Personally, I think this demonstration loads the elbow unnecessarily. I've been taught to get the power from the hips, much like a hook in boxing. That way you're not telegraphing the move.
nowadays if it is a street fight all holds are barred, because people now use guns and knives. You throw an elbow, they throw a bullet. Muay thai anyone?
the problem is the elbow is pure short range so it is best to lure them in or rush in with an elbow or two, but in a street fight once you use an elbow the fight is no longer fair.
