  • @imicusdown you are awesome xD

  • This is such a great movie, I need to rewatch this

  • Watched this movie today and I really like it! This was a great movie :) it's quite sad that we don't see this kind of movie nowadays. Someone please bring us back our good movies!

  • @ SvensonC YEAH, WE DO!!!!!!! Did you know that Ed Harris nearly died while filming this movie? The scene when he swam to the "Moon Pool" he really did swim across, N when he came up for air, they'd forgotten to fill the room w/ Oxygen! he had to hold his breath til they rushed him a tank! The cast said if they'd known that the shoot would be so difficult, they NEVER would have agreed to be in it...

  • I really like the music on the trailer! It just gives you an otherworldly feeling!

" We all see what we wanna see. Coffee looks and he sees hate and fear. You have to look with better eyes than that.'' Thatis one of the dopest things i've ever heard!

  • so this is the idea wihch Michael Bay and Jerry Bruckheimer used for Armagedonn... not to talk about Gale Anne Hurd the producer of both films

  • PRESS 8 OH SHIT!!!!!

  • LOL EVERYTIME I SEE THIS VIDEO I ALWAYS DREAM OF LIVING IN THE WATER LISTENING IT WILL RAIN BY BRUNO MARS

  • ZOMG IT'S THE BOSS OF THE WATER TEMPLE!!!!!

  • wow, what a suprising movie this was. for some reason i was waiting for a "alien" under water, didnt know much about the plot, and thats exactily how i like it.

the last part of the movie was just beautiful, to put it in one word. very inspiring

  • I wish this movie could be in 3d and would love for it to be on at the cinema I would most definatley pay to watch this again on the big screen even though iv seen it so many times on DVD

  • this movie created hollywood

  • Mr. cameron we do need avatar 2+3 and no boring underwater movies!!! avatar ist the future. dont look back!

  • @asozialamt noob

  • @Lesny14 it's from Michael Stearns soundtrack to the movie Chronos.

  • what's the song that starts from around 1:30??

  • @Lesny14 It's from the hit IMAX docu/musical , "Chronos" final scene.

  • @Scoonertuna Awesome. the entire movie is actually available on youtube and the entire score by Michael Stearns sounds amazing. Thanks, I appreciate it!

  • @Lesny14 No problem.

  • This movie practically lived in my VCR.

  • It's interesting that they didn't use any of Alan Silvestri's music for the trailer. His music for this film sounds remarkably "not 1980's". The same cannot be said for the music on this trailer.

  • Wow, this is just the trailer and it made my hairs stand on end...WOW.

Only heard of this film today, I MUST see it.

  • @BeautyHealthZoneBlog amazing to hear that youre in for a treat , excellent movie

  • An awesome trailer for an awesome movie!

The music makes the hairs on the back of my neck stand up to!

  • what year was this?

  • @ZacEffron

Pretty dam good film for that time

  • It's my pleasure I'm glad to help. I love all instrumental film music from the abyss, the lovely bones, franklyn, the crow. Hope you enjoy it :)

  • My pleasure I'm glad to help :)

  • To midnights hour. Not sure how to do a link but type in : songs of distant earth : and it's part 1 let me know how you get on :)

  • @Scoobydoomichael thanks very much, i founf it now and have downloaded the song. i didnt realise it was by mike oldfield, hes a great artist. again thanks very much for your help here

  • Mr. Cameron. We do not need Avatar 2+3. We need a Blu-Ray of The Abyss!

One of the best SciFi movies ever!

  • @SvensonC Oh please enough with the Avatar crap comments now. They're getting annoying and boring now.

"this your best movie cameron not blue aliens' "Avatar sucks"

Enough with this Avatar shit already is getting old.

  • @Deadshot089 i agree avatar does suck, i fell asleep for 5 whole mins during the film

  • God, I'd forgotten what the original trailer to this sounded like, with the temp score on it. Brings back a lot of memories from 1989. Had waited for this movie for a year or more, and finally saw it the first week it opened in the UK - took a trip to London to see it at the Odeon Leicester Square, before it opened countrywide the week after.

  • Cryptozoology horror novel see video book trailer

  • Songs of distance. Earth part 1 is the song. There are seven parts to it but part 1 is the one from the trailer. It's available on you tube :)

  • @Scoobydoomichael i cant find the song anywhere, could you send me a link please? thanks

  • whats the music to this trailer called ?

  • is this on the uk itunes store?

  • 1989 was such a great year for movies back to the future 2 Indiana Jones an the last crusade, batman, whats weird is that three movies almost identical in plot and setting were deep star six, leviathan and abyss wow that's just insane to me!

  • The trailer tells you how much of a challenge it was to make the movie?

Seems...odd. Almost like a cop-out. "If it sucks or if it's hard for you to watch, you can't imagine how hard it was to MAKE this thing! C'mon, give us a break!"

  • everyone forgets about The Abyss, let alone it being a james cameron movie, i know he has a lot more popularsci fi movies , but i have freakin loved this movie since it came out!

  • I just saw this film, Wow and Phenomenal are the only words that are swerving through my mind !!! Classic Sci-Fi.

  • One of the best trailer ever made!!!

  • @aqualcunopiacecinema I disagree. Like I said in a different comment, you can't just come out and say this movie is "one of the most challenging motion pictures ever made". When you put that in the trailer (especially the beginning) you can't really suspend the audience's disbelief. You've already told me that it's a film, no you have to try and make me care about the characters. The 1st little exchange sounds like a idiotic romantic comedy "God I hate that bitch" made me think this was re-cut.

  • Best film ever

  • looks like the hydra(half life2 beta)

  • severly underrated

  • much better than Avatar!

  • Inspired by lecture in high school. Thank God James Cameron attended school that day.

  • chris griffin around 1.40

  • they should make a video game on this movie!

  • I have a different trailer to this. Also an early one. Stay tuned... i'm going to put it up in a few days..

  • I remember watching this at the cinema and it was totally mesmerising and still to this day is one of my favourite films of all time. I always believe that even though films are for watching, films like this make you apart of it and if you become part of the film it makes it that little bit more special.

  • The only James Cameron-directed movie I haven't seen. I haven't seen Piranha II yet but I don't really count it considering Cameron only directed for a few days (he got fired, lol). This is how I'd rank his movies (so far):

    1 The Terminator 10/10

    2 Titanic 10/10

    3 True Lies 10/10

    4 Aliens 9/10

    5 Terminator 2: Judgement Day 9/10

    6 Avatar 9/10

Seriously, this guy doesn't make a bad movie, lol.

  • @face2faceish1 I agree with you. Cameron doesn't make bad movies because he takes his time when he makes them. He waits a few years and then makes another film.

  • I don't think I'm alone by saying that The Abyss is Harris and Mastrantonio's finest hour. I mean, you just feel the power of their performances in this one, quick trailer.

  • is this...Morphling?

  • awesome James Cameron movie

  • I am proud to call this my favourite movie of all time. It has always been.

  • greatly underrated, truly astonishing, although i'd like to see the alien elements more, but sitll hell of a movie

  • I randomly stumbled up on this film a few years ago, it is amazing. I couldn't understand, why I´d never heard of it before.

  • This and Avatar are awsome

  • Best scene: When he gets he saves his hand thanks to his ring...

  • ..Cameron is a genius.. before Titanic... there was The Abyss

  • this is how a sci fi picture should be.

    absolute absorbing you in it

THIS FILM IS SURELY A WORK OF ART

  • Lol i have seen this but i dont remember when and i remember just some parts of the movie but im not gonna see it again but it is a good movie that i still remember.

  • hola , esta pelicula censuraron donde sale una ola gigante aca en chile , donde muestra como los seres humanos somos tan malos

  • Does anyone know what that incredible music is at 1:46 and continues on I love this song this was a great film and this is my favorite all time trailer simply because the music and the way it built up the movie

  • @WerewolfReaper James Cameron was unhappy with the studio trailers, so he made this himself (if you want something done right you gotta do it yourself eh? lol)

anyway, he borrowed the soundtrack from a 1985 IMAX film called Chronos. You can torrent it, or possibly find it here on youtube, its towards the end of Chronos that you hear the cues he used.

hope you enjoy, I did the same thing 2 years ago when I first saw this trailer!

  • What a wonderful movie. It's was so brilliantly done, and had such a beautiful meaning behind it. Made me want to cry it was so beautiful. And even though it was very sci-fi it was really believable.

  • awesome movie man they just cant replicate an art like this

  • Just watched director's cut yesterday, and got to say; this is amazing movie! Got to watch theatrical version sometime and see how much it differs from director's cut. Can't wait for that!

  • @feedthefire

Director's cut is definitely a more satisfying movie. By contrast, the theatrical release of Aliens is actually better than director's cut IMO, but in The Abyss the missing 30 mins made a big difference, and the original 140 mins cut of The Abyss doesn't quite work as a movie imo.

  • @TheRatOnLeLaux

If that's the case, then you're really lucky. I thought it was OK - neither the best movie I've ever seen, but also not bad.

  • I'm not exactly a big fan of Cameron (I liked some things about Avatar and Aliens though) but this looks quite fantastic!!!

  • @MythicDude It is, watch it with an open mind, and you should enjoy...

  • The Abyss likely did poorly at the box office because it was one of the last underwater movies of 1989. The other underwater movies in '89 were absolute shit (Deepstar Six and Leviathan) which probably discouraged moviegoers from seeing The Abyss. In addition to that, the turbulent production probably caused an aura of skepticism when the film came out. The Abyss is a great movie that just didn't get enough attention.

  • Rented this film a coulpe of days ago and watched it. I've never seen a film that has been shot almost completely underwater. Gotta give James Cameron some credit. He is one of the greatest filmmakers the world has ever seen. A true pioneer and visionary within the world of moving pictures.

  • @Schwanabwana Avatar sucked and he's a hack for makin that movie. Sure visually it was cool, but other than that it was nothing original.

  • @Schwanabwana If you watch the "behind the scenes" instalmet to The Abyss DVD, then you'll see that half the scenes underwater are really just camera FX and tricks.

  • @Schwanabwana

     i like it.

  • @tommy407 dude your a wanka

  • AVATAR sucks

  • @URiiNE the box office didnt think so

  • @singlet1991 in other words, millions of dollars lost on a terrible movie.

  • @URiiNE millions spent, billions earnt. very simple

  • @URiiNE I WANT TO URINATE ON YOU TILL YOU DROWN TO DEATH. :)

  • funny

  • james cameron is fking theif he stole the storyline of dances with the wolves pochahontas and the last samurai and made the biggest shit ever made avatar bullshit faggot cameron

  • @xIDemonHeroIx

    Idiot.

  • @TheBoomViper cocksucker

  • @xIDemonHeroIx

HAHA you fail, troll. But thanks for making me laugh!

  • @TheBoomViper thnx faggot ;)

  • @xIDemonHeroIx

    stick around wiggerfaggot

  • @xIDemonHeroIx dude stfu james cameron was and still is one of the best film makers of all time if you want to speek your own opinion about him then dont do it on the internet you are going to get spamed and trolled you fucking idiotic pice of shit

  • This was better than Avatar.

  • hell of a flick.

  • If anyone hasn't seen this movie yet, maybe hold off for another year or so (or less). It's overdue for a major remaster (every home video edition looks currently looks like shit) and along with TRUE LIES is the next in line from Cameron for a good new transfer to Blu-Ray. Great underrated movie and be sure to catch the long director's cut, it's one of the major achievements of Cameron's career.

  • Avatar was a ripe off of ferngully crossed with Dances with Wolves. I fell asleep for 45 minutes through Avatar and didn't miss anything in the story line.

  • @kateyes1189: Yep, I agree. Predictable. Avatar had the same storyline as Dances with Wolves and the Last Samurai.

  • @all028

Yeah, you saw AMP suits and blue aliens in DWW and TLS...

  • @TheBoomViper: LOL! You don't see the similarities in the storylines or you probably never saw the Last Samurai or Dances with wolves.

I almost SHIT my pants when I read your comment to all028

  • @pdynamics1

There are certain similarities, does that make it a bad film? Star Wars had plenty of similarities namely from a show called "Flash Gordon" in the 1960s.

And we all know how hugely successful Star Wars became, don't we?

  • @TheBoomViper

Have you read Dune or watched the movies especially the Lynch fiasco from 1984? Star Wars and Avatar owe themselves to that awesome Sci-fi novel.

  • @Johnlindsey289

I haven't read it, but I might one day. Cheers, from NitrogenOxygen. :)

  • @TheBoomViper

Seen the Dune movies even by david lynch? and do you think Matrix is live action anime including Ghost in the Shell?

  • @Johnlindsey289

Lynch's Dune is a mess, but I think it's an interesting one. Choppy, inconsistent and weird, and with loads of narrative missing. Yet I love the set designs, the costumes, the feel and the soundtrack. I find it oddly watchable.

  • @KaitainCPS

At least David Lynch went back to his comfort zone known as independent films with Blue Velvet and back to his comfort zone instead of trying to do hollywood blockbusters since it's not his thing

  • @all028

Have you ever seen the Dune movies or read the Dune books? THAT is what Avatar is! and you should watch Princess Mononoke and Nausicaa of the Valley of the Winds which are excellent Japanese animated movies that inspired Avatar.

I bet you thought The Matrix was original, sorry but it's basically like Blade Runner and anime like Ghost in The Shell in live-action with Keanu Reeves.

  • @kateyes1189

    You're an idiot.

  • The best film of cameron!

    Avatar sucks.

  • Fucking epic

  • Es una gran pelicula....dicen que la historia siempre se repite, pero nunca aprendemos sus lecciones......tal vez todo lo que buscamos es la gran sorpresa de encontrarnos con nosotrso mismos......y todo queda silenciado.......tal vez.....

  • this was the first movie I had to watch again the next day, i was about ten.

  • I always wanted to see this movie now I have to buy it :D

  • FUCK YES I FINALLY FOUND THIS MOVIE!!!!!!!!!

i saw it as a kid and now about 12 years later i found it!!

and come to think of it james cameron is a bad ass in making movies! :D

  • Peter Jackson kicks spielberg ass in film making but Jame cameron owns both of their asses in movie making!

  • It went straight for the warhead, and they think it's CUTE.

  • Aliens is Cameron's best film though

  • @gurrlo I think it is Terminator 2. But for me Aliens comes second.

  • i loved terminator 1 and 2 and i'm sure i'll like the abyss

  • never seen the movie but im readin the book and def gonna watch it when im done

  • So I'm watchin Aliens, & I started lookin at other films, I wanted to kno exactly wat this movie is about.....it looks intersting jus by the trailer, but I want a more further lookin into it b4 I watch it

  • this is the best movie i have ever seen avatar was good to but it was too long this one has a great time and a great story the actors were so good and it was such good quality for 1989 best movie ever

  • Great fucking movie...Drowning urself to breathe in unimaginable depths, fucking genius..

  • What a film making genius. Not that classiest film maker though.

  • goddamn this movie sucks. i love all of cameron's films and by far this is he's worst and only bad 1. i was falling asleep after 50 something minutes into the movie. then i just gave up, very disappointed, what a piece of shit film.

  • @cieloknight Let me guess, you liked Leviathan though, right?

  • @kdixon7783c well its better than that piece of shit the abyss that's for sure. we all cant strike gold all the time. hey cameron fucked up on this 1, but the rest of he's movies are insanely good.

  • @cieloknight Well, I'm not going to chastise you about your taste in movies but, I can't understand why someone would make such a comment on a movie if you didn't like it. Nobody asked you to click on this. One more thing, If you thought Leviathan was so good than you should see The Thing by John Carpenter, It's a way better monster movie. I have over one thousand dvds and I love movies. Peace

  • @cieloknight

The rest? I would say "True Lies" was crap as well.

  • @EuphrasieF your right i forgot about that piece of shit.

  • @cieloknight

    RETARD

  • compared to avatar this movie actually has a story

  • definitely a fantastic film, I recommend it, maybe even better than avaatr,I just wacht it,And I love it

  • o_O

  • this was a better movie than avatar. this movie in my mind is one of the best and cameron's best. i thought it was gonna win a shit ton of oscars and it DIDNT WTF?

  • I don't recognize the sound effect in the final seconds of this clip..... it wasn't in the movie.

  • @anditslikethat because its a TRAILER, dumbass

  • @jpourkav .......Wow, aren't you the smart one?

  • was this movie any good?

  • @Tanner2971 fricken amazing one of the best movies ever made :D

  • i remember watching this movie as a kid about 10 years ago, it was really amazing and i watched it again about 5 years ago....Very nice movie. i enjoyed it more than avatar i must say.

  • the moral in this movie is stronger than the one in Avatar, i feel...

  • forget the short theater-version ...watch the extended director's cut-edition! cheers

  • @1bottlejackdaniels Bluray or dvd

  • @kareszt bluray

  • in this movie i've seen some traces of stanley kubrick's 2001. it might be inferred that the outer space of kubrick is the ocean of cameron. it started out like routine lifestyle under the sea thatan ordinary viewer could look as pretty boring then BAAM you are sucked into the film. it's a really great one, you should watch this.

  • Terminator: 9/10

    Aliens: 9 or 9.5/10

    Terminator 2: 9/10

    True Lies: 8.5/10

    Titanic: 8/10

Avatar: 9.5/10 (Fuck the haters. I loved it.)

The Abyss is the only movie of his I haven't seen... considering that so many people love it, I should probably get right to it. :P

  • @Corneliustheamoeba Yes you should. I saw it on TV while surfin' years ago and thought, damn this is good.

  • AVATAR 2 WILL BE UNDERWATER :)

  • LOL

I thought It was a suspense alien thriller

  • its about aliens..

  • All I remember is a pink fluid that you can breathe and aliens or something in a building at the bottom of the sea. Anyone want to fill me in on the rest?
