isn't ever free and people (like zlordz) use that phraseology to be purposely deceptive. Also, I highly doubt you've ever experienced a purely private insurance system as none that I'm aware of exist in any modernized society. They are all influenced, regulated and partially funded through public means. Even when Bush was the president.

Conservatism is an utter failure of an ideology. Throughout history almost everything they opposed and fight against becomes reality in this country. Allowing women to vote, interracial marriage, social security, welfare, abortion, civil right, and now even gay people are allowed to get married in some states. Hell they cant even be fiscally conservative and balance the budget when they have the presidency and both houses of congress, instead they raise the deficit even worse that the liberals.
aptex 1 year ago 3
@aptex In your mind the majority of conservatives have a problem with civil rights, woman being allowed to vote and interracial marriage? You can't be serious. OK, using that logic I will say that because Democrats supported Robert Byrd for 50 plus years then they are all KKK supporters. And, because dems voted against civil rights acts in congress that means today all liberals are against black people being given equal rights. Liberals love abortions too, obviously. Oh and they HATE freedom!

SpAnKyHaM1938 2 years ago
Well spanky, I'll be more courteous to you than you were capable of. We have great hospitals, technology, physicians. Rich people from other countries will always come for that. The questions you should ask are: Why are 47 million people NOT covered through no fault of their own? Why do 40,000 die needlessly each year because they had no health care? Why is the greatest cause of bankruptcy the inability to pay medical bills because an ins. company just dropped people who gto sick?
landsdown44 2 years ago
What do you mean by no fault of there own. They didnt go to college and didnt do anything with there lives so we have to pick up the slack.that is socialism. And this bankruptcy fact is non existant there is no fact saying that. when does strengthening the central government ever help. if you can show me one time in history where socialized health care worked. if you do you win OBAMA but until then its just facts. conservatives go by history not by what robin hood would do
SpAnKyHaM1938 2 years ago
maybe you're just slow. Yup, we have the worst health care in the civilized world.
landsdown44 2 years ago
i dont even know what you are trying to argue. if you are saying that we have the worst health care in the world lets go to haiti for instance they have great health care. lets try nazi germany nice. oh what about Maoist China that was good too. oh how about stalin lead russia that was great too. Beuracracy is a beautiful thing its not the one thing that our four fathers warned us about. or do you not have any knowledge of history. Do you believe obama is gonna have the same healthcare as you ha
SpAnKyHaM1938 2 years ago
I hope you are just pretending to be stupid. If you have to compare our health care system to Haiti, Nazi Germany or Maoist China, Stalin's Russia, to have us look good, you are admitting exactly what I said: we have the worst health care system in the civilized world. If case you never noticed, the countries you mentioned are NOT in our civilized world.
landsdown44 2 years ago
Do you know anything about history. all of the nations that i named all were socialist and had socialized health care why do you not go to etheopia for your brain transplant that you so despretly need thats right your gonna get it here. but if this is passed your gonna have to wait in a 3 day long line to get in the ER. every illegal is gonna be in there everytime they get a tummy ache. its not a good scenerio im just saying i hope that i changed your mind so in the next electin you are informed
SpAnKyHaM1938 2 years ago
They were dictatorships!. Almost every European Country has national health care and they are all democracies. Even Costa Rica has health care that covers way more than in the U.S. and costs much less. Most countries with national health care spend no more than half of what we spend and they cover everybody doing it. You clearly have been watching too much fox fiction. You'll never get the truth there.
landsdown44 2 years ago
First off i dont watch FOX im more of a radio talk show type of guy. But you say that Fox lies, what does CNN and MSNBC do. They report on nothing that has to do with politcs, its always on popculture or people doing fundraisers. i flipped on CNN and they said that obama had his way with the GOP at the q&a when in all reality that is far from what happened. Maybe if you watched it you might learn that we tried universal health care in certain states and it turned out to be a terrible failure
SpAnKyHaM1938 2 years ago
I watched the entire exchange between Obama and the repubicans and Obma kicked ass. Fox knows it because they would only show a few segments of it.
Now, for your remedial lesson: Dictatorships are rarely socialistic in the genuine sense. All of European Countries are democatic AND virtually all of them have national health care and not all of them are socialist countries.
What Obama proposed was in NO WAY socialist. But, because you are too ignorant to know better, you remain in the dark.
landsdown44 2 years ago 3
i really dont believe that you watched through it because you would have seen that obama was clearly uncomfortable. you clearly got your info from a bias news source. but btw he kicked ass i dont get it he is the president he is supposed to listen to the ideas and embrace not defend ideas that they are disproving their effectiveness. You are just so fucking dumb that you dont believe that SOCIALIZED health care is socialist so im done argueing you are clearly an ingnoramus with no actual view
SpAnKyHaM1938 2 years ago
Now you have begun to prove that you are, indeed an idiot. Yes SOCIALIZED health care is socialism! duh! But the Obama proposal of National Health Care was NOT socialized health care.
Pleeeeeeese, read a book before trying to defend your beliefs because you just make yourself look bad, sort of like those republicans with Obama!
landsdown44 2 years ago
so the government buying out companies isnt socialist. you are still yet to give me a time where strengthening the central government worked. So until then im done
SpAnKyHaM1938 2 years ago
Our government doesn't control one single private company. The bail outs amount loans. Much of it has been paid back. Those bail outs began in the Bush administration. Obama just put more restraints on them. So, you still haven't got it right. That's already strike 3. You just struck out!
Yes, I did watch the entire thing. CNN had it all but Fox wouldn't do it because the Republicans went down hard.
landsdown44 2 years ago
The statement that the government bought companies implies something that is an outright lie. Of course the tea party idiots are to stupid to know otherwise. By bailing out those companies Obama averted a great depression. Economics Lesson: In a recession money is not availalbe, purchasing stops, manufacturing stop. Gee what will work? Infusing the economy with money to get it jump started again. That's what Obama did, thank God! The Obama administration runs zero companies.

You implied that more German companies fail due to higher tax rates. I doubted this and asked if you had any actual numbers or studies which show that German small companies fail more than US ones.
And... like the woman in the video... you now try to change topics from bankrupies to something else.
BW022 2 years ago 5
The question is fundamentally flawed, the two cases are incomparable and it's relation to the topic of health care is irrelevant, companies fail for a variety of reasons, not just costs associated with the health care system.
Economics is considered the dismal science for a reason, the statistics you are looking for are meaningless.
Wcoltd 2 years ago
You know I personally conducted a survey consisting of 55 doctors and 12 dentists, of those over one-in-four doctors were not accepting new patients regardless of their insurance, and nearly one-in-three dentists were not accepting a new patient regardless of their insurance, the average wait time for doctors who were accepting new patients was 15.7 days the study was conducted in early September. And consisted of doctors in the Virginia Shenandoah region.
Wcoltd 2 years ago
You neglect the fact that Al Fraken didn't look up the statistics that bankruptcies attributable to health care costs are zero, like I said the costs are subsidized so that it makes such a metric exceedingly difficult. There is no answer to your question, and your logic is terribly short-sided.
Wcoltd 2 years ago
And you know for a fact that he didn't look them up? Of course he looked them up. And certainly no one (even you) is doubting him.
If there is no answer to my question, then your implication that public heathcare costs businesses is completely unsupportable. If you can't back up a statement... don't make it.
She said that moving to a European-style healthcare system would increase medical bankruptcies. She didn't state doing so would increase taxes or increase business failures, etc.

1Atomtan 2 years ago 2
There's no freakin' way you're a republican. If you are, you're a piss-poor r.i.n.o. at that. Republicans indeed had power and grew government. This is why they lost. They abandoned conservatism. It most certainly was NOT because of torture (conservatives recognize the need for it in order to obtain valuable info. This was borne out by all the foiled terrorist attacks both overseas and no doubt here). Iraq & Afghanistan didn't attack us, but that's where the terrorists got all their support from
quinnoculated 2 years ago

Not only that, if we needed all the Patriot act, torture and central intelligence Czar to save us from all those terrorist from the middle east. Why are we still allowing them to immigrate here? Why are our borders still not closed? Why do we still aid Saudi Arabia the biggest exporter of terrorist?
1Atomtan 2 years ago
You act like those questions have never been asked. I'd like to know too.
As for Oil and Saudi Arabia, it's the Dems fault we don't drill more domestically. And illegals, trust me, I'm from Texas, and terrorism is only one of the concerns with the border.
mtb416 2 years ago
I looked up truther. I'm not one of those. However..I do have many doubts about the buildings falling. I have seen demolitions that don't get buildings to fall that straight.
Drilling on our own soil. We could drill until the kingdom comes and it wouldn't make much of a difference. Seriously, most of the geological surveys know where the large oil reserves are and America just doesn't have them. Folks want us to believe that, so a few can make money where they can't at the moment.
1Atomtan 2 years ago
Sorry, but you are very misinformed in terms of known and potential North American oil reserves. We have plenty here.
mtb416 2 years ago
Yes...I realize we have oil reserves here, but how long do you think what we have here will sustain our requirements for consuming oil?
1Atomtan 2 years ago
We have enormous reserves in North America, the Canadian tar sands have been found to have around 1.7 trillion barrels of oil, nearly as much as the ME. That does not even take into account off-shore, the U.S. (including Alaska), and other Canadian oil reserves. A recent reserve was found in Mexico as well. Point is, we have more than enough to sustain ourselves, but the Democrats will not allow it. This is not hating on the Democrats, though I am, it is merely a fact they block drilling here
mtb416 2 years ago
So my question (and I could care less if your hating on the Dems since I am not one)
Do believe in drilling at any cost? At whoever or whatever expense? Realizing that a huge group of people with much to gain have a say in what is printed out about oil reserves. I'm about as trusting of big business and I am government. which are pretty much one in the same anyway.
1Atomtan 2 years ago
I'm glad to see you feel that way. In my view, the Federal Government is the biggest, baddest, meanest, and richest corporation out there.
I do not think that our reserves here are falsified. Oil is obviously abundant in the ME, so to think that would be unique makes no sense.
What cost? Billions of less dollars end up in foreign (read: dangerous) hands. It SHOULD lower costs nearly all around, as oil is a component of many products. Logistics are such a pain for oil companies, and add cost
mtb416 2 years ago
correction: "would not" end up in foreign ends.
mtb416 2 years ago
The Democrats have opened up millions of acres to drill in the United States. The US oil companies have leases on acres and acres and they are not drilling. Why? They want to keep the supply low so the price is high. There was an oil spill of the coast of Santa Barbara, CA in the 80's and the beaches for miles are still thrashed. We need to GET OFF oil and start in another clean direction. And if you want nuclear in your state, thats cool, but YOUR state should store the waste!
phillipmarch22 2 years ago
You're right, we should all drive cars that run on nuclear power.
Of course, I am joking around, but there are no alternatives. Can you name any?
Coal is the real "polluter" anyhow, not the cars we drive. Hybrids are no better, as all the batteries they use cause even more environmentally hazards. The battery plant that Toyota used for their hybrids is in Canada, life surrounding the plant has all but ceased to exist. Go look it up.
I like nuclear plants, I think it's the only viable way to go
mtb416 2 years ago
I think we have the technology for "clean" batteries. I also think coal burning plants should eventually shut down. Nuclear? I am all for it! We have come a long ways in that technology and they are safe, BUT if your state has one, your state stores the waste. I really think that is the way to go. The states would then get very involved and as they say in politics, they would have skin in the game!
phillipmarch22 2 years ago
Well in the first place, battery technology is severely lacking in power already, so to make to add the pressure of making them "clean" (which does not exist today) is simple too much to ask, not to mention how are these batteries going to be charged?!
It would be much safer to go national and store all of the nuclear waste in one or two locations. States do not have the funding available to do such a thing, it must be Federal.
Coal represents upwards of 70% of our current energy (cont.)
mtb416 2 years ago
to eliminate coal "eventually" surely is possible, but in no way is it in thte "near" future.
The State of Texas leads the entire world in wind energy productions, but since we do not have proper ways to store high quantities of electricity (battery problem again) it is not profitable as of now.
Think Phillip, we've been paying $5 for 4AA batteries for years and years now, and you thought the Oil Companies were screwing you.
mtb416 2 years ago
Different kind of battery. Kinda like a rechargable battery, but better. High up front cost, but they have a long shelf life. The batteries we use in our toys and cars are a different animal. If they took 100 square miles of the Nevada desert and put up solar panels, it would power America. The problem is the storage of that power. Someone in their garage is probably working on that as we speak!
Agree about the coal. And right on for wind in Texas!
phillipmarch22 2 years ago
Then make the storage of nuclear waste a federal expense and the states store it. I don't think one state should have to take on the waste of another. That would force the technology is get better in the storage process. Like Yucca mountain. Do you think it is fair that Nevada should take California's nuclear waste? I don't! All states would be happy and the Nuke Reg Association would only getting pressure from 1 or 2 states, not all the ones that wanted a nuke plant!
phillipmarch22 2 years ago
I figured you were from Nevada. You must realize that it is too expensive and less environmentally friendly to have so many nuclear waste sites.
As for those who don't want it, what are they going to do? The very reason we are only talking about nuclear power is because it is the only viable alternative as of now.
mtb416 2 years ago
No, I am in California. Environmentally friendly? That is a nice way of saying "toxic". They should perfect the storage issue to the point where you wouldn't mind having the storage site in your backyard. Again, I am all for nuclear power. Clean and efficient. Except for the storage.
phillipmarch22 2 years ago
Yucca Mountain is the perfect example of politics over-riding science. It was more politically important to push for Yucca Mountain. The reason it is not storing waste now is because it is built on an earthquake fault. Millions and millions of dollars spent, and it will never open.
phillipmarch22 2 years ago
Yes because your government is so much more likely to fleece people while privately owned insurance companies will take a philanthropic stance. That makes perfect sense. Really, it does...

I'm not trying to be rude, but you have only offered talking points that I hear over and over again the American Left.
You actually said that healthcare and the economy are mutually-exclusive, proof of your utter lack of depth on this subject.
mtb416 2 years ago
No, look at my post response before, i didn't say healthcare and economy are exclusive, I have previously stated why the economic argument isn't totally relevant. As for talking points, its because the arguments that have been offered don't actually hold much water.
As for the holier attitude, not at all. I just see how well it works here (not perfect) and see how many people suffer due to the fatal flaws of the US healthcare.
beansmacca99 2 years ago
Trust me beans, no matter what surgery it is, we offer it in a better (maybe not cheaper) form than they do in England. We rank poorly in equality of care, and we need to fix that, but we certainly have some of the best facilities and doctors in the world.
Economic impact is perhaps the MOST relevant.
I am quite through arguing with some wanker from England. Cheerio

MaryWaterton 2 years ago
You are a moron, your argument is wrong on so many levels it is astounding. Truly astounding. How many countries have been bankrupted by universal healthcare? You got it, it none, a big fat zero. And, universal healthcare would lead to a reduction in the % of GDP spent on healthcare, (look at WHO rankings), ergo your country would have more money, and better healthcare. How can people not see this?
beansmacca99 2 years ago
It is YOUR argument that is flawed. We've seen what the government has done with the gov. run programs that are ALREADY in place.
Social Security is on the verge of bankruptcy and would have ALREADY been bankrupt had the gov. not allocated more funds. Medicare and Medicaid- same thing. Even the post office is 8 BILLION dollars in debt!
Since the evidence is overwhelming against the gov's ability to run ANY social programs efficiently, it is YOU who is the moron.
jakesdoc 2 years ago
You have just completely ignored my point ad spouted some irrelevant bs. Once again, no country has been bankrupted by universal healthcare, and the reduction in the amount spent on healthcare will leave your country with more money. How can you not understand this, its pretty basic stuff like. See what happens when you don't go off topic, you can make a sensible and relevant point.
beansmacca99 2 years ago
No country has gone bankrupt because of it's LACK of universal health care, either. But we are NOT a socialistic society. We are a capitalistic republic.
If you want to live in a socialistic society- there are plenty of countries to choose from. More power to you.
But our system works well and works BEST when the government stays out of it. That's why America has led the world in invention, innovation, and entrepreneurship since it's inception.
More government is NEVER the answer.
jakesdoc 2 years ago
1st I live in the UK, another capitalistic republic with universal healthcare. You don't need to be socialist. Other examples include canada, france, germany.
As for your system working best, well that is just patently incorrect. Why would your healthcare be rated 37th when you spend the second highest % of your gdp in the world on healthcare. Surprisingly, your behind all the socialist republics I mentioned. Read up on the subject for yourself, don't just believe the speculation.
beansmacca99 2 years ago
I would hardly call the UK a capitalistic republic. More like a Constitutional Monarchy or a Parliamentary Democracy- neither of which compares.
Nevertheless, our system DOES work best WHEN THE GOV STAYS OUT OF IT! I would argue that the ONLY reason our ranking has declined is BECAUSE of government intrusion, not the lack thereof, and continues to decline the more the government gets involved. The worst hospitals in our system are gov. run. Just look at our VA hospitals!
jakesdoc 2 years ago
Yes because your gov run hospitals have lowest funding due to your system. As for government intrusion, its not that at all. Its because you have terrible inequality, because its a private cover based system, which millions cant afford, a problem solved by universal care. As for the UK, its a free market economy, same as US and our parliament holds similar standing to the senate.
beansmacca99 2 years ago
Also, to see the real effects of inequality, look at Lancet oncol 2007 shows significant diff in cancer survival between rich and poor states and also a 16% difference between white and black people
beansmacca99 2 years ago
Sorry, you and I will have to just disagree.
THAT'S the kind of crap we need to do away with- and that's just one of the hundreds of examples I could give.
jakesdoc 2 years ago
Maybe thats true, but if there is something wrong with him, the level of care is dreadful in community. To be fair though, arguing against paying for others care is valid. Don't personally agree with it though
