@xterminator069 all TIMs are abrasive some are made from harder materials than others. I have never tried it on a bare core. I have however used it on memory and motherboard chips very successfully.
It would have been nice if you had tested the temps after applying the TIM w/o changing out the brackets. I've read that the stock TIM on the 580 is actually shin etsu X23.. I think the difference in temp would be negligible but I've never personally tried IC Diamond so I'm not sure.
@finlayene I am sure O have done the TIM replacement on manycards without the highflow brackets. Also I have done highflow brackets w/o TIM. The high flow brackets yield 1-2 degree change at best sometimes no change. On the 580s the high flow brackets were neglible w/ ~0-1 degree difference.
@FalconCMH So no tim change with highflow bracket was 0-1 degree difference but tim+bracket was like 10C on one card? wow! I need to try some IC Diamond! can you mail me a sample? :-D
@FalconCMH I saw another video that mentioned that, and I remember reading it from somewhere, but when I checked the website, they didn't say anything about it, so I guess that's correct. Just making sure. Looks like I'll be getting some of that for my cpu upgrade.
Great video, thanks for posting! Question about the IC Diamond for you. How many 1.5 gram tubes did you use total on all 4 cards? Any idea how much TIM you needed for each individual GPU? Thanks!
@Luger718A1 More is better you cannot have to much the excess squishes out. Not enough is very bad. I am a TIM expert and have been doing this a very long TIM and my application is right on.
@FalconCMH "More is better" - Even on a CPU? I can see your point about a GPU since it's not going to run off onto the motherboard, but most examples I've seen suggest a pea sized dot, or a grain of rice. Though I've read that ICD isn't conductive anyhow - I'd still like a cleaner application. Nice videos by the way. This has pushed me in the direction of trying out this compound.
A gtx 580 for Black ops? I have a 9600m gt and I play good, then with 580 i can play with 5D at 300 fps? Real question: -Buy: core i9 OC 595 GTX 12 GB DDR3 2ghz or more 256 GB sdd with 2x 1TB 7200 rpm + with 600 W or 800 W? Better 800 W for have more but too much?
@LMeu17 he never siad you needed 580 for black ops. Its simply known as a "Black ops edition" meaning the creators of black ops wanted to sponsor their product AND the creators of the 580 wanted to sponsor their product as well so they combined the two. Its like Peanut Butter & Jelly, no?
@LMeu17 dude i have a 9600m gt.. It does not run good. I have no idea what you are talking about. Lowest setting and I get 40 fps? are you kidding this is CoD not Crysis. So dont go lying on here. Do some research.
Very nice vid. I just upgraded from a GTX 470. Am in the UK, all out of stock here, so on back order. 'course I also fold, just on weaker cards ;) (470 & 3x 9800GTs)
Do you know if you need to buy 580 hf brackets or just get the 480 ones? Thanks in adv,
For the GTX 480, EVGA released a single bracket for the card, do you think they will do one for the GTX 580? it would be cool to buy the superclocked version and then when comes to watercooling and putting the blocks on the gtx 580's, put the single bracket on to make a single slot gpu
@FalconCMH i get the brackets aswell but only when EVGA release the superclocked versions of the card in the UK, not even the standard EVGA GTX 580 is out in the UK, don't no what taking them so long, the list of games i want play on it is getting longer :P
95c? I get worried when my card gets over 85c. But I do have a 485m mobile card, so I don't know if that makes a difference.

@Sleinous The 480 HF Brackets work for the 580s. EVGA has renamed them to the 480/580 HF Brackets in their online store.

how much of a difference would there be after you re-applied the TIM and put the high flow bracket on?
dipzyv 1 year ago
@dipzyv 6-10*C, I got like 23*C on one card but it was prolly a bad TIM application at the plant.
