The hardest swinging big band of all-time (Basie) and the most versatile big band of all-time (Ellington). That's certainly not to say that Duke's band didn't swing like hell. Duke made the fucking Nutcracker swing for god sake! :)

I have this CD and I love it...I love that they included the "takes" of this song it gives you a feel of being there live.

The Battle Royal , I have it on a pre recorded tape cassette , A great sound the 2 bands to-gether.

So glad I found this vid. We had the album "Sound off...Softly" and this was one of my favorite tracks (pretty much loved all of side one). Haven't heard it in two decades, though. Thanks for posting it.

My dad and I would listen to this as loud as the car would let us and we would just drive around when I was a kid and play this over and over. Thanks so much for posting this. Not much can compare with this. :)

this is such a coincidence you have the only video on youtube with this song and I saw it yesterday, just when you uploaded (i didn't know until now). this is one of my favorites, too. I was wondering... do you know where there could be scores and charts of this song, I would like to play it with my big band.

I'v looked too, and havnt been too successful... One place i havn't checked is the "Essentially Ellington" collection, they might have it. Good luck
