I was looking for a 'head in the sand' video to make a political point on facebook and came upon this video... which could make the point well today on the lead and bleed of greed that fabricates fear to keep feeding wealth into the industrial military complex which 'has' taken over the US. We no longer are citizens with Constitutional Rights. The news today 10/15/11 is saying China is digging tunnels under the earth to hide nuclear military ambitions so we can't cut our huge military budget.
listen i use to think the us had the best army but then i learned that it doesnt matter size of you armie or you technologie or your train it falls on how well your men can handle it and how mentaly fit they are and how much honor bravery how much there willing to give and how far there willing to go and how much spirit and drive they have to win
@SavageSquaw Tell that to the hundreds of Canadians that died in Afghanistan. We fought and bled with the Americans accomplishing whatever the fuck we're supposed to accomplish over there. Just cause there's less of us doesn't mean we can't blow away insurgents in a more efficient manner and be polite about it.
@SavageSquaw We Dutch know that with the liberation of our country back in '44-'45 a lot of Canadians were involved. Actually when thinking of the liberation, we specifically think of the canadians as our liberators alongside the British and the Americans. That Canada's only got twice as many inhabitants as the Netherlands makes that fact even more stunning. So I guess making jokes about that isn't really appropriate.
I'm Canadian and I am eternally grateful for all what the U.S has done.
I wish the Canadian army would pull it together. Sure it may not be economically viable but I assume the Russians will be planning to attack the Canadian north for the land that surfaces once the ice melts for oil reserves.

john wayne was like 35 at the time iwo jima took place. the average age was like 19, iy would have been fairly absurd for him to be there. my granddad fought there at age 32 and was called "pops" by the rest of his unit.

elgato. I disagree. The island hoping idea was brilliant and saved millions of lives. THe European idea of wars of attrition is the crazy one. Thats why Americans lost so few people. The US Generals care about American lives, Every American life is sacrosanct. It is the superb leadership of Americans which has won every war - from Korea to Vietnam - from Iraq to Afghanistan. The American GI is just wonderful to watch in action.

Ho Chi Minh (who was educated in the US) said "Americans don't like long and inconclusive wars-and we will win because we will never quit!" Sure as shit didn't lose Korea....read a bit about the Korean war, and I think you'll find the US and Korean and British and other allies won the war. The war isn't even over...there is still a state of war. There was a ceasefire, but no treaty. The whole armies of N Korea, and China, against under equipped, starving, surrounded allied troops, and yet, S Korea still exists. In Vietnam, we won in terms of fighting in l. It was the politicians who lost the war.

Souryamss . I am serious. American certainly won in Nam. Everyone knows that. There were millions of NVA killed for a few thousand Americas. The US wanted to stop this senseless killing, and opted for peace. In Korea, the UN was involved, brilliantly lead by war heroes MacArthur (MOH for bravery) and Clark (DSC for bravery). The UN stopped the North invading the South. That is total Victory. Again, the US opted for world peace, and did not invade North Korea.

The Navy followed Gen Short's idea to line up all our aircraft on the airfields in Hawaii in the center of the fields to guard against "sabotage", only to make them perfect targets when the Japanese attacked Pearl Harbor. If we would have put most of our fighter aircraft in the air during the second wave of the attack, we might have inflicted serious damage to the Japanese air forces and made a credible defense. The "Army" really blew it on that one!

Sinnsmd, the people who helped plan 9/11 (I.E. Bin Laden) planned that attack in Afghanistan. If Pakistan collapses, then the terrorist forces will have possession of a nuclear weapon. In regard Iwo Jima, remember the Japanese had a many months to prepare defenses and plan the battle. Those Marines took possibly the heaviest fortified island ever seen (terms of weapons and men per square mile). The Americans had horrendous losses but in comparison to the Japanese losses...which were almost 100%

Ultimate respect. Two great armies faced each other and decided WW2. The Japanese put up a great fight and are definitely the second best people on the planet. They could never beat the resolve, bravery and intelligence of the American people. They knew they had met superior people, but tried anyway. Maximum respect to the Japanese people.
Don't forget though about the heroes of Bastogne, Easy Company of the "Band of Brothers" Division.

Partly true. This was a battle of honor for both sides. The Japanese had a simple choice - fight and die, or surrender and die. The Americans were not in the mood to take prisoners. This country attacked America, and all must die. This is about honor. American citizens are nice people. But if one American citizen is attacked by any foreign nation, all other Americans will attack that nation until it is wiped out. Afghanistan will soon realize that it must also pay.

I think the Music is AWESOME! The song reminds me of my Dad, who fought in the South Pacific in WWII. John Wayne never joined the war effort even though others did, like Jimmy Stewart who flew a B-17 over the European Theater. WWII vets hate John Wayne.

My Grandpa was in a Bomb Disposal unit in charge of clearing the beachhead for the invasion, if what I've been told is correct.
