  • BO chose THE PAST....McCain chose the new future. Got It!!

  • Michigan is a Democrat state and all those Liberal they have running that place have failed their people with Higher Taxes on their citizens.Higher Taxes for Companies running everyone from their loser state.Bad Schools!!McCain Palin '08 YES SHE CAN!! YES SHE CAN!! YES SHE CAN!! YES SHE CAN!!

  • Stop driving so much! Hang your clothes to dry! (The best way is to hang wet clothes on plastic hangers on a line in shady location) Clothing dries wrinkle free!!! Americans, it is time to SACRIFICE to conserve energy. Learn how to plant & harvest a garden!!! Recycle. We Americans are so stupid about what it takes to energy conservative. No amount of recycling will balance the glut dumped in landfills. It is just so huge. The waste is so great. We need to stop destroying the planet.

  • Sacrifice? Move to North Korea and you can see the meaning of government imposed sacrifice. We'll keep America the land of the free, thank you very much. The people who have lost their jobs due to the old, failed policies of the past that Obama advocates have already "sacrificed" enough.

  • You mean because you can shit on the rest of the world, you will. You could always use your freedom to do good you know. That may seem backwards to you, but it's a christian, & a human, way of looking at things. Equating recycling to North Korea is "Intellectually bankrupt". So what are the old policies that didn't work? Like taxing the wealthy as under Clinton era, & tax cuts for the majority? The Clinton era was highly successful, as it will be with Obama. McCain will ruin the middle class.

  • McCain 2008

  • ad0304s, compare the projected returns from offshore drilling to the current or projected output from OPEC countries. It's worse than 1-1000. We can't sustain our current rate of oil consumption anyway, period.

This is before considering the evnironmental toll of allowing the oil addiction to continue, and our continued dependance on terrorist-sponsoring theocracies that comes with it. Speculators have a vested interest in high oil prices as well, they'll keep squeazing hard as they can.

  • quaithe1, they say there's up to 12 billion barrels of oil in ANWR. America uses 20 million a day. But it sits in the ground. Democrats say no.

We can argue about HOW MUCH increased domestic drilling will lower gas prices, but we all have to agree that increased domestic supply WILL lower them.

  • Even if we accepted their argument that it woudln't lower gas prices (which isn't true, but let's accept it just for the sake of argument), that still doesn't change the fact the ultra-liberal Obama policy causes job losses, prevents jobs from being created, and a loss of the economic activity and tax revenue that would result. And plus, hundreds of billions of dollars leaving our economy to other nations.

  • We could also argue about the color of oranges or the how many moons there are, but guess what? They're orange, there's 1, and oil from Alaska will provide a literal DROP IN THE OCEAN in a world that is running dry.

Demand from industrialising countries is spiralling out of control on top of that, and the market will only raise and raise the price of oil in years to come.

  • People from the fine state of Michigan would be helped a lot more by investment in green energy sources, such as wind. It would be more likely to reduce their cost for energy and create new, local jobs, through the necessary work needed to install the infrastructure to harness and use renewable energy.

  • RosandGuil, you can't run a car on wind.

And if you think that we can build enough wind farms to power 200 million electric cars in America then I would urge you to go to your local reality store and pick some up. :)

  • What about all of the other products we need oil to make? Like asphault on the roads - "renewable energy" has nothing to do with that. Don't think inside a box like Obama wants you to - the picture is bigger than Obama will admit.

  • So is the rnc addressing this to the general public, or are they simply attacking the personalities of their opponents and avoiding discussing the real issues? I suggest the later - hypocrites.

  • That is an intellectually bankrupt reply - makes no sense whatsoever and is in no way a reply to what I said. The issue is pursuing our own resources and opposing the candidates who do not support that policy - hardly anything hypocritical. You're going to have to start telling the truth for a change because your lies are starting to catch up with you.

  • No I'm sayi8ng is the McCain campaign discussing this - it's great that you are, wonderful - but is your candidate doing so? That is my question. And what you have said about Obama is a lie. But there is no point to debating with a person closed to any other ideas - your attempt at sounding intelligent using the phrase 'intellectually bankrupt' and then saying "You're going to have to start telling the truth for a change because your lies are starting to catch up with you" is hypocritical.

  • Because every oil reserve is different, it takes 10 years of examining the site, running tests and taking samples before an engineer knows the correct way to get oil from a site and production can start.

The most productive oil field in the world is the Shaybah. It produces .5 million barrels of oil a day. America consumes 21 million barrels a day. EVEN IF offshore drilling started today and was the MOST PRODUCTIVE in the world, it would only reduce gas prices by 2.5% (IF it was kept in the USA)

  • Offshore drilling will do nothing to helps gas prices or the economy, NOTHING. Unless Michigan has some ties to the guys who construct these oil rigs or the companies who'll benefit, NOTHING. The oil from offshore drilling, which will not come in for years, will not even dent gas prices.

Seriously, I'd go for affordable healthcare and a decent tax cut.

  • Cheaper gas means a greater likelyhood that people will start buying cars (vehicle sales are at an all time low, GM is down 13.9 percent according to FORBES). If more people buy cars, more people will be needed to make those cars thus more jobs created. It is basic logic!

  • If we allow producers to pursue more drilling it WILL help prices immediately, because it sends a message to the markets that production and development will continue.

When our government fights against domestic production in the future it raises prices NOW, because futures markets/speculators anticipate declining supply and drive the price up.

The truth is more complex than the liberal talking points.

  • No, it won't help with prices because it is still traded on a world market and with other fast developing industrial nations like China and India with populations many times larger than our own and growing keep the demand growing for an energy source that sooner or later will run out. Only renewable energy sources can push energy prices down keep this country above others by providing new jobs through inovations. You can only stick so many straws in the ground.

  • Pacificshogun, you're saying that because demand for oil is increasing, then increasing supply won't lower prices.

We can innovate, but that takes time. We need to invest in renewables AND drill more. We actually need a national energy policy. Democrats say no.

  • And he's right. Obama is a dismal candidate to be President.

  • Interesting tactic there. All of a sudden age and experience have nothing to do with being 'ready to lead'. Very experienced democrats are now also 'not ready to lead'. Palin has ruined your campaign slogans.

  • it will be a lot more than cheap oil to save Michigan. I like that the RNC at least has real hope and change for Michigan unlike the socialist Democrats.
