Don't be a moron, that smashed glass will eventually be reported and upon accessing your readings you will become one of many people I catch everyday abstracting electricity. You would be disconnected and then have to pay a reconnection fee to get a new meter. Just pay up!!!

easiest way is to smash the glass and jam a key in the wheel to stop it from turning , my advise dont leave it there during the days incase your metre gets read. Then cut a slightly bigger size glass so it sits in there 100% this works!!!!!

well the way i used to see them ,was that ,if you buy a battery charger ,for a car ,open it up and the transformer ,strip all the copper wire of it ,then ,use 2.5mm cable ,and wrap it round the transformer ,now this is a basic description ,the reason they were so dangerous was ,you had to put the earth lead on first ,because if you didnt ,you would blow the hole meter of the wall

My mate had one of these black boxes that made her meter run backwards... It's real dangerous fitting it, and if you get caught there's one hell of a fine... Mind you, they are digital meters these days and you can't make them run in reverse.

@kevrs2 As far as I know she passed it on years ago, Installing it you had to stand on rubber car mats, wear wellies and rubber gloves while you knocked nails through the power cables.

The box it's self was filled with a bitumen substance to hide the components, I guess the guy who made them didn't want them being copied.. They sold for £100's 20 years ago, so I guess he wanted to protect his work.

If it doesn't have a backstop, it's even easier. 50VA transformer, secodary = one or two turns to give around 25-50A at 1-2V then, bond one end to a plug live (replace fuse with bolt), other end to picture hook slid up behind LINE in. Effectively passing 25-50A antiphase from load > line. Illegal and dangerous on non consumer owned equipment but no 3-phase coils devices needed. If 3-phase meter just stick to same phase. They use to be nicknamed "Anti-gravity" machines :)

On later model watt meter you might be a ble to reverse the rotation of the disk but the meter dial will continue to move in the same counting up rotation. Its no use.
