@BLRD2MugenAndHipHop I've always thought about why Percee didn't blow up as much as G Rap. After seeing his freestyle in '89 you can tell he's light years ahead of his time.

The only problem with Percee is consistency. His 1st so far studio album was released in 2007, which is in the wrong era if you ask me. If he would of released an album in the late 80's or early 90's, he'd probably be credited ALOT more. He had the exact style in 1989 that people still use, kinda funny actually.

With his lyrical style, the way he kicked his metaphors back in those days... it wasn't really the kind of thing that people could latch onto. He was a lyrical sorcerer in an age where emcees were primarily concerned with being witty. Listeners weren't ready for his complexity. Maybe if he had put out an album in '90 (the same year Finesse put out Funky Technician), he might be more known.

I'm more than certain that some users and individuals have already pointed this out in previous comments, but this entire verse was the first one that Percee P utilized in his 1989 battle against Lord Finesse, with minor lyrical modifications to make it sound slightly more modern. It is definitely a testament to how ahead of his time he was back in '89 that these rhymes STILL sound fresh 22 years later.

Percee is probably one of the most lyrical emcees I've ever heard... up there with G Rap.
