FYI streetskater, we black ppl still complain b/c there are still important systemic issues to complain about. Yes slavery has ended, but the consequences of it HAS NOT. As far as respect goes, the attitudes and actions of some whites today are those which also do not deserve respect from others but unfortunately we don't point this out like we do with marginalized racial groups. Well, I apologize for the generalization. So, let me clarify and say American media. Subtleties on TV that show true biases are evident...you must agree. In my opinion, this is just another one. I call it out when I see it. Perhaps this is something I have lended myself to due to facing a country that has a tendency to minimize black women especially where the subject of beauty is concerned.

Too true. I am multiracial black woman (mother was biracial). My daughter is half me and half German. I would LOVE for this to be our reality. Perhaps, if we conversate more as we are doing, America will get there. However, what I see oftentimes with women who are of a Mahogany-like complexion; they are hailed for their bodies (reporter says Serena is buff) but, they aren't ideals of beauty.
