@mgdth502 saying you're interested in Kung Fu is like saying you're interested in a car. Which one? Based on the comment of it being flashy it's prob animal styles, maybe hungar or wushu. I practiced wing chun for 2 years. I thought it was awesome. From the choices you gave I'd probably go with hapkido if the Kung Fu wasn't wing chun.
@NahaShuriTomari I believe the art was originally known as "te" which means "hand" and Japan added/changed things and called "Karate" which stands for "Empty Hand." (if I remember correctly)
I'm going to begin taking a martial art and cannot decide between Hapkido, Ninjitsu, Kung Fu, or Shorin-Ryu... I'm not 100% sure of all the differences, but I have noticed that Karate and Kung Fu seem a lot more "showy" and flashy, almost more meant to be just a sport. Ninjitsu seems very natural and flowing and Hapkido does also, that I like. Any input?
@mgdth502 I've practiced Matsubyashi Shorin-Ryu. Nothing showy about hands up.relaxed natural stance. front kicks like horse. punches like smaller horse. when shit hits the fan. Showy karate is cute. A Senseis Tokaido looks = old battle flag, and his black belt is white. If you wear out your gi whistling dixie than at least you can always do that in a pinch. Be the star of your own show Practicing hard and diligently. A gorgeous 39 yo teacher mother of two scares the shit out of me in her gi.
@mgdth502 I don't know much about hapkido or ninjitsu. Authentic ninjitsu is bujinkan and other x kans. Onto kung fu and karate. Karate is kung fu and kung fu is karate. Shorin ryu was used by okinawan king's bodyguards. It is a life protection art and its main purpose is to survive. Shorin ryu is kung fu because originally it is shaolin(shorin) chuan fa that was brought over to okinawa. if you research the history of okinawan arts they're chinese in origin. karate used to be called china hand
Excellent breakdown of the escape in Pinan Sandan. Though it's basic kata, it would take a large degree of body control to pull that off. But I really love it at the end when he says "I'm old," that was funny. Much respect, OSU!
