Datamining YouTube - How many views do YouTube videos get?

Like "chiefpiggum" I also wonder what constitutes a view. If the video has to be watched right to the end, then long videos will get less views.

I've come across lots of short videos (30 secs or less) of absolute rubbish but with a very enticing Title like "Celebrity strips". By the time the viewer realise that the video is rubbish, the video is over. But it is still a view. Such videos can garner millions of views. But what I want to point out is such videos cause people to waste their time.

Got question: How do "views" get calculated?

Is it for every time a video gets watched all the way through or simply clicking on the link?

For example if someone watched this 9min vid but stopped at around the 5min mark would that count as a view?
