Man, there was no better 'D' in the NFL back then. None. The Eagles like to think they were, but they weren't. If Carl Smith's offense wasn't so conservative and would have opened it up a little bit, those late 80's teams could have been special. They had decent talent on offense too, but they knew that defense and the kicking game with Morten Andersen was so good that they literally only tried to score 10-13 pts and they'd win. Hence the ultra conservative game plan.

jfliguy-you know nothing about football. look up swilling's stats, when he went to Detriot. they dropped completely. Meanwhile R. Jackson went to another pro bowl, and was a perennial pro bowler before Mills, Swilling, or Johnson arrived to the saints. Oh yeah, the guy who took Swilling's spot w/ the saints went to the pro bowl playing along side of R. Jackson, b/c R. Jackson continued to get double teams playing on the strong side, as opposed Swillling receiving one on one match ups.
