It's a Romance language which means it's derived from Latin (the language of the Romans of course) and it's related to Spanish, Italian, French, Portuguese, etc. So if you know one of those other languages I mentioned or some of one of them it will help you. Also knowing English will help you a lot, because English has a ton of Latin words. Plus you're only 18 so you have a lot of time. Just tryin' to be encouraging :)
