@NtoxicatedForum Mike is a legend -- he's just not "one of the greatest ever" like so many causal fans believe.
Mike brought attention to the sport and revitalized the Heavyweight division in the late 80s in a way that was never seen. Is he even within reaching distance of the Top 5 Heavyweights ever? Not even close...
@ccrosbie33 going strictly off accomplishments yes you cant put tyson anywhere near the best of all time. But ability wise he is up there. I mean can you honestly say mike wouldn't have a chance against ali, louis or foreman? Prime to Prime Mike has a good chance of beating any HW in history.
@cpaignboxing Doesn't ability typically translate into accomplishments? Tyson was the youngest Heavyweight champion ever and unified the title when he was barely old enough to legally enter a bar. That's impressive.
But...he did it against old faded Heavyweights or guys just plain scared of him. A prime Tyson might have given a prime Ali, Louis or Foreman hell early on, but we later learned how he faded late in fights and how a great jab keeps him at bay. He has a hard time beating those 3.
@ccrosbie33 what your not understanding is Post prison tyson is no where near the fighter he was before. The Douglas fight was a fluke and tyson was almost knocked out in a sparring session by a bum. He barely trained and was partying hard. Watch pre prison tyson defense its amazing. Post prison he turned into a guy looking for that one shot. he wasn't using his head movement, combos or training at the same rate as before. Also leaving Ronney fucked him as well.
his technique really declined as soon as cus and jacobs died, don king got his claws into him and he fired kevin rooney. His prime was really 86/87/88. Such a shame.
@cpaignboxing your so right, his technique really declined as soon as cus and jacobs died, don king got his claws into him and he fired kevin rooney. His prime was really 86/87/88. Such a shame.

@cpaignboxing I think you mean Rooney, and I think I agree with most of what you said (except for passing off the Douglas fight as a "fluke" - Buster just showed the blue print of how to beat Mike).
Part of Mike not having a "legendary" career in the end was due to choices he made. He was amazingly skilled in his prime. But the fact is, he didn't. People tend to confuse "what could have been" and what really happened with Tyson. His potential was endless at a time, but he never fulfilled it.
@ccrosbie33 he did unify the belts and dominate the HW division for quite some time. @Bonswally Yes, Tyson's defense was amazing in his prime, but he's stop Big George without "any trouble?" Are you high? The same Big George with a cast-iron chin in both his prime and comebacks? The same Big George who was stopped by Ali when totally exhausted (yes, from Ali's strategy)?
I don't get the rose-colored glasses that same people view Mike Tyson with. He was amazing his prime, but not in the same class as the all-time greats.
tyson was one of the quickest figthers and hit with foreman power, he moved superbly and had a chin himself. Big george was nearly knocked out by ron lyle and ali knocked him out. Kid Dynamite would knock out George Foreman, Young or old. Tyson wasnt a "ring legend" because he had no real carer to speak of after those early years, but that doesnt change his devastating abilities in his prime. Im not even a fanboy, my favourite figter is joe frazier.
@Bonswally absolutely agree...people harp on about Tyson's opposition...but look at how many 1st/2rd round kos he notched up on his way to the title....awesome specimen who no one had a clue how to deal with and I very much doubt that these so-called more skilled fighters (who were nowhere to be seen in 89) would have fared much better against that model Tyson. He is not an all time great because he lacked longevity, but youngest HWC unified it all....young mike coulda beaten anyone on his day
@ccrosbie33 you are the casual observer sir, a true observer realises that prime (86/87/88) Tyson posessed a skill level, speed, power and defense that was truly incredible, and few of boxing's greatest would be able to deal with.

@ramrod20042000 Your talking about it like Corey is some type of fighter. He's a boxer that knows some high people and thats how he got in the ring with Tyson im assuming. Corey did his job? What if he was paid to win? He would've beaten Tyson? Even tho Tyson helped him stay on his feet numerous times here...
@250honda I see you believe the in the Tyson Myth. I take it , that you also believe that. Tyson vs Bruce Seldon was real. And that Bruce Seldon wasn't paid to lay down?
@ramrod20042000 HAHAHAHAHAH dude just because you've convinced yourself of some fucked up fiction doesnt mean its true. Seldon was paid to lay down? You should have your teeth removed with plyers for spreading such bullshit.
Tyson was too fast for Tua in his prime, but the only way he would KO him would be to the body. Tua had a rock chin. He took a vicious beating from Lennox Lewis and lasted all 12 rounds.
I hardly think it was Sanders holding back. He lost 7 professional fights before this, and is practically blind in his left eye. Tyson just didn't want to knock him clean out after 20 seconds and disappoint the crowd.
@AutoLyricCorrector I totally agree! at times he would have to hold sanders up from falling after he would land those big right hands. we're talking about a guy thats almost three Hundred pounds and mike was throwing him around like a sack of potatoes, man he's strong!! i think till this day he still hits harder then any heavy weight out there...
corey was instructed not to fight mike back, not to make him look bad. because he is mikes sparring partner and is paid by who else? mike tyson. afraid he might embarras mike.
@veeseee128 Even though it was an exhibition bout i thought Mike displayed a lot of skill bobbing his head weaving and slipping punches. He was tenacious and at times through out the fight, that cunning ferocity that made him earn his nick name Kid Dynamite showed up every time he would pumble sanders with combinations to the body and head. This is the Mike Tyson that should of showed up to fight Kevin McBride, it would of been over very fast. As far as cory being instructed not to fight back
@boxing238 I would have to disagree David Tua is an awesome puncher no doubt about that but Mike Tyson would box circles around him. He would destroy him on the inside not to mention mike's got a cast iron chin. in his prime he would of gave tua a lot of problems. First of all tua does'nt move his head like mike does the Cus D'amato style would be to much for him. A peak Mike Tyson would overwhelm David tua, too fast too strong! Tua would'nt know what hit him...
@ceasar1216 i would have to agree that a peak tyson beats tua,but you were wrong about a few things, tua very rarley gets hit clean because he DOES have good head movement but not the fast side to side movement like tyson his are suttle movements he goes with the punch or slightly slips it,and his chin is better than tysons i think lewis couldnt hurt or stagger him but ko'd tyson, tua was never once visibly hurt but even young tyson was staggered several times, tucker, bruno, douglas etc
@KIWIAZALWAYS You misconstrued what i said about tua's head movement..i didnt say he didnt have good head movement i said he doesn't move his head like mike does which im probably sure you would agree. The styles are very different what makes mike better in his prime is that he was extremely elusive which made it very difficult for other heavyweights to hit or even counter punch him for that matter and the hand speed was just too much for anybody to deal with...
@KIWIAZALWAYS Although tua does have a good chin i would have to disagree with the notion you stated regarding tua's chin being better then mike's there are certain factors you need to consider...When lewis fought Tyson mike was not in peak condition he was overweight and slow loading up with only one shot at a time looking for the knockout the old tyson would rip combinations to the body and head he would slip and hit he wouldn't walk straight in the way he did when they fought...
@KIWIAZALWAYS Mike stood in front of lewis for eight rounds and took his ass whopping like a man until he was finally dropped. Tua was in much better condition for lewis not many power shots were thrown or landed by either fighter and lewis kept tying tua up it was pretty much a boring fight till the end. I have yet to see tua endure that kind of punishment in the ring and walk away as for any heavyweight with the exception of ali and frazier. So you cant really say tua has a better chin.
@KIWIAZALWAYS Arguably its very difficult to make that distinction. let tua get pounded around the the way mike has in some of his last fights then we will see who is the better man in that sense..
Why would Mike even care for training before fighting such an overweight in a exebition? Allso he just won on TKO over Brian Nielsen a couple of years before this i think, another overweight who only had 1 thing, a good chin but lacked any overwhelming punchingpower or skill. Still talk about a comeback for Brian but i doubt it, should be against Holyfield, both WAY over the hill lol!
Damn, Corey Sanders looks terrible compared to his fight with Golota. He kinda looks like Quinton Jackson here. Gotten really fat and it looks like he's only got one eye.
i feel tyson though being able to hit ,but is incapable of taking the hits at this age.....he was good in his time...but ali, foreman, frazier wel a better class of boxers...which tyson or none othr boxer of this time can be
Mike weighed in at 240? He didn't look any different than he did in the fight against Lewis. I think boxing was trying to hide the fact Tyson was coming in out of shape. His fighting weight was usually around 218-220.
On the positive side, Mke Tyson looks sharper here than in any fight he had post Holyfield. I think a lot of Tyson's downfall was more mental than physical. If his heart was in it, I still think he would be a contender right now.
u no wat....................he couldve kicked the shit out of lennox if he ony trained, lewis had a stainglass chin and mike couldve knockedd him out if he just trained, thats how he fucked up his carreer is by not training god damn man he proably couldve beat the klitshckos if he reallly wanted it all back
feel tyson though being able to hit ,but is incapable of taking the hits at this age.....he was good in his time...but ali, foreman, frazier wel a better class of boxers...which tyson or none othr boxer of this time can be
The thing with Tyson that seems to have been forgotten by a lot of people, Is that he was a skilled boxer. He had great side to side movement, slipping to counter punches, also speed, and knock out power. People seem to remember him mostly at the end of his career, where he no longer had it. And was fighting for money. However I would not go as far and say he was the greatest of all time. Because in my opinion that spot is reserved for one man. The late great Sugar Ray Robinson.
If Tyson would fight klitcshko gay-bros in a title fight, they would be down in the first round. Tyson is 40 years old, but his dinamyte stayed untouched at this time. What kind of power this man has...
at the start the announcer is like, "Hit mike tyson with a straight right down the middle, and see what happens!" haha actually man, that sounds like a very bad idea.
you can see Tyson still got the mind set of a champ, he knows where to hit, I don't think hes trying that hard, If Corey didn't have the head gear on I'm pretty sure Tyson would have knocked him over a few times...hes still got it, just a bit out of shape....=)
anyone else think the moneymen behind this thought if mike looks good maybe one more big payday will happen?? seems funny how cory didnt throw one meaningfull punch, just a thought
It was a show, almost like the WWF. To help make on some money. Maybe Cory didn't trew any serious shot but it was pretty clear from were I was seating that Mike held back, making sure the fight would last 4 rounds.
i dunno if they wer ment to be trying but non wer trying at all, tht corey was scared to hit tyson
but if tyson wanted to, he could have had him out cold in about 20 seconds, they wer obviously holding back alot, tyson gev him some good shots, but then u cud see he wud stop wen he knew the guy ws hurt, tht other guy was scared to hit tyson hard at all
thats stupid i have done mma and boxing and boxing is so much harder for one your constantly moving around jumping getting defense and offense ,punching for 12rounds constantly and MMA you see less action unless you got the knockout artist who does the show...but aside that in mma you dont see constant blows you mostly see two guys wrestling on the ground for 2rounds resting cause they cant get out of a guard you have so much rest in mma and boxers train to go any disntace all energy
Yea I agree to some point but I wouldn't call the submission resting..though yea sometimes if U lock your opponent it could be used as rest, so maybe U're right after all haha
@monkeyfights22 lol mike tyson himself said MMA makes boxing look easy, have you wrestled before? Have you boxed for 5 minute rounds? Wrestling uses every muscle in your body after wrestling for 5 minutes your body is fucked, your punching is fucked because your arms and legs are completely gassed.
"The althelitism of these MMA guys is amazing, the last fight two guys boxed for 3 5 minute rounds. With one minute rests. Thats amazing" - mike tyson.
@monkeyfights22 You clearly don't know nothing about sports let alone MMA fighting and Boxing they are both different fighting sports all together. I suggest you do more of your time analysing MMA and Boxing. You clear don't know anything about what you say you do?

veeseee128 1 year ago
corey was instructed not to fight mike back, not to make him look bad. because he is mikes sparring partner and is paid by who else? mike tyson. afraid he might embarras mike.

He would still smash the fucking granny out of you hahahahahahahahahha
TheDonCon 1 year ago
@veeseee128 Even though it was an exhibition bout i thought Mike displayed a lot of skill bobbing his head weaving and slipping punches. He was tenacious and at times through out the fight, that cunning ferocity that made him earn his nick name Kid Dynamite showed up every time he would pumble sanders with combinations to the body and head. This is the Mike Tyson that should of showed up to fight Kevin McBride, it would of been over very fast. As far as cory being instructed not to fight back

@veeseee128 i dont know where you got your information from but you need to get your facts straight before you make ignorant comments like that.

david tua would destroy mike tyson
boxing238 1 year ago
@boxing238 I would have to disagree David Tua is an awesome puncher no doubt about that but Mike Tyson would box circles around him. He would destroy him on the inside not to mention mike's got a cast iron chin. in his prime he would of gave tua a lot of problems. First of all tua does'nt move his head like mike does the Cus D'amato style would be to much for him. A peak Mike Tyson would overwhelm David tua, too fast too strong! Tua would'nt know what hit him...
ceasar1216 1 year ago
@ceasar1216 i would have to agree that a peak tyson beats tua,but you were wrong about a few things, tua very rarley gets hit clean because he DOES have good head movement but not the fast side to side movement like tyson his are suttle movements he goes with the punch or slightly slips it,and his chin is better than tysons i think lewis couldnt hurt or stagger him but ko'd tyson, tua was never once visibly hurt but even young tyson was staggered several times, tucker, bruno, douglas etc
KIWIAZALWAYS 1 year ago
@KIWIAZALWAYS You misconstrued what i said about tua's head movement..i didnt say he didnt have good head movement i said he doesn't move his head like mike does which im probably sure you would agree. The styles are very different what makes mike better in his prime is that he was extremely elusive which made it very difficult for other heavyweights to hit or even counter punch him for that matter and the hand speed was just too much for anybody to deal with...
ceasar1216 10 months ago
@KIWIAZALWAYS Although tua does have a good chin i would have to disagree with the notion you stated regarding tua's chin being better then mike's there are certain factors you need to consider...When lewis fought Tyson mike was not in peak condition he was overweight and slow loading up with only one shot at a time looking for the knockout the old tyson would rip combinations to the body and head he would slip and hit he wouldn't walk straight in the way he did when they fought...
ceasar1216 10 months ago
@KIWIAZALWAYS Mike stood in front of lewis for eight rounds and took his ass whopping like a man until he was finally dropped. Tua was in much better condition for lewis not many power shots were thrown or landed by either fighter and lewis kept tying tua up it was pretty much a boring fight till the end. I have yet to see tua endure that kind of punishment in the ring and walk away as for any heavyweight with the exception of ali and frazier. So you cant really say tua has a better chin.
ceasar1216 10 months ago
@ceasar1216
Tua didnt leave himself open against lewis. Basically was in survive mode too.
gamebuyer22 9 months ago
@KIWIAZALWAYS Arguably its very difficult to make that distinction. let tua get pounded around the the way mike has in some of his last fights then we will see who is the better man in that sense..
ceasar1216 10 months ago
Why would Mike even care for training before fighting such an overweight in a exebition? Allso he just won on TKO over Brian Nielsen a couple of years before this i think, another overweight who only had 1 thing, a good chin but lacked any overwhelming punchingpower or skill. Still talk about a comeback for Brian but i doubt it, should be against Holyfield, both WAY over the hill lol!

i feel tyson though being able to hit ,but is incapable of taking the hits at this age.....he was good in his time...but ali, foreman, frazier wel a better class of boxers...which tyson or none othr boxer of this time can be
MrDevidevi 1 year ago
Mike weighed in at 240? He didn't look any different than he did in the fight against Lewis. I think boxing was trying to hide the fact Tyson was coming in out of shape. His fighting weight was usually around 218-220.
On the positive side, Mke Tyson looks sharper here than in any fight he had post Holyfield. I think a lot of Tyson's downfall was more mental than physical. If his heart was in it, I still think he would be a contender right now.
PDestrucity 1 year ago
@PDestrucity He was 234 in the Lewis fight, he may have dried out a little before the weigh in.
capablemachine 1 year ago
@capablemachine That may explain why he didn't look much different for the Lewis fight LOL
That's pretty heavy for Tyson, which tells me he wasn't training as much as he should have been going into that fight...

The late great Sugar Ray Robinson.
coolins112 1 year ago
If Tyson would fight klitcshko gay-bros in a title fight, they would be down in the first round. Tyson is 40 years old, but his dinamyte stayed untouched at this time. What kind of power this man has...

you can see Tyson still got the mind set of a champ, he knows where to hit, I don't think hes trying that hard, If Corey didn't have the head gear on I'm pretty sure Tyson would have knocked him over a few times...hes still got it, just a bit out of shape....=)
RonaDash 2 years ago 9
the commentator suck, that scream, did he watch a porn or what?
why did corey wear head protector? he's 31 year old and 6'6 fighting a 40 year old mike
tyson punching power is surely a natural thing, but he's out of shape and doesnt have the stamina and the speed.

It was a show, almost like the WWF. To help make on some money. Maybe Cory didn't trew any serious shot but it was pretty clear from were I was seating that Mike held back, making sure the fight would last 4 rounds.

i dunno if they wer ment to be trying but non wer trying at all, tht corey was scared to hit tyson
but if tyson wanted to, he could have had him out cold in about 20 seconds, they wer obviously holding back alot, tyson gev him some good shots, but then u cud see he wud stop wen he knew the guy ws hurt, tht other guy was scared to hit tyson hard at all
i wud think he was told not to hit tyson hard

The reason why Mike didn't knock him out quickly is because he felt bad for him
TKO2121 2 years ago
thats stupid i have done mma and boxing and boxing is so much harder for one your constantly moving around jumping getting defense and offense ,punching for 12rounds constantly and MMA you see less action unless you got the knockout artist who does the show...but aside that in mma you dont see constant blows you mostly see two guys wrestling on the ground for 2rounds resting cause they cant get out of a guard you have so much rest in mma and boxers train to go any disntace all energy
monkeyfights22 2 years ago 5
Yea I agree to some point but I wouldn't call the submission resting..though yea sometimes if U lock your opponent it could be used as rest, so maybe U're right after all haha
kokohero 2 years ago
@monkeyfights22 lol mike tyson himself said MMA makes boxing look easy, have you wrestled before? Have you boxed for 5 minute rounds? Wrestling uses every muscle in your body after wrestling for 5 minutes your body is fucked, your punching is fucked because your arms and legs are completely gassed.
"The althelitism of these MMA guys is amazing, the last fight two guys boxed for 3 5 minute rounds. With one minute rests. Thats amazing" - mike tyson.
neonblack88 1 year ago
@monkeyfights22 You clearly don't know nothing about sports let alone MMA fighting and Boxing they are both different fighting sports all together. I suggest you do more of your time analysing MMA and Boxing. You clear don't know anything about what you say you do?
