@osenton Friend has one of these and I have a BMW GS1200 Adventure and I love it. If you have ridden other bikes and want to get into touring but dont want to go into the full on touring bike then get one of the above. My BMW is the best bike I have ever owned.

rode a mates 990 smt the other day n felt like i had been ridin it for years!! fantastic bike! handling was amazing with plenty o grunt! i want 1 confidence inspiring plus! felt like it wanted to wil stand & altho i used to ride a XR Enduro 250 in the bush i wasn't ready to doot on my mates bike!! i tink in time i wud not b able to resist! was tinkin slightly lower bars but thats prob jus wot iv bin used to ova the years withbikes iv owned!!! an awesome machine!!! :) i ride a 2001 sprint !

lol too much for the queens highway, and that the 990 would have better control? There is absolutely no way that bike will have better control on the highway. ABSLUTELY NO CHANCE! I have driven it several times and I own a brand new CBR1000RR (FireBlade) and it out performs the 990 in all aspects (on pavement)

I love the 990 but lets not make foolish claims like this!

@nokmuay1970 This is not my option. I also own a 990Smr and its a great bike and i don´t know your location but this bike comes far better around corners as a Fireblade. Sure you got problems with it on high speed because it has a open front but driving as fast as you can with 250+ kmh is for teenagers and Ghostrider from sweden but this bike is like a perfect mix you can drive long turns on it you got way enough power in any situation and its fun to drive corners with it :-)

i have a ktm 990sm now for about 1,5 year, and i can say its a perfect bike for every day....you can get to work, through a city or on a long journey over 4000km, i had always a lot of fun with it

only negative is fuel consumption (7-8L/100km) and sometimes through the city or in the rain...the very agressive throttle (but its nice on twisty roads, as long as its dry ;D )

These type of bikes will make R1s and the like look ponderous and stupid in the city or back roads but since it doesn't look like a race bike or have impressive specs most people will pass on them. These bikes are for people who love to ride and not sit around polishing their bikes and measuring their wee dongs.

You should test drive.. I drove the 690 duke, and the 990 SM, SM T and Adventure..

I'm at 95 kg, and had good fun on the 690 as well, it's a really good high RPM one cilinder, bug I must say, that the power of the 990 made me smile :)..

It just comes down to experience, and how often you drive to work..

I own a 06 KTM 950sm and is by far the funnest bike i have ever rode.I will buy a 990sm, if it comes to the USA. The only downside to the KTM sm is that your face hurts all the time, from all the smiling!
