You're right. Bankers would be smarter than this. Quality cars and trucks? I guess UAW's standard is pretty low then, for their products and employees.
don't get it.. UAW doesn't wan't Ch.11 as it will give big 3 legal ability to restructure UAW contracts. So WHY IN THE HELL would they not agree to concessions to allow bail-out money to be given to the big 3? You're banking on Bush to rescue you?
The UAW simply does not want chapeter 11 restructuring as it will end their continued sucking of the life out of these companies. Reality is not enough was retained from UAW wages over time to pay for UAW benefits and the majority of members are retied. This government money will flow to the retirees, most of which are far better of than the average American citizen.
Did anyone else notice that the voiceover is only present in the left audio channel? I usually only put in my right earbud at work so that I can hear what's going on around me. At first I thought that the ad was just music and photos.
Fitting, however, that the real message should come from the left.
Bankers actually have a college degree and other relevant qualification. A high school diploma ain't gonna be enough for you work at JP morgan's and etc.
On the other hand, an able bodied 24 year old Latino could probably work at auto assembly lines, with some proper training. GIVE these jobs to the poor.
The UAW should go the way of the dinosaurs. I got an idea, you get me a job doing crossword puzzles for $35/hour with a golden benefits package, call it a jobs bank, and I'll support Congress giving you all the cash you want. This system worked great for East Germany.
No bailout for the the big 3 auto companies. Let them file for chapter 11, reorganize ,and tell the union to pound sand. Why do Honda, Toyota, and BMW seem to make a profit and have happy workers and yet Ford, GM, & Chrysler want the Taxpayer to fund these leeches sitting in a job bank doing nothing for 95% of their pay.
I work for my money to support my family. It won't be for those who don't.
Let them fail and reorganize. It's going to be painful either way, but not our our dime.
Boo Freakin' Hoo. The UAW has been killing the golden goose my whole life, and now that the consequences are creeping up on them they cry about losing their jobs. I, for one, can't wait for the demise of the UAW.
The chickens have come home to roost UAW. Deal with it. No sympathy until you stop sucking the automotive industry dry. Ah the disinfecting sunshine of the internet.
Yous are the problem. Decrease your salaries ... Auto workers should not make over 70+ a hour with benefits *NY Post Statistics. Foreign company workers only make 40+ a hour with benefits.
A PV2 In The US Military only makes around 50+ thousand a year w/ benefits compared to your over 100,000 w/ benefits. There is no way in the world that your work is more important than anyone in the military.A recruit in Basic training does more important work
JeanUSARMYGUARD: You're so right. Our military families are the most overworked and underpaid of all. And these auto workers have the gall to complain!
Jean, you're talking apples and oranges here. An infantry veteran, I didn't serve my country for the money. I understand career military families need decent housing and all that, but that is another issue. To me, the core issue here is about what is right and fair. Nowadays, there's no discernible difference between a union boss in the auto industry and a corporate banker. Both have been greedy and corrupt, foolish and shortsighted. And now both have their hands out. I say no.
You make wildly unreasonable wage and benefit demands, you contribute millions to a single political party and lobby for protectionist legislation harmful to the greater interests of the country, and you promote the passage of undemocratic laws that take away the private vote so you can intimidate holdouts. And now you come guilt-tripping along, begging us to save your $73/hr job because you can't compete and won't make meaningful concessions. I say no, and there are millions who feel as I do.
The UAW has been a virus to the US auto industry for decades and they want us to feel sorry for them? Yet foreign auto manufacturers in right to work states aren't hurting one bit.
If the unions really cared about the workers, they would be making concessions left and right to ensure that their workers would be making something rather than nothing. The only people a bailout will benefit are greedy union bosses.
Get rid of the Unions and their blackmailing ways and maybe these companies will have a chance. So sad that the Unions have killed these companies. The car companies down south are not having these problems.....I wonder why.
Perhaps if the big 3 file for bankruptcy and the UAW dissolves, they could make decent cars for a decent price again! There's no better choice than that.
The arrogance of this ad is beyond comprehension! The mafia tactics of the UAW is the reason the lil' 3 are in this predicament.
And not to mention, the ad is just a scare tactic. The airlines filed bankruptcy, they are still around. A chapter 11 bankruptcy forces a second party to direct the reorganization of the company, in which they could dismiss the UAW. Sad that the UAW is a huge democrat supporter, so they will probably get what they want...sigh
Yeah, I'm broke too, why don't you guys bail me out ? Jesus, are you fucking kidding me ? you want to beg, go do it with a cup and a sign on a street corner. the UAW killed the american car companies, it is YOUR fault, get it ? You bled them dry, they can't compete, and the guy at the toyota plant
( also an american, BTW ) is doing your job for like 30 bucks less an hour. Suck it up and compete or see ya.
i think that every huge industry should want a union mafia like the uaw. sure it costs a lot to maintain, but then there's a floor for failure set by how much money the union can extort from the government when you fail to produce anything. although, the nea has an even more efficient model. their members have zero productivity and they're directly employed by the government.
Um, yeah. These greedy jerks have finally managed to bleed their companies dry and now have the gall to come out and beg us for money. Poor schmucks will just have to make it in the real world with the rest of us.
F the UAW, too much money for the work, too many benefits for the job. this isn't anyone's fault but those who ask for too much (the union) and those idiots who gave it to you and produced below par automobiles... the execs.
get rid of the robots and go back to hand tools and you may deserve the money you make.

"Not bankers"
ok, you are selfish and lazy rednecks who killed your golden goose. maybe you should have been reasonable with your legacy costs in the 70's and 80's.
"we build quality cars and trucks" NO YOU DONT! If you were building quality cars people would be buying them.
Ford Focus? Chevy Cobalt? Chyrsler I dont even know? These cars are plastic pieces of shit.
Sorry, but its time to be replaced.
