As a beginning tennis player in his late 30's, these videos are awesome. I have learned so much watching your videos. keep posting them - they're super helpful.
hi will, i was wondering on changing my 2 handed backhand grip to one handed backhand grip. Is it okay if I change it? Will it damage my arm or something like it?
and I really dont know the one handed backhand grip that federer use. i want to hit flawlessly like him =), and im sure everybody wants it too.
maybe u know what grip and technique that Federer is using?
All of your videos are great! I was just wondering, are you naturally lefty? Cuz I play lefty too but I've learned to play righty for coaching. (especially so the young ones aren't confused when I demonstrate, just curious)

Virtually no backswing which i don't necessarily agree with. But this could be because you're barely hitting the balls to show viewers what to do. Overall good explanation of the 1h backhand
I totally left a comment like 3 minutes after i left this one saying "wow....definitely didn't see the other videos, and that you address the backswing issue in the next video. sorry :) " not sure why it didn't publish my comment....
are you suppose to change your grip when you hit a back hand? do people adjust the way they hold their racquet during game play depending on which side they plan to hit the ball?
For high bouncing backhands make sure your chest is pointed in a direction parallel to the net. Watch Federer when he gets a high one. He's perfected it. This will help you out on your topspin so you can aim a little higher over the net and have more margin for error.
hey will I have a problem with my 1bh. For some reason I can't swing straight forward, I swing off to the side for some reason. I'm using an eastern backhand. any idea how I can get myself to swing forward?
Hi Shawn, thanks. You can get tennis elbow from overplaying but it's not a guarantee. If you feel like you're getting it you should stop and rest for a day or so.
You're right. I really want to learn the 1 handed backhand. But right now I still use 2 handed. My coach said that I should learn 2 handed first before I study the 1 handed. Was it really neccessary to learn 2 handed backhand first before 1 handed? :-)
It's much easier as i doesn't require as long a preparation, I believe the overwhelming majority follows that route. I did myself. 1H takes longer to learn so you don't want to be stuck with a crappy backhand and a nice forehand whilst playing.
i prefer one hand backhand but my teachers tells me to use both. i still use one

You might want to add that your string bed should face your target as long as possible before you finish up high...

Hi Will.
Please can you post the two-handed backhand progression onto youtube, I cannot play them directly from the FYB site.
I think your videos are the best BTW, excellent for showing kids.

I'm having problems with handling high bounced balls on my backhand side, how do i return it?
darksalad23 2 years ago
Smash that tennis ball lol, just kidding
you return by, timing it, this is what i;d do
wait for the ball to reach low then hit the ball or smash it if i can , hope that helps lol
TennisPho 2 years ago
here is a tip
get behind the ball and before the second bonce push through it not to hard just enough 2 return it ok
thats how i do it and it works out good
