How would you go about training a dobie for this type of work? I'm a smallish woman and my fiance and I are planning on moving downtown. I like to go on walks, but i feel very nervous since i look vulnerable to bad ppl bc of my size. I would love a dog that is somewhat intimidating and can protect me if the need arises, but also a joy to have around the house. Does this breed fit that description?
@playinntraffic We think Dobes are perfect for the job, you need to work with a profesional trainer to learn this so the dog and people involved don't get hurt.
Yea when I get my first place I want a doberman that I can keep my home safe!! My first place maybe in the city which case, a good protection dobe would be a good investment!! I think cops should have dobes instead of shepherds! I've heard of ppl gettin away from shepherds by climbing over things but a dobe can run incredibly fast and jump amazingly high. I think a lot less ppl could get away from a dobe. Which is part of the reason their my first choice in a protection canine.
Badass dog.. Is nice to know that ur dog has ur back no matter what.. What does it take to train ur dog like this?? Plz give me info.. eestrada0313@gmail.com thx
up to 2500 or more depending on the training you want done, and thats just for getting YOUR dog trained! I am not sure how much it would cost to buy a trained dog
@Ryan4321 Dont buy a trained dog, after 2 weeks he wil not be the same dog as u baught u have to train him uself! trust me on this one, the dog wil just get 2 relasionships 1 with the trainer and 1 with you, so get ur lazy ass out and train a dog :)
Ineresting fact that if you have a trained GS and throw a ball over a cliff and tell it to fetch the dog will go after it but if you have a trained Doberman and do the same the Doberman will not. They have that bit more intelligence than the GS and even tho trained to comply they still keep their common sense lol.
same with pits they DO WHAT THEY WANT but are patient to theyre handlers...i hav seen some pits get yelled at for being persistant then turning on thier owners ....not for an inexperienced trainer...not at all they can be lethal in the wrong hands an most of the time they are...i wish ppl wud see this.
love pits...probly the second most demanding dogs in the world...but ya training is essential...but dog let the dog forget your thier friend aswell as thier master
Id rather have a dog that has the common sense to not take any uneaded risks and therefore lives longer as my companion. Btw Im not slating GSD's they are amazing dogs :-)
where are you getting your info from?? the fact that dobies are junk nerve bags anymore makes them useless when it comes to working..a dog diveing off a cliff to get a ball is not stupid if you ask the dog...he will only tell you how much he loves his ball...if you ask the one who doesnt, he would probably tell you to go get it.
I get my info from working with 'protection dogs' and am really sorry but I think youve misunderstood me... I was actually saying how intelligent Dobs are... I love GSD just the same but there IS a difference in how they both think. "Junk bags?" Thats a name youve come up with and I strongly dis-associate myself with your statment... Please think before you try and put words in people's mouths. All the best fellow dog lover :-)
In your 'working dog world' maybe. All the best with your familiar "nerve-bags" and I still dont know what the hell your point is from my original comment. If it is to pointlessly argue then youve picked the wrong one :-)
i was asking a question how where your info came from and at the same time makeing a statement about the dobermann breed. im a GSD guy myself but can also say the same thing about GSD's as i can about dobermanns. just the only difference is, there are a lot more well bred GSD's around the world then there are dobies.
I got my info from a big training company. They're both v.intelligent breeds but there is a slight difference in how they both react in certain situations. Ive never said anything bout dogs being stupid.. Both are great breeds.
Ha ha take that evil money stealer attacking man! Great work. Everyone is always really surprised that I do Schutzhund with my dog. 'But he's so nice!' they say. Um...yeah that's the point. Dobes are the best.
congratulations I hope that holds true. I love having an extra set of eyes and ears watching my back so I can relax a little bit about being blindsided.
Okay, so there's this add for a 1.5 year old Doberman in the newspaper (for sale). I haven't called them or anything, I'm just trying to do the research first. What are the temperament tests that I can do to evaluate the dog?
do not buy that dog, i breed doberman and you will not have a successful relationship with this dog. if the owner wants to sell it then there must be a serious problem.and if he/she cannot deal with it(and they have mostlikely have had it since birth) then you most certainly will not. if you are interested in purchasing a doberman buy one from about 2 weeks to 3 months old
That is not always true, but one must think if a dog is for sale there is always a reason, sometimes the reason is just that is how they make money training and selling dogs, but sometimes there is a problem.
Can you tell me if you can train a doberman to attack anyone that comes in the house at night or if you are not home. And other than that wait for a word or if you say attack?.
Dogs dont know english. If you train them to attack by using the word 'attack', they will. My gf has a pit and she uses 'go get'em'. If an Asian man told you to sit in Japanese and you didnt know what it meant, it be them same as telling a dog to sit if he doesnt know what "sit" means.
i have 2 dobes, they are naturally protective. just imagine a 90 pound teacup chihuahua. they are VERY clingy with their owners, therefore are very protective. excellent guardians.
my doberman does this natrually linkinfan12, most of them do at least the ones I have owned always have been great guard dogs, they were breed for it, more training just helps them perfect it and know they are good at it.
awesome strong dog, excellent concentration on verbal commands on attack n recall, tremendous training skills, cheers to his trainers, keep up the good work
Thank you for the compliments we are very proud of him! We hope your dog can turn out like this as well! Work hard and be consistent, and work with great training helpers.

not a big fan of pits.
But you are right by saying that it is really all in the training.
Ppl should never get a working breed (Doberman) unless the are willing to spend 100% on training.
