@depluv I was also in a production of this in the early eighties and can't remember a lot of the rehearsals and the run of the show. However I do remember this piece and how intense rehearsals and performances of it were for the five of us. Haunting and unfortunately still hits home for too many folks.
I absolutely looooove this show! Black and Blue is probably my favorite song...just beautiful! My mother did this show at the local theatre in my home town. She played Nell Carter's part!
The arrangement both musical and vocal is absolute BRILLIANT!!! The lyrics are subtle yet too deep. Definitely one of my favorite numbers from any musical PERIOD!!!

You know I hate to admit it, but my Mom laughed at this song when we took her to the show because she just had not concept of the premise of the song. It was sad and revealing...what we all don't know about each other.
i love this song like really its so touching and for some reason like the first time i heard it i didnt understand it and i felt like it just touched me and i felt like i could sing along with out even knowing the lyrics weird but any way i love this song its beautiful it truly is deep
