During the first set Hendrix did all his tricks and stuff and walked off stage to the Fillmore's Bill Graham and asked how he did and Bill told him you didn't play! @voodoochile97 I agree as a musician and guitarist, but Jimi was making a statement with this song and the feeling he is obviously trying to put forth is that the Vietnam war was filled with horror and death, and sugar-coating it (to me) takes away from what he was trying to get across. War is hell on earth and Jimi hated it.

The only reason I listen to this song is beacuse it reminds me of my father, he lost his mind over there in Viet Nam. he's told me a lot of his war storys. And I got to say if i've seen the stuff he seen, and did the stuff he had to do, I probably would have lost my mind as well. The war in Iraq is nothing compared to the horors of Viet Nam.

This was from the second set on New Year's Eve. During the first set Hendrix did all his tricks and stuff and walked off stage to the Fillmore's Bill Graham and asked how he did and Bill told him you didn't play! You did all you gadgets but you didn't play. So the next set Hendrix just stood still and played this song. I think he answered Bill Graham during this song.

Why not dedicate the song not just to soldiers, but to all people who suffered from the Vietnam War, which was the whole world? One of the reasons why we have such wars is the constant glorification of the military as a special class in the US. If you join the military for that status, you're on an ego trip. If you worship these people, you're brainwashed. EVERY person in the world does something important. If garbagemen didn't pick up the trash, we'd all be in bed sick, not free.
