God Bless Warren Oats a GREAT AMERICAN.... As an actor Oats could hold is own with ANY BODY And I mean anybody....… He makes you believe he is actually the person who playing himself, or that the character is absolutely REAL.
He is one of a few actors in the history of the cinema that can play a southern caricature and have it be believable ....And honest.
music too moody for a Warren Oates bio. Better would be ribald banjo guitar combo in a jig rhythm. Playing lost men???? he played talented guys on their way up, mainly by toughness and cool self control. Can't think of a single "lost man" role he made.
@diddymuck pretty much the entire point of the wild bunch is those men are out of time and out of their time. in bring me the head of alfredo garcia he certainly isn't on the way up. he lies about his life and has a melt down in two lane blacktop. at the end his life story isn't even his any longer. in race with the devil he is at the mercy of satanists.
Just want to let you know I appreciate your kind effort and sharing it with those who aren't quite able to place Depoy, KY in their heads and where my father grew up. He and my Uncle often quoted, "It's been a long road since Depoy". A nod to where they ended up in life as opposed to where and how they grew up.
I totally agree - Thank you for taking the time to honor one of America's nearly forgotten treasures with this strangely mystical celebration of his country and himself. The song chosen is perfect
The artist is credited as Jeff Alexander on the soundtrack for The Brown Bunny. The song originates from an episode of The Twilight Zone. I had always wondered if the actress recorded the song vocals herself or if it was dubbed.
warren was one of the greats. thank you for remembering mr. oates and for this fine tribute. that is a beautiful song. what is it? warren is on tcm right now in the '73 version of tom sawyer. 2 lane blacktop is an american classic. i have never seen warren oates when he was not great. i think peckenpah and hellman understood him the very best. thanks again.
went driving last week on a grey day....journey 69 miles from my hometown to depoy...always loved warren just wanted to visitt that place RIP

Just wanted you to know your father was a first class American institution. He made his mark by being rough edged but utterly charming. Take care.
PS Let's hear a bit about you.
