In the early days before clocks and calendars, the menorah was used to show everyone what day of the week it was.
This practice apparently began in Egypt by the Hyksos (the Hebrews), as Egypt used both a ten day calendar and the seven day calendar.
This same seven day calendar was likely brought with Moses out of Egypt and is how every nation in the world received the 7 day week.
