To all the haters out there, Scott never said ragtime is slow, he said ragtime should not be played fast. Also, this isn't ragtime, this is novelty piano. The tempo zez marked it with is presto which is almost as fast as it gets.

Great! I think the posture comments might indicate that the bench is about 3 or 4 inches too high and you are bending to lower your elbows. It is worth experimenting but keep posting please.

scott joplin did say that he thought ragtime was better if performed slowly, however isn't the artist playing the song the one who should determine that? just because joplin was an excellent composer doesn't mean he should be allowed to determine how anyone else plays their music

scott did not mean slow as to put one to sleep. slow in the early 1900's was faster than most people realize. nothing sucks worst than someone playing a ragtime piece too slow or too fast. this one should be fast however...

Except the only thing is... can you sit straight when you play? xD I noticed that and i think appearance also makes a good show... if ur all hunched up like that, it doesn't look as good :) otherwise... ur playing was soo goood I am 13 and I play this piece, but almost twice as slow >.> and it doesn't sound even close to perfect...

People now call it novelty piano, or novelty rag. This is pretty good playing, but if you want to challenge yourself more, play it at a faster rate and make it still sound as good as it does in this video. This is similiar to ragtime, and I absolutely loathe it when people play maple leaf rag or other joplin compositions at a slow, smooth tempo. Ragtime is supposed to sound choppy and raucous, which is why it was played at brothels and whorehouses way back.

I have to disagree. Joplin specifically stated that his rags ought to not be played fast, and although I also don't like hearing them played too slowly, playing them at extreme speed does them no justice and the clarity and charm of the music is easily lost by people getting too confident.

Very good song, it helps you a lot if you want to impress someone that knows about music because of its quality and to impress someone that doesn´t know, because the velocity of that song makes it sound very hard, keep practicing, very good interpretation.

Good intro jazz number. Keep practicing... Sounds almost perfect..... I noticed only a very few duds. The damndest thing is that when I was 18 I did the same thing in only repeating the B section 3 times instead of 4 times as per the sheet music. Its funny. I guess I have to keep practicing it cuz I played it better at 18 than I do now at 53. But a great song. How about Jelly Roll Morton's PeP? I think you'd love it.. Thanks, Bill.
