i have always thought it was james' fault, but who knows... to me is the opposite story, cliff was pure creativity and talent, and the band knew it. he took an important part in the albums, shows, everything. jason was underestimated and suffered the consequences of a sad story. im glad that he left, now he seems to be great and metallica is joining they career as they had return to early years.
@eLLAMUSic5 FLotsam and Jetsam. Debutalbum Doomsday for the deceiver. Great album with excellent musical skills. Jason just played on the first album and left some songs for the second album. He was the main composer. Fuck Lars Ulrich for stealing him and not letting him contribute to the Metallica sound. Same story as Cliff B.
All this talk...one thing that is obvious, Flotsam shook the entire metal world with their first two official releases...Doomsday for the Deceiver and No place for Disgrace!
Why the hell do people care if a bass player is playing with a pick or not? Fuck! That is the dumbest argument I see on most Metallica comments regarding Jason and Cliff. It's up to the bassist and what sound they are looking for.
thank you wiggerkiller:) (and thank u joel samuel for posting this!) hope i can find that DVD here in italy too.. one last thing (i promise)does anyone have the lyrics of "the haunting"? *_*
Flotsam was sick...and still is. if you don't have their releases, then yer missin out. they are unique. looking back, newstead should have stayed with 'em...but hindsight is 20/20...
This song "The Haunting" was never recorded in a studio, unfortunately. I do have it on a rehearsal tape from one of their practices. You should pick up the re-release of 'Doomsday for the Deceiver.' It comes with a bonus DVD of a live gig that has a number of unreleased songs. Also, Mike Gilbert does a killer guitar solo at this show.
yeah but only for easy stuff like one and nothing else matters and hed always have to pick up a pick when one got fast. trust he was nothing special with fingers.
I wasn't aware that I was and I didn't say it either. Jason never proved at least publically that he can fully play with his fingers. Only hinted at in the slow parts on the one video, but that's a video not a demo.
The name of the song is "The Haunting." It was one of a number of great songs that never made it to the first album. This was an incredible show. I'm the guy with white hair to the far left of the stage. I really hope Joel Samuel releases this whole gig on DVD!! C'mon, Joel, it's been long enough!!
I'm not the shit for brains who compares Flotsam to Iron Maiden. They aren't even the same type of music. I cant possibly expect some YouTube moron to comprehend what I am saying.
because The bass dominate the Instruments, in metallica the band don't let the bass of jason sound so loud because of James's Jealousy, i'm a crazy Fan of metallica, shame for james to do that,
you're got to be kiddin..the metallica bass has always sounded great, exept AJFA-the original take- witch has nothing to do with jealousy :)) come on be serios, if you want I can explain to you why the bass isn't audible on the 1988 but this is not the time and place...
I bet you never saw your dad! lol xD it's newsted...I know it as a die hard metallica freak...just look at his hair, his facial expressions, his pose and his VOCALS!! Jason started to cut his hair around his head 'cause he had a fuckin afro looking haircut back in those days! :P
Here on joelsamuelpresents is the complete four song this was just one iso camera. Spread the word- rate my video's and enjoy the show. Also I doubt if you could ever get the album to sound like this it was recorded live and we were just luck, because we had Nino Nataro doing the sound awesome stuff huh?

It was recorded on broadcast 3/4 live switch using a remote truck with two channels of audio and directed by Stan Rosenfeld and using a remote control boom so it isn't a home video contrary to popular opinion. We used Ikagami 730 a camera's just to keep it open and yes it was shot in 1985
I recommended F&J debut on METAL BLADE recs. DOOMSDAY FOR THE DECEIVER is pure thrash. The 21mins epic song is written by Jason Newkid! and ERIC AK vocals kills!

With practice and commitment you'll be able to.

"Go play your bass with a pick."
Why would I do that?, I can "actually" play the bass.

Good job. I don't know why you're defending the ones who play the bass with a pick.

I wasn't aware that I was and I didn't say it either. Jason never proved at least publically that he can fully play with his fingers. Only hinted at in the slow parts on the one video, but that's a video not a demo.

So basically, you are describing yourself.
Irony has no limits.
Now, seriously little boy, run along. You have not the mental capacity to even be in this conversation.
Flotsam isn't Iron Maiden. That was your first mistake. It isn't opinion, its obvious fact.

You may not have liked Eric's voice... but you always knew you were listening to a Flotsam song.
There is a lot to be said for that considering the era of music of all the generic, cookie cutter, pretty boy singers of that day.
Kind of like all the EMO bands today. They ALL sound the same.
