How did you get the tach to work on megasquirt? Im in the middle of a turbo build on a 1992 535i and have no idea how to get the tach to work with megasquirt.
Hey! I have a m50 non vanos turbo and I am having issues wit a cut out where the car completely dies at 5000rpm ( which means it can't be tuned properly after 5k) this problem only occurs at wot . Just thought I would ask as you my have had the issue too if you have ever tuned on the stock ecu
Used to be. On MS, there are only 3 coil outputs if not using a cam signal you need to run wasted. Its coil on plug, but coils 1 and 6 fire at the same time, coils 2 and 5 fire, and 3 and 4 fire in pairs - hence wasted spark. Its coil on plug because the coil sits on the plug, but its not sequential. So, its "coil on plug wasted spark"

looks like sh*t...get that done professionally, and you won't have those problems and if something does go wrong you won't have to go through that mess. Installing a turbo is not like changing a tire amateur
lol iv just put a new t4 turbo on my beema 325. just buy the parts from ebay to be honest. i managed to get a prper stainless steel manifold from there so saves time with a welding job
yeah you can turbo a vanos M50, non-vanos are much better though because the cam timing can be easily set and they have bigger cams and dual valve springs, but you can just remove your vanos unit. A basic turbo kit will be $1,000-$2,000. You can turbo a stock motor but its not a good idea, your engine won't last very long and you won't be able to run very much boost, if nothing else at least get a thicker head gasket to lower your compression
You have to use a e34 5 series sump, best to use e36 gearbox, depending on clearance may have to use mk1 golf brake servo for manifold clearance. use e30 m3 prop shaft. :)
This is a 2.5L M50 non vanos. Its a holset H1E turbo charger. That motor in the car right now is the stock motor but I have another one that is being built as we speak. You can turbo the stock engine though.
Nice video and decent documentation. I used a custom built (i built it) megasquirt for my 1985 alfa romeo gtv6 before, took about 4 months to get it workin right, was awesome when it was running, and runing was fun, 'racing' config and 'street' config, just use laptop and upload a new config and away we go.
how much is this setup making right now and how much could the stock internals hold?

I was looking at your turbo build thread, and I don't get it. You're running COP and Wasted spark?

lol this is not a kit..
when you go turbo and you want decent, everything has to be pieced together or custom.
custom welding for the wastegate and downpipe, his downpipe looks like a 3incher.
not to mention custom exhaust manifold. etc etc

Hi I got a couple of questions about swapping the s-50 engine in my E-30 like:
1. Can i use the stock transmission or i have to use the m-3 tranny?
2. Do i have to remove some parts to fit the engine?
3. Did you have problems with the wiring?
4. Do i have to use another drive shaft?
I will appreciate your help.

thanks for the info but what do you mean with the mk1 golf are you talking about VW golf
xelanosk 4 years ago
yeah a mk 1 golf servo, cos its a bit smaller.
eeeee30ee 4 years ago
1. you do have to use the M3 transmission
2. probably
3. you use stock S50 wiring harness and ecu, no original engine wiring will be used
4. yes, you may need to have a custom one built
