you'll be surprised, but this is actually a more German style, (I know, medieval German is nothing like that stereotypical modern stuff with men in lederhosen and lots of weissbier), plus the bagpipes are not celtic in any way, they are actually a german style of bagpipe that is completely separate from the typical Scottish style

I know that this is typical german style of showing "medieval music" (actually, the martkmusik that is played by so many has not much to do with real medieval music, but its still great :P) in the vid, and this is one of the kinds of music the Sandsacks play. But, and its important to mention that, they are mostly an irish Folk Band. You should look at their two albums, one is Irish Folk Only, the other is half Irish half Medieval.

And to add, the "marktpfeife" is not at all totally different from the GHB, they are really close related. The martkpfeife is a modern instrument, the real german bagpipe is the Schäferpfeife.

Es gibt viele Dudelsäcke die wie Blockflöte gespielt werden, im Grunde musst du dir dann nur noch die Spieltechnik beibringen, lernt man eigentlich recht schnell da gibts viele anleitungen im internet ^^ ich habs auch so gemacht.

Your quite right that the majority of the population in the Middle Ages were agricultural workers or small farmers who led a very tough life. The horse riding or Knightly class was a tiny minority. Throw in the Plague and baths once a year (whether you needed on or not)and it wasn't a fun time. The one reliable thing though was the beer, safer than the water, drink by everyone even children, it was the staff of life.

Yup, on mainland europe the old ways of medieval music hold truer than Albion. I was in Dresden, Germany once. They had a medieval band playing in the street :)
