@AshleyGirl41 1, 2, and 3 are related to each other. as for 4, i'm not entirely sure. It might be its own separate storyline

Miku from FF1 is in 3, her brother Mafuyu was friends with Rei's lover Yuu, plus we get Yae from FF2 showing up in 1, who's daughter was the one spirited away from the mansion by Kirie (and was Miku's great grandmother I believe?) The 4th game also includes a reference to Dr Asou, who created the Camera Obscura and the spirit stone radio.

@AshleyGirl41 The uploader isn't entirely correct. While there are some details that exist in all the Fatal Frames (creator of the Camera Obscura, for example), 1, 2 and 4 are seperate stories. It's advisable to play 1 and 2 before 3, though, as 3 shares characters with the previous games.
