I read all these comments and laugh and I am saddened at the same time that even now we have learned nothing from this terrible historic tragedy. Its world history so its all of our history and we should enforce not to keep fighting one another and putting race against race. Slavery has existed through out the ages in all cultures it is us that continue to make it a race issue. We cannot change the past but we can change the future. Live for the future not the past. @Rockstafeller Yep I'm aware of that, in fact slaves were taken all the way from Senegal, to Angola on the coast,and those taken from the hinterland were from as far as Tchad to Central African Republic...Congo etc. I just got a bit miffed by MUURCHOTI trying to educate those of us that know who we are and who our people are,and who fabricate our origins based on a book they read! The story of Newton has always been known to us way before the film, because our song has been immortalised.

I have seen this film...it is SHOCKING and terribly accurate in portraying a part of the slave trade that SOME refuse to believe.

The film maker shows how John Newton came to write the hymnal AMAZING GRACE and if you ever read INFIDEL a history-biography about John Newton you will see that there were many in-comprehensible aspects to life in west Africa at the time that WE WILL REFUSE to believe...ie "love"

What I love about this film it is how it mirrors accounts by John Newton and others concerning the TASTrade...yes in most part it was tragic but there were whites who from the earliest stages of it questioned their religion and duty to country as they studied and got to know Africans.

As a jazz musician I'd say, if slavery didn't happen, we would still be listening to Mozart, Beethoven, and Bach and the likes right now.

You can watch it on youtube, but it's rather boring. No hooks or plot point to drive the story. The narration is monotonous. It would have made a great documentary with reenactments. However, as a British/ Nollywood production, it's not too bad. However, it's still watchable by most standards. I didn't finish it though. I fell asleep, and I didn't feel inclined to keep watching once awake.

There used to be some african jews in Ethiopia, I think. They got airlifted out to israel in the 60s or 70s.

However, I don't think they were ever involved in the slave trade. European jews were - it was a big money business, so naturally bankers (many of whom were jews) got involved.

Fortunately, slavery is on its way out - but it's still hanging on, in places like Haiti.

Let me just give an example. I grew up in Kenya, Africa, for most of my life. The conflict during elections last year was heartbreaking, especially since I was so far away. There was tribal conflict going on, but this didn't just happen. It's been under the surface for a long time. Now, the people will not heal easily from this conflict, because both sides were hurt in unforgettable ways. The only thing they can do is forgive.

I wanted to say something to all of this, especially to white people (I am one too). Just wanted to say, that because I am a Christian, I believe in what God says in His word. He says that sin will affect people to the third and fourth generation. Thus, we, as white people, should not be surprised that we are still feeling the effects of the slave trade. It is a guilt we will carry that was passed on, which can only be solved through forgiveness and understanding.

I am curious that the selling of Africans by their own rulers is a subject rarely adressed.

Don't yell at me but it was not completely whites who did this. They hold the majority of the blame, but not all. You skipped a step in your analysis. In one of my classes, we had to analyze the Triangular trade. Warring clans at the time would kidnap people from the opposing clan and either adopt them into their culture, enslave, or sell them to islamic traders(I forget what the group was called) who would sell them to the dutch, who sold them to england, who sold them to the americas.

I am glad to see there will be the other side of the story told. "Amazing Grace" the movie that came out made it seem as though black people had merely supported the bold and couragous white people who freed them. TRUTH IS while there were some very wonderful white people who fought for justice at great cost, black people died and suffered for YEARS to secure there freedom. And as usual, even though treated badly, looked after many white former masters even after slavery!
