  • The WWE just used this last month with Christian and Randy Orton. Wow!

  • The dream team would be Jim Ross and Lance Russell.

  • Technically, if this had been legit, Steve could have filed a complaint about the spit since that is referee's discretion as a foul in pro wrestling. It is considered unsportsmanlike conduct in boxing and other combat sports. Don't see why it wouldn't be in wrestling. If Norvell wanted it 100% clean and zero tolerance on infractions then technically he should have been DQed.

  • This was February 22nd 1982.

  • WWE...take note...THIS is how you make an entertaining wrestling show. This is 10 times funnier than any of the forced toilet humor that Vince/Triple H & company lobs at us every week. This is just flat out brilliant booking. Even TV script writers could learn a thing or two from this. Genius.

  • in this area you had the rock n roll, The original midnight express and The Fabs all at one time but on diffrent teams. Good ole memphis wrestling.

  • this is too funny, never seen this one

  • anyone remember Norvell Austin( The Black Panther) and Sputnik Monroe Vs The Interns w/ Dr Ken Ramey?

  • This is Norvell Austin against Steve Keirn. Norvell Austin as a helluva professional wrestler. Had the street thing down and was definitely a Pro Wrestler!! He had been around for quite awhile and got his big break from Sputnik Monroe!!!

  • He was especially good as a tag team wrestler and had several titles as both one third of the original Midnight Express (yes they were originally a stable), as well as one half of the Pretty Young Things with Koko B. Ware

  • Didn't Keirn get his ass kicked legit by Koko B. Ware?

  • I am from Memphis and always followed the wrestling close. I never heard of a legit encounter between Koko and Steve Keirn. That does not mean it did not happen.

  • as an old and avid memphis wrestling fan there was no one like lance he could tell a story and he would get involved with the storyline and he had such great passion for the buisness.

  • Those are some pretty stacked odds, Steve. I can't think of many one-on-one for the tag titles matches that didn't end with the champs losing.

This event leads to a madlib of wrestling history, with this being the original Midnight Express getting the titles, then the titles being held up so there is a tag tournament that sees Bobby Eaton and Sweet Brown Sugar defeating Robert Gibson and Stan Lane. The future Midnight Express and one half of the Rock'n'Roll Express along with Koko B. Ware.

  • I love kerin, hes one of my trainers, and the man!~

  • dont hate on keirn he was one of the greatest workers to ever come down. and even better than lawler or dundee

  • I would suggest Bill Dundee is just as stupid as Keirn in this angle.

  • Lance Russell is no Gordon Solie. Lance is always getting involved, and never lets a wrestler do interview without cutting in. "Stop in Steve. Cut it out Bill. Don't do that Jerry." Sounds too much like a dad. Memphis was a good territory, but Lance made it hard too watch sometimes.

  • Finally...someone with a criticism of Lance Russell. What a great description of Russell "like someone's dad." I don't think he's bad, and he's good for this promotion, but I'm always stunned some think he's better than Gordon Solie.

  • I'm stunned when someone suggests otherwise - Lance was THE BEST.

  • @GShea Jim Ross was the best. But I like Lance better than Solie. Lance is probably number2 in my book and perfect for this promotion.

  • Lance was 10 times better than Gordon. Gordon had a stutter streak so long, probably shouldn't have been an announcer. Least Lance was smooth always could say something without stutter. Dave Brown was better as well.

  • Lance sold storylines better, and FINALLY... someone acknowledges DAVE BROWN. Those guys worked well together.

  • I AGREE WITH YOU ONE HUNDRED PERCENT

  • @dandbradley Lance Banana-Nose Russell was an old obnoxious Jerry Lawler ass-sucking windbag and Dave Brown was his homosexual third-rate weatherman sidekick. I spit on all three of them and their fans.

  • I watched both Memphis wrestling and Georgia wrestling. In comparing Gordon Solie and Lance Russell its apples and oranges. Gordon Solie added realism to the show with his use of anatomical references and allowed the stories to tell themselves, whereas Lance Russell was more of an entertainer. Lance often played the foil to the likes of Lawler Dundee and the other top heels of the area. I wish todays announcers were as good as Solie, Lance Russell or another of the greats Les Thatcher.

  • I liked Bob Caudle's commentary in Mid-Atlantic. He sounded like a country preacher calling matches.

  • as far as announcers: lance came off self-righteous, gordon solie was good but nasal when he spoke, rod trongard from awa was underrated, jesse ventura was great, gorilla monsoon was very good as long as he had the right people with him, tony shivane was exciting(or just excited)and mcmahon-please don't make me compliment mcmaggot

  • I love Dundees purple suit.

  • What a great little angle! A new one on me.

  • Ha ha! Nice one, Keirn.

  • great stuff GShea... Thank you for your continued efforts....

  • You really do a great job with Memphis wrestling. I didn't get to see much of it then and mostly saw Georgia and Mid Atlantic.

  • thanks GS

    2 superior workers

  • GShea, you are the man whenever it comes to posting classic Memphis footage from the 1980s!

I hope you keep them coming for a long time & thanks for adding the air dates.
