  • The holy grail healed Arthur after being shot in the knee with arrow.

  • This scene still gives me the chills...even after all these years.

  • Film legend.

  • this scene deserves better quality image

  • Filmed in Ireland with a majority Irish cast

  • @prunch72 SO WHAT????!!!! A VERY English story!

  • @cowle70 Because Excalibur is famous for its location scenes, particularly the apple blossom and the standing stones. Why are you being so obviously defensive and annoyed? Excalibur may be an English myth but the fable of the 'sword in the stone' is found in Irish mythology also except it relates to the early Iron Age, the ability to cast iron from stone moulds and make steel was the secret and power of the 'sword in the stone'. Had we not Norman Barons in Ireland too?

  • Volund's mystery (to cite a continental variant)? Can you cite your source please, I'd appreciate that greatly.

The sword mystery, or at least one, is the sword as the masculine god's erect penis. His most potent spiritual symbol.

The youthful god affirms his sexual maturity with a strength feat to retrieve his father's sexual potency as his own, or has his sexual maturity confirmed by the receipt of his "penis" from his mother-maiden-hag (lake woman). Virility being kingship.

  • @cowle70

    Arthur was Welsh, not English.

  • @Macabecio Cornish actually. Born at Tintagel.

  • @Macabecio Actually Arthur was English, Camelot was in Wales.

  • @Macabecio Besides which he didnt even exist.

  • @cowle70 Thank you very much :)

  • For those who asked, the name of this song is "O fortuna", in the cantate Carmina Burana by Carl Orff

  • Anyone know where I can find/download the MOVIE version of O Fortuna thats played in this scene? I cant seem to find it literally anywhere except the film lol

  • This made all that I am.

  • I bought the Excalibur HD DVD when it came out and have been enjoying the HD goodness for years.

  • When folks say the word EPIC, this scene always comes to mind...I'm not kidding!

  • I can't imagin how tired those horses must be by all that amor!

  • I just checked Excalibur bluray is coming out March 8, 2011. I am sooooo ordering it.

  • love to see this in bluray. the blossoms and the sheen of the armor would look amazing in HD.

  • gd still gives me chills

  • A king without a sword! A land without a king!

  • one of the greatest sequence in the movies' history. that ride through the flowering trees always fills my heart. this movie is epic. sry for bad english.

  • @winterpuppet i agree

  • short but one of the best monologues ever. Also I remember when this came out -- spent a lot of money seeing it over and over. ALSO correct me if wrong but Excalibur single-handidly brought O Fourtna back into the theaters -- most never measure up to this movies visuals as the the score and cherry blossoms thunder through your mind

  • @liberty1911 I think you are right. I was a kid when I saw this movie, and it was the first time I ever heard O Fortuna. Very powerful scene when the flowers came to life.
