  • A lot of people died to preserve freedom, only fools argue which country has superior military forces.

  • R.I.P. George A.

  • The real-life protagonist in this song, "George A" , passed away Oct. 24, 2011.

  • I was looking for a 'head in the sand' video to make a political point on facebook and came upon this video... which could make the point well today on the lead and bleed of greed that fabricates fear to keep feeding wealth into the industrial military complex which 'has' taken over the US. We no longer are citizens with Constitutional Rights. The news today 10/15/11 is saying China is digging tunnels under the earth to hide nuclear military ambitions so we can't cut our huge military budget.

  • listen i use to think the us had the best army but then i learned that it doesnt matter size of you armie or you technologie or your train it falls on how well your men can handle it and how mentaly fit they are and how much honor bravery how much there willing to give and how far there willing to go and how much spirit and drive they have to win

  • The Canadians have an army? Never could have guessed

  • @SavageSquaw Tell that to the hundreds of Canadians that died in Afghanistan. We fought and bled with the Americans accomplishing whatever the fuck we're supposed to accomplish over there. Just cause there's less of us doesn't mean we can't blow away insurgents in a more efficient manner and be polite about it.

  • @SavageSquaw We Dutch know that with the liberation of our country back in '44-'45 a lot of Canadians were involved. Actually when thinking of the liberation, we specifically think of the canadians as our liberators alongside the British and the Americans. That Canada's only got twice as many inhabitants as the Netherlands makes that fact even more stunning. So I guess making jokes about that isn't really appropriate.

  • Brilliant song.

I'm Canadian and I am eternally grateful for all what the U.S has done.

I wish the Canadian army would pull it together. Sure it may not be economically viable but I assume the Russians will be planning to attack the Canadian north for the land that surfaces once the ice melts for oil reserves.

  • I love how this song really stands for a point: Our celebrities who act in war movies get more credit than the real troops fighting the real war. It's so true.

  • Amazing video this song connects me with my great grandfather more than anything and the footage brings another dimension to it. Thanks for the upload.

  • For all you civilians that like to talk about shit that you dont know about, you have the right to say what you want but we have the right to punch you in the mouth if we fucking disagree.

  • The main reason I am not only alive today but also a proud American is becuase of the soldiers that have fought and died in the War of Independence, The Civil War, The War of 1812, WWI, WWII, Korean, Vietnam, both Iraq Wars, The Afghanistan War, The War on Terror...etc. etc.... let us never forget the fallen soldiers who have died for the good of Man nor the causes that have brought us to those conflicts.

  • It's easy to see that Atlantis has the most powerful army. ..

  • fuk all ur wars

  • @tony1238

Maybe U shud find Urself another planet - Fucker

  • They called them the greatest generation. A title earned and deserved. I wished that all americans could have learned more from them.

  • i'm unamerican but i like the song, i love this song.

and the songs about glorification of war in the media (well that is what i think).

  • i'm unamerican but i like the song, i love this song.

  • 16 people are unamerican and obviously don't get the point in the song.

  • @jessicamarie011 amen they need to do some resreach and see how bad ww2 was

  • u have got to be kidding me...the video is very informative.

  • american fascist propaganda

  • @christos110 You obviously didn't listen to the words. You sound like you are barely toilet trained though so I suppose it is a step up to parrot some anarchist crap you saw on the internet.

  • @christos110 Listen to the lyrics you tool! You could not be more wrong!!!!

  • not to burst peoples bubbles but some of this footage and tarawa. good song

  • My father was a Marine & was in the second wave in the South Pacific in WWII. My father, the man who raised me, was not a man of war. I only learned of his service after he passed last October. The man of peace was who I knew & loved. Beautiful song & tribute. Thanks for the post.

  • anybody that doesnt like this song suck big fat n***** d***

  • DBT is the shit, man.

  • And I thought about that movie, asked if it was that way

He just shook his head and smiled at me in such a loving way

As he thought about some friends he will never see again

He said "I never saw John Wayne on the sands of Iwo Jima

The way he sings this just makes you want to cry. Perfect song.

  • Good song exactly right on. Stallone was never in Vietnam. Clint Eastwood never set foot in Grenada. But they made money off of the people who did.

  • Shannon Hoon anyone? Great song, amazing band.

  • These lyrics are so brilliant, there so patriotic, back when americans actually loved this country, some of us still do ! I have no shame, our country has never been perfect, but believe this, we come closer than anyobody else.

  • One of the things that kinda gets my attention is how he talks about the private reunions the vets go to and the life long bonds made as they sit around and watch their youngest offspring and talk of those hundreds through the years that won't be able to attend.

I've personally seen this with alot vietnam (growing up) and even a few Iraq #1 vets (ex special forces civilian contract workers for the Navy/USMC)

Though it's not my world I know they still met every year

  • This is what country music should be like, not this pop-country abomination that garth brooks started in the late 80's

Though really alot of the country music was bad even decades waaaaaay before garth brooks.

LOVE the USS Enterprise (or yorktown) footage, that boat and her sister (yorktown) are the most important steel and iron the US has every constructed. Since we outsource that kinda thing now it'll probabley stay that way

  • the song is great. the video is cold.

  • this is touching..beautiful song.

  • @Bluesnatic What if some one is going to kill your family. I think you would reconsider your view then.

  • my great grandpa was in this movie

  • how the fuck do you people always make things that have nothing to do with politics or war into that

this is a good song so stop arguing and enjoy the music. Besides we all know America is the best.

    AMERICA!!!!!!!!!!

  • I've lived in 4 countries and traveled to many more, and I've noticed that most people feel that their own country is the best. Arguing about which country is best is like arguing which state or city is best: ultimately is comes down to loyalty to place and personal taste.

  • Why does every country argue about which army is beter each has its pros and cons so unless were fighting each other quit arguing

  • @XxFalconatorxX nah my army is better then yours! lol :P

  • extremely lame......even for a kraut hun! SIEG HEIL and fuck off!!

  • hey logo...typical comment from a Nazi. You should go back to playing dungeons and dragons and whacking off to tomb raider dude...are you ashamed to be german everytime you see holocaust footage? or see an image of hitler? or think about how you got your asses handed to you in two world wars? shut your socialist fucking mouth up. Well, Gemany- beat once, beat forever.

  • very gruesome... war is the devil's feast. hope that is the last world war.

  • Still Lost Only 60,000 Soldiers.

  • Cause you did what you've always done best. Let others fight the real war while you sit on your asses sending in bombers and weapons after wich you monkeys claim all the credit even if your puppet (you) was totaly defeated like in Vietnam.

  • Alright Then, You Go Out And Fight All You Want Yourself.

Just Don't Call For America's Help When You're In Trouble.

  • Nobody called for your help and attack Iraq...

  • I'm Not Talking About Iraq, What I'm Talking About Is That Americans Helped People More So Than Any Country Would Or Could.

America Helped My Country Of Vietnam And Pulled Me Out When I Could Have Been Killed By The N.V.A Or V.Cs.

Many Countries And People Forget To Realize That America Helped Drive A Lot Of People's Problems Away.

I Am Proud To Be An American, For America Helped And Developed Many Countries Under Their Wing.

And I Plan To Serve In The Corps Once I Am Done With College.

  • The only truth is that America only helps when it suits their own agenda and they can benefit from it. Spare me the propaganda and start reading on the subject of war profiteering.

  • I'm Aware Of The Fact That America Only Help To Those They Can Benefit From, But If America Have Helped Me Or You In Anyway, Wouldn't You Return The Favor? Because That's Exactly What I'm Doing.

  • @diramonsky What is with you ass holes any way??? But then a lot of really good Men died for your right to spew this filth out of your stupid mouth... God Bless The Marines, God Bless America, but then you probably hate America also. Just like a Military hater....

  • @CharlesT2010

Give you thanks to the Canadians, The Russians, The British, The Chinese, The French, The Polish, The Australians and the many nations that helped put an end of Axis Controlled places, not just the United States. And just so you know... the Americans could have joined sooner, and a lot more people would have been spared.

  • @2SixGraders Very very hypocritical, it was a European war, so we weren't going to send American boys to go die for a European problem, no one realized what Hitler was going to do with his war crimes. In fact on the surface what he was doing was very normal Europeans have swapped territory through war for years... your logic is flawed you must have wanted to go into vietnam, iraq, korea, or any conflict because by your logic we could have "spared" lives.

  • @2SixGraders We also could have sat the whole thing out??? Dont take this the wrong way but with all those nations you mentioned, many from them died in them. They died deffending them, Brits died in their own skies, French and Russians in their own fields! I am taking nothing away from that, but our boys died in those countries as well. Our blood is on French beaches, in British skies and waters, All of our boys who died did so on someone elses soil. I hope that makes sense to you.

  • @2SixGraders And we could have joined later there will always be people who bitch about countries taking to long to enter a war and there are many who say they should not go to war at all.

  • @Rockillblood When You Capitalize Every Word, It Detracts From Your Argument By Making You Look Unintelligent.

  • @deathbywombat Point Noted, But I Prefer To Type As Is.

  • man, this song is very cool

  • So You Are Saying Even Though We Have Confirmed Casualties Of 60000 (Dead, Not Wounded) Soldiers And The North Have Over 1 Million Causalities A Lost? We Lost The Political War But We Won The Battles.

  • And victor does not mean winner. They called them Victor Charlie because VC, in NATO, is spelled Victor Charlie. They just shortened it to Charlie. They also called them gooks, they called the Germans in WW2 Krauts, and Jerry, the Japanese Tojo, and Nip, and they are calling the Taliban, Al Qaeda, and Insurgents towel heads, and haji.

  • VC stands for Viet Cong you moron.

  • Actually its because the troops were not allowed to attack into N Vietnam. They had to sit and wait for the NVA and VC to come to them...you can't win like that.

  • The US failed to achieve it's task, thus they lost the war.

  • That asshole John Wayne saw himself on Iwo Jima.

  • Personally, I think the Naval strategy of island hopping was not that smart. The Navy should have followed the ARMy'S lead. If the navy would have followed the ARMY'S lead, there would have been fewer deaths.

  • pretty easy to critique the strategy 60 years later when all the information from both sides is available to you eh?

  • elgato. I disagree. The island hoping idea was brilliant and saved millions of lives. THe European idea of wars of attrition is the crazy one. Thats why Americans lost so few people. The US Generals care about American lives, Every American life is sacrosanct. It is the superb leadership of Americans which has won every war - from Korea to Vietnam - from Iraq to Afghanistan. The American GI is just wonderful to watch in action.

  • Americans won the Vietnam War? Can't say the same about Korea either.

    What are you talking about?

  • Well we lost vietnam because the liveral hippies lobbied the government into pulling out before the job was done, much like Obama wants to do now.

Also in Korea we didn't win, but we kept the commies from taking over south Korea, so we didn't lose either.

  • Ever hear about "Vietnam Veterans Against the War?" They were combat veterans who opposed wasting American lives for nothing. Ho Chi Minh (who was educated in the US) said "Americans don't like long and inconclusive wars-and we will win because we will never quit!" Read Stanley Karnows book, and find out what really went on in Vietnam. It goes beyond ridiculous neo-con slogans and diatribes.

  • Sure as shit didn't lose Korea....read a bit about the Korean war, and I think you'll find the US and Korean and British and other allies won the war. The war isn't even over...there is still a state of war. There was a ceasefire, but no treaty. The whole armies of N Korea, and China, against under equipped, starving, surrounded allied troops, and yet, S Korea still exists. In Vietnam, we won in terms of fighting in l. It was the politicians who lost the war.

  • Are you serious? They Americans lost the Vietnam war. SHAME on you for not knowing that Mr swanningaround. Now you just look like an arrogant fool. Oh and you stalemated with the North Koreans, there is still communism in the north if you haven't noticed. Check the news.

  • Souryamss . I am serious. American certainly won in Nam. Everyone knows that. There were millions of NVA killed for a few thousand Americas. The US wanted to stop this senseless killing, and opted for peace. In Korea, the UN was involved, brilliantly lead by war heroes MacArthur (MOH for bravery) and Clark (DSC for bravery). The UN stopped the North invading the South. That is total Victory. Again, the US opted for world peace, and did not invade North Korea.

  • Well, the NVA accomplished their objective no matter how many they lost. The US lost 58,000 troops and accomplished nothing. The NVA won.

  • Yeah? The Navy followed Gen Short's idea to line up all our aircraft on the airfields in Hawaii in the center of the fields to guard against "sabotage", only to make them perfect targets when the Japanese attacked Pearl Harbor. If we would have put most of our fighter aircraft in the air during the second wave of the attack, we might have inflicted serious damage to the Japanese air forces and made a credible defense. The "Army" really blew it on that one!

  • Sinnsmd, the people who helped plan 9/11 (I.E. Bin Laden) planned that attack in Afghanistan. If Pakistan collapses, then the terrorist forces will have possession of a nuclear weapon. In regard Iwo Jima, remember the Japanese had a many months to prepare defenses and plan the battle. Those Marines took possibly the heaviest fortified island ever seen (terms of weapons and men per square mile). The Americans had horrendous losses but in comparison to the Japanese losses...which were almost 100%

  • swanningaround, you are a real moron, why the hell would you say such stupid stuff as you did, good on ya for respect but america was hardly superior, only by numbers, they took rediculous losses on iwo jima, why? because of superior planning by the japanese. Both sides took horrendous losses in the end and i dont think war is the way, but ta act like america is the greatest is wrong and Afghanistan? when did they attack america? dumbass.

  • second !!!!!!!and who are the first ?

  • he is one of the arse-holes who think america are better than everyone else.

  • God this is the reason ppl hate the US

  • I am, duh!

  • Ultimate respect. Two great armies faced each other and decided WW2. The Japanese put up a great fight and are definitely the second best people on the planet. They could never beat the resolve, bravery and intelligence of the American people. They knew they had met superior people, but tried anyway. Maximum respect to the Japanese people.

Don't forget though about the heroes of Bastogne, Easy Company of the "Band of Brothers" Division.

  • the USA were brave in iwo jima. but the Japanese were much much braver!

even when they knew they would die or be captured, they fought on!even to the very last man they fought on!

my highest respects to all countries in WW2

  • Partly true. This was a battle of honor for both sides. The Japanese had a simple choice - fight and die, or surrender and die. The Americans were not in the mood to take prisoners. This country attacked America, and all must die. This is about honor. American citizens are nice people. But if one American citizen is attacked by any foreign nation, all other Americans will attack that nation until it is wiped out. Afghanistan will soon realize that it must also pay.

  • im pretty sure the MOD and the president both knew that the Japanese were going to attack pearl harbour.....this could have been avoided

  • Probably. That is why the aircraft carriers weren't there.

  • if they knew they could have put up more defences and possibly defeated them

  • ok sargent surplus

  • The music was out of touch with the footage, in no way does the Music represent the era or the emotion of the Footage.

  • my grandfather is veteran in ww2 he still alive now he is 87 yrs old he is strong he told me hes exp in death march

  • banzaiiiiii

  • banzai in hokkien chinese means shit

  • this would be a good song if the singer had half a decent voice

  • Banzai!

  • very beautiful video.....this was a fucking war....

  • every war is.

    btw. the music is good

  • XD if the ppl in this video thought that they will be seen in a network where almost everyone is connected to ...

  • I think the Music is AWESOME! The song reminds me of my Dad, who fought in the South Pacific in WWII. John Wayne never joined the war effort even though others did, like Jimmy Stewart who flew a B-17 over the European Theater. WWII vets hate John Wayne.

  • I think it is more that war isn't how the movies make it out to be. Hopefully, I'll never know.

  • Very insightful Classic and your right. I give thanks I never went to war. War is obsolete with the technology we have now anyway.

  • Thank's Drumdancer. I love this song and it reminds me of my grandfather who was a Marine in the South Pacific. I know we both have heard many amazing stories from them.

  • Great archive material, but as a video it would have been much better with a more suitable type of music like the main theme from "Letters from Iwo Jima". :P

  • thanks, i found the music and the film. i really want to watch that film now. it looks sooooo good.

  • there were a lot of Marines and Sailors even in there 40's during World War two.. I don't see the logic in what your saying?

  • Iwo Jima la bataille la plus coûteuse du corp de marine des USA

  • go to 5deep cinema and look at some of the vids. its a new up coming group

  • my father was wounded on Iwo...John Wayne was an asshole

  • why? did john wayne shoot him?

  • How old was he when he was at Iwo Jima?

  • He would have been 21. Why? He just turned 85

  • john wayne was like 35 at the time iwo jima took place. the average age was like 19, iy would have been fairly absurd for him to be there. my granddad fought there at age 32 and was called "pops" by the rest of his unit.

  • wut happened?

  • Right...

  • man love this song...helped me through rough times..no matter what happened ther are always these special moments for yourself and this is a perfect soundtrack to it...never got that deep into the lyrics (iam german) so thx for posting this vid which gets me a little bit into the theme

  • hahahh your foolish, do some reading why some of them beheaded themselves....

  • My granfather brought a sword as a prize. Maybe that's the sword that beheaded themselves. The scared cowards killed themselves to do us a favor from wasting a good bullet.

  • Hey Marine, my grandfather was a Marine in WWII in the S. Pacific. What would you do if your world was crashing down around you and your culture told it was better to take your own life than to be taken prisoner by the enemy? They were not cowards.

  • If you have to die in combat, die with honor.

  • In their culture, that is an honorable way to die.

Anyway, how can you behead yourself? Unless you stuck the sword in a tree then jumped at it....

  • this song is awsome. Realy intresting style. Great vid

  • Drive By Truckers fucking rock man!

  • Crappy band? hahaha You fucking idiot

  • nice footage thanks for sharing!

  • One of my favorite songs by DBT, and a great video to go with it. I was recently given my grandfather's WWII photo book and it really blows my mind how so many men of his generation sacrificed so much for their country.

My Grandpa was in a Bomb Disposal unit in charge of clearing the beachhead for the invasion, if what I've been told is correct.

  • That music sucks, doesnt due the vid justice. What a dumbass.

  • Listen to the lyrics asshole.

Also, tr to open your mind to music thats no shoved down your throat by radio stations.

  • ok whats the name of tis song

  • he he its funny...

the money put into the american army (3 trillion) is enough to make a third word country into a first world country

  • Great Footage

  • did it just show heads at the end?

  • Yes

  • nande yo!iwo iijma ganbermasu!!!!....

  • Wow, what is it about any kind of war movie on youtube that causes people to make utter idiots of themselves and talk about things they don't understand? I swear every time I come back to youtube to be a member I see something like this and I ask myself "why the fuck do I even bother?"

  • It's Germanyankee because my heritage is Pennsylvania dutch my family has been in the US since 1751.

  • I'm sorry man, I misread your statement. When I saw the "Endless American War Crimes", I thought you were another clown trying to bash the USA. You made a good point, keep up the good work. My ancestors are also from Germany :)

  • u fucking moron those weren't japanese u idiot. those were innocent filipinos who were slaughtered by the japanese in the phillipines. ever hear of the bataan death march where the japanese salughterde tens of thousands of innocent filipino and american pows. the americans did nothing there. they never comitted any war crimes during that war that's why everyone has so much respect for them.
