  • i'm german and i hate it if someone stare at me :) germans are terrifying xD

  • Also with the french fries (we call it pommes frittes in gemrany (comes from the french and means fried potatoes (i think))), we largely eat them with our hands as well, depending on where you eat. Going to a fast food store or something, i'd normally would use my fingers (some prefer those plastic forks), in a restaurant, esp in one of higher class, i guess eating with fingers is weird, yeah ;)

  • It's funny because our dinner is rarely longer than 30 minutes ;D. Also i've never noticed excessive staring, honestly i think it is uncomfortable if someone does that with me :). Maybe they're just that fascinated with you^^. I must say, if someone asked me on the street if i speak english, i'd say "a little bit" ^^. Guess that's gemran modesty then?

  • 4h dinner? I take 5 min !!!

    (cheeseburgers 4tw)

  • Luv ur beer stein... booosomy.... hahaha ;P

  • It's really interessting to watch this video! :) How you describe "our" traditions.

Most of this is really true and I didn't even noticed that...:DD

  • uuh Yes we germans are all monsters..

  • I'm not eating an hour dinner. Just a half and that's normal ! :)

  • She said people in Germany Stare at you for a long period of time to take things in.. I'm from Comton, that's a sign of aggression. Dont let me run up on you and take your bread away.. And give me some of that tea while it's warm..Nigga! I'm hungry... lmao..

  • Besides Christmas meal I very seldom have meals that take as long as she says...my frinds are alsways late as am I and my family...I seldom was stared at (maybe she lives in a tiny place, that would explain a thing or two). Actually I have never recived french fries, when the menu stated potatos. So it´s more the other way round! And we do use our fingers, if we´re nor just dining at the fancy restaurant. No offence, just sayin´

And sorry for spelling mistakes, I just speak a little english ;)

  • LOL it`s so funny to hear this as a German. We are staring ;-) Perhaps people stare at you, because you're a nice person, but usually i don't feel like getting stared at. Hope you enjoyed your stay!

  • my dinner is always 10 mins max....even on holidays, i guess its my military upbringing

  • @ClanOfSteel

A low class austrian, leading all germany & germans & u fools followed him like sheep. maaaa maaaa the arian race. Man ur granpa, pa & u, must feel proud being german :)

  • @despameratos you followed an alcoholic from texas without any brain and now yóu are following a nigger so fuck you

  • "sprecken sie english?"

  • LOL GUEDN MORGEN

  • @ClanOfSteel LOL german is an angry language!!! deine sprache ist bose baby!!

  • Hey! I am German and I don't stare at anyone! XD

  • Do you speak German?

  • Hi, do you have a facebook? I have a few questions I would love to discuss w/ you... I am trying to find a way to relocate there for a year to teach English.. By the way..LOVE LOVE the vid Thank you for posting

  • deutsche Sprache schwere Sprache

  • We dont say "Jews" for "Goodbye" ;)

  • @despameratos exactly!!

  • more or less correct, but dont expect that everything is everytime this straight. youre welcome to eat your french fries with your fingers if you want :)

one thing by the way is very correct: dont arrive late. dont.

  • Mongoloids

  • Germany is sooooooooooo fukin borin!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Lol just lol(from a german/polish-man)

  • From the sign in the beginning of your video I take that you lived in the county of Bitburg-Prüm, in a region called Eifel. Now that is (in German dimensions speaking) considered as kind of an "Outback" -region, with very rural structures, small villages and strange behavior (even for a number of Germans). Some of your observations hold some merit, but in most bigger cities people are far more open-minded and less constricted by etiquette. Culture shock in Bavaria might even be bigger. ;-)

  • I live in Germany.People do stare, but ONLY if you make yourself stand out. I cringed at the pronunciation. I've lived here 2 years and have never heard anyone greet someone with L-O. Hallo, yes. L.O. Never. The only french fry fork I've ever been given is a tiny one. Never a knife. I see Germans eating fries with their fingers all the time. I've never been asked if I want "fry sauce" only Ketchup or Mayo.

  • bad ....bad...nah just bad...

  • They probably stared at you because your make-up looks terrible.

  • Comment removed

  • I grew up in California and been living here for 11 years

  • When you mentioned the staring part, it reminded me something of my trip in Germany... It was with my school (Only a few guys who are very good at speaking English went. We were 15 :p) and 1 time, we were travelling in the train and we got the 1st class cabin without knowing it... And we were just talking loud and you know we are teens and every single person was staring at us! like for 10 minutes! Until we noticed that there is written "Erste Klasse" next to us! lol it was funny!

  • I'm American and lived in Germany many years ago and had a wonderful time. It is a different culture and you have to adapt but I loved Germany.

  • The staring is actually not really "staring" but observing:

If you talk to someone and do not look at them while talking to them, it is considered extremely rude, because you signal that the other person is not worth your full attention. Even if your relation to said person is as close as mother/child, if you don't make the effort of looking at the person you talk to, you will in most situations offend them. There are a few exceptions though, like when you can not look (i.e. whilst driving).

  • Ohhh.. dear ! you are so true...

  • I am German and I lived in the US too....I understand what she is saying, it's mostly accurate considering the customs in the US.

  • ohh come on nobody stares at you!!

  • Dein Deutsch ist SCHEISSE! HAHAH

  • Im jewish and i can say that germany is a lot better than the USA.

  • @bananito6 good for you when were you last in USA == ? i thought so

    , that said

nody forced you to come here , now did they

  • @poosaypirate always, I move in and out US , unlike you I have a special citizenship since my kind own that country...

    XD

  • @bananito6 FIRST OF ALL LIES AND BULLSHIT And secondly you know what about me? nothing

  • @bananito6 in an out, ur like a DILDO!!!

  • @bananito6 USA WILL NOT AID YOU FREAKS FOR EVER EITHER

  • @bananito6 yeah must be pretty cool being a jew in Germany. If someone insults you he goes to jail lol

  • @Bubbelbuz

dont call me jew, fucking redneck.

  • @bananito6 i agree the USA sucks balls...not only is there so much more racism and ignorance than they like to admit, but economically is a living hell...

  • @sUjU91 im pretty sure that there was a time in german history where they were also racist, but you decided to put those people in ovens, but what do i know, im an american

  • @sUjU91

actually one of the reasons im saying this is because the US is flooded with fucking niggers that destroys any civilization.

Whites in the US are very stupid unlike jewish and german people in Europe.

so, I guess you are one of those stupid whites, or should i say "ching chong"

  • @bananito6 shut nigga

  • You landed in a very strange part of Germany. Please don't take this as a representative of the whole Germany, or even worst Europe.

  • Ich bin stolz eine Deutsche zu sein . Scheiß auf unsere Vergangenheit !

Ein Deutscher ist sogar NBA Champion !

  • @tamii131 NBA???

  • @tamii131

    Dirk Nowitzki heißt der....

  • I dont get why u are complaining about being on a date or a meeting right on time ?! This is so normal ! Germans are eating ( most of ) only when all people are there and ready to eat ! So its kinda understandable if they dont like it if they have to wait for that 1 person who comes 20 minutes too late until the food is getting cold !

    2. thing : Germans do eat their fries aswell with their fingers but not at a restaurant ! Like u have a meeting with ur boss. You eat with ur fingers aswell ??

  • its fun how germans and people from other countries have completely different views about the culture :)

And if you go eat in a "normal" Restaurant, you can totally eat fries with your fingers, its only "rude" if you do it in a really expensive "high class" restaurant ;)

  • @NSQ00

The only restaurants in Germany you may eat fries with your fingers are american brands.

  • @jackab222 fuck you, germany is way better than america, and this is coming from an american citizen you fugly bitch, dont make me donkey punch your mom, you have to be kidding me about canada, canada sucks nuts and im guessing your mom is a yankee and your old crusty dad is a red firecrotch canadian queer

  • @BORATITSNIIICE u mad?

  • @BORATITSNIIICE MUCH BETTER than America! I am from Israel BTW.

  • @BORATITSNIIICE Wow o.O Thanks for defending my country, but...wow...

  • @BORATITSNIIICE how is germany better than america apart from politics

  • They might be staring at you because you're very beautiful

  • @kitsune2222 Unlikely

  • ka aber die is heiss

  • Guden Naben? Guden Dag? wtf?

  • HAU REIN

  • Greeting for any daytime: "moin". Good bye: "hauste"

  • @patheticDrop wat bringstn den fürn scheiss bei ??? ,hauste,

  • @patheticDrop

    hahahahahaaaaa

  • seriously she is not right at all. people will not stare at you....if you may be dressed fancy they will but thats normal everywhere (except crazy countrys)

second sure you can eat fries with your fingers, i mean come on?

and third i want to see the dinner that goes on for 3 hours. if then 1 our eating and the rest of the time they hang out at the table instead of maybe american way on the sofa

  • die erzählt scheisse lol

  • I never saw somebody staring at me here in Bonn, even if I catch somebodies eye on me, they would look away pretending they did not look at me at all.

I would say it is me who usually stares at people, but that is my probably nasty habit stemming from curiosity and I cannot help it :)

  • Stationed at Bitburg? I love that area. I was stationed years ago at Hahn AB (Now a commercial airport) But I had the time of my life. If you have time, you should visit the Mosel river during the Summer or Winefest season. People are very friendly there. I wish I was there.

  • you are slaughtering this....but you go girl :) I know you had a blast so thats all that matters

    Guten Tag!!!!!

  • Guten Tag is translated into Good Day

    I'm German..just saying

  • Guten Nabend^^

  • do i need utensils to eat an apple?

  • No offence but your pronunciation is really bad e.g 'Guten Morgen' and you come across incredibly uninformed. Piece of advice: just because you don't pronounce 't' in your particular English dialect, don't assume everyone else around the world does the same. Learn phonetic properly.

  • @mytubetravel

    Her "guten morgen" is good.

  • Na so versteht dich ja keiner, was issen das für ne Aussprache? Das is voll süss.

    Nice pronounciation. lol

  • i dont think you should say "here in europe" because things can be very very different in other european countries

  • no offense but your pronunciations suck haha

  • Sorry but your german is pretty bad :-/

  • @lele26895

Most of our youths german is even worse :)

  • There are different "hellos" in different regions , here up north at the coast we say "Moin" or "Moin , Moin"(at any time of day) , f. e. down south(Bavaria) they say "Grüß Gott" . As far as for the goodbye "Tschüss" ,......this term was coined in northern Germany during the Napoleonic occupation from the 1790's 'til 1813 ,........ origined in the French "adieu" , ....first it was "atschüss" , nowadys it's shortened and used all over the country .

  • xD

    Your german sounds funny^^

But my english sounds funny too :D

  • They stare at you, because you are landed on the absolute countryside of Germany.

The region you are living is called the " Eifel ". Only comparabel with " Idaho " in the U.S.

Farmerboys in the " Eifel " never saw California girls with such a mass of make-up in her faces, like you got. Maybe they believe you are a clown and expecting you to make some funny things in a few seconds... like saying " Allo! " to them.

  • IF is was white i would move to germany in a heartbeat, i love their culture!!! but hey what can you do :p

  • @supraguy2jzgte

You can also move here if you're black or asian or whatever. Just try to avoid East Germany. Come to Erlangen the best city in Germany. :D

  • @supraguy2jzgte

Come to Hamburg , due to it's harbor our second largest city has ever been Germany's gate to the world , it's multicultural , ..... hardly any problems with those Nazi dumpasses like in some of the rural eastern parts of the country , ....also a lot of people speak English .

  • @moodytraxxx

I only know , that some places in the East are no-go areas for foreign people , no matter about any population or acts of violence statistics !

I'm a genuine north German , I'm married to a West African girl for 29 years now and we have a daughter of 28(I hate using color terms to describe people) , so I can tell about racism in Germany at first hand !

And I'd surely second to it , ........in Hamburg it's not as bad like in other places .

  • @moodytraxxx

  • @supraguy2jzgte Are you trying to say that we are nazis or what? :(

There is absolutely no problem for you to move to germany i guess

  • I can not understand why so many revile here. Every country has good and bad people. There is no "best" or "worst" country. Everywhere there are people who do good, and people do the nasty. So why are you arguing? Dispute is the precursor of war, and I am for peace! For all of the world. I hate those prejudices. Why can not all live together? I can not understand it. It makes me sad.

  • "...they can actually hold a perfectly, normal conversation in English."

Shhh! Please do not juts give away our secrets!

  • where are you from? *-)

  • Regarding using your utensils when eating - that's for proper restaurants. If you're in some fast-food joint like McDo or some ordinary snack bar, you can use your fingers if you wish. ;)

  • Your pronouciation needs some work ...

  • @jackab222 then stop crying like a little baby and leave this country.

  • @jackab222 Ôo Than you're at the woring place. The germans a really nice and friendly people. ^^

  • @RandyFTWify Thats not true, the goverment just talking about forbid the npd and we have an agency that control those parties

  • @RandyFTWify

    sry? whats wrong with you?

  • sounds very funny

  • Its Hallo not Allo. We are not France. Regional variations can be: O!, Hoi!, Servus!, Sers!, Säas!, Sklave!, Tach!, Grüß dich!, Grüßgott etc.

And that with "Sklave" which means slave is really said in one area, it is the literal translation of the latin servus which is often used as a greeting in Bavaria and Palatinate.

    Greetings from Kusel, RP!

  • @Aniihya

  • allou, spreken zi inglish ? Nice :-)))

  • ..also when to arrive for an appointment, depends on who you meet and what's said on the phone. Usually arriving about 10 minutes early to 10 minutes late is commonly okay, except for business meetings where you're expected to be punctual. In any case it's regarded good manners to call and say you'll be late when it's 15 minutes or more. But I guess by now you'll have disvovered all this. Anyway, I hope you like or liked your stay here in Germany.

  • Nice to get an american view on our customs here in Germany. However, some things are not taken as seriously as it sounds. Having dinner for 5 hours is rather exceptional, one to two hours is more or less normal among friends. When meeting relatives and grandparents, it might occasionally last longer. Whether you eat fries with fingers or a fork depends on where you are. You don't use your fingers in a posh restaurant, when eating with pedantic persons or business partners, but that's all.

  • wow you are very attentive =)

    greetings from germany

  • i really want to move to germany but i really dont know how to actully do it

  • @TheTravisPenn

If you have some qualifications there is no Problem to get a good payed job here...:)

Just get some information. There are also some institutes helping you to integrate yourself into germany.(like language courses...)

  • @derdufteduft thanks for the info well like can you give me a list of the institutes or doest it matter what state your in?

  • @TheTravisPenn

There should be some in every bigger city I think..just google it i bet you find it

  • @derdufteduft thank you for the information im one step closer to moving =)

  • @TheTravisPenn

Hope you'll like it here :D

  • @derdufteduft yeah ive seen a little bit when i was in the army and went to and from iraq, omg Leipzig was beautiful

  • nice vodeos im going to germany in a few days .....any thoughts or suggestions, thanx

  • @hotadeelguns11 cool which city ?

  • @TheSituation59 ill be landing in amsterdamand i have a two hour drive around to the border of germany.

  • @hotadeelguns11 ah ok haha i live in germany and wanna live in the us ;) haha so we changed places

  • @TheSituation59 sure lol, i've lived in nyc for over 15 years, and its about time i change my enviroment.the us is in bad shape.no jobs and the ecomany is low.i euro is way better than the dollar well it always was,lol..

  • BTW the staring thing is not quit right bc 1) not everyone in Germany is starring 2) I for myself think it is unpolite not to look at a persons face while having a nice conversation. If you look everywhere else it seems like one is not listening or doesn't care about what is said.. ;)

  • The only problem I see with this is that u never speak out the H hehe ke estas normal por una latina :) where are u from?

  • Staring at each other in a Conversation, looking into the Eyes or Face of the Conversation-Partner, is the german way to say : "i am paying you attention, i am listening to you". It is very common and polite in Germany ^^ Some kind of a german quirk. Dont take this to serious, this is just the way, the germans are :-)

  • What inspired you to live in Germany? Honestly, I'm planning to move their soon. Not only to go out and see the world, but to increase my German. How well is your German?

  • T not D ...

  • Lorena: What a nice video. How refreshing. An American who is honestly trying to learn about customs in foreign countries. Keep it up, kiddo. It's great.

    positiv:

    - nothing like german engineering

  • This is a great video, well explained and true.

  • @shaynachen22 you are german

  • @shaynachen22 bahhha i was just thinking to myself the same thing lol i live in germany so i hear it every day lol this is no good

Hi, I'm from Germany and I think that german people wont be arrogant, so they say rather "A little bit" than "Yes" when somebody ask they if they can speak english.

Sorry my English is not so good.

    Greetings

  • halts maul da unten !!!

  • i actually always eat my flys with my fingers just in a restaurant with a fork..:D sry for my bad english..great video btw :)

    greetings from germany

  • /watch?v=UDw4N8mwg1o

  • @shaynachen22 oh dude you know nothing abut german you are the typical ignorat american the whole world hates but she is cool

  • @NoizeBoiz yeah..i know it was stupid of my to say that stuff and like i said on a different comment, i don't know why i posted that..i just think it was a really bad day for me..normally i'm a super nice person. hmm. but you are right..i'm american and hate america actually..it sucks

  • don´t listen to these idiots here that say your german is bad. I think it´s great and you are doing a good job in explaining what one should or shouldn´t do here in germany. Do we really stare at people? I suppose we don´t notice this due to the fact that we do it all the time. Next time I´m in a large group I´m going to check this our.

  • I don't understand that thing about the french fries. When you're sitting in a german McDonald's or Burger King or some other snack bar you can, of course, use your fingers to eat. In fact, everybody does it that way. Only when sitting in a "normal" restaurant (with waiters), you will use your fork. I think that this is absolutely the same in the USA, or do you eat with your fingers in a restaurant??

  • @shaynachen22 Every german says: Guten Nabend not Guten Abend :DD

  • forgot to say:pls use ur utensils but not for hamburgers that looks stupid.

  • @shaynachen22 what the f*ck are u talking? shes doing a quite good job and n'abend is a short form so she made no mistake(n'abend=guten abend=good evening)

  • Please go home soldier lady. You are welcome as a civilian but not as bloody murderous slave of the evil empire.

  • you did a great job with the video! very helpful for people that come to live in Germany!!! ;) esp. the restaurant and table manners section!!! ;)

  • @shaynachen22 i say "nabend" =) so like in the usa we here in germany have Slang too. Some say - nabend or guten abend or gutn abend or or or .. some german just dont use the " vokale" ea e i o and u =) ur german reall yisnt that great.. but for ur defence, its really really hard to speak good german as an english speaking person. english words are pronounced in a whole other way. so dont worry bout it =)

  • You are Beautiful and thank you for this lesson I have to learn German & Japanese and I think you are the best! I learned a LOT with you. Thank You!

  • Thank you very much for this video. It is very interesting for Germans like me to see how you see Germany and what is interesting (and strange) for you.

  • good video, but you dont have to do everything she says.. im german, born here, and i eat my fries at the restaurant with my hands too, like many other germans. and i hate this stare thing too.. didnt know that people in other countrys dont do this oO its because german kids are told when they are very young "look at me when you are speaking, its rude" -_- its so stupid.. i dont do this too! and being late is cool too <3 fuck the society! be an individual and not just a follower!

  • 4:00 - its not that we like it, customer service is just far to slow ... (0_o)

    THX4th@

  • @shaynachen22

im german....and it depends on where you live in germany...in the north we say "nabend" its like th
