  • @hisro haha :] i love how you spelled legend as leyend, true chicano!!!

  • @ThisSydeUp Im not chicano haha! I´m MEXICAN! I was born in Mexico, I live in mexico and I will die in mexico. <3

I wrote leyend instead of legend, tiny mistake. S:

  • Genial! Gefällt mir...

It reminds me of the funeral walks of my elder kin,

    such glorious death those were

  • this is a descant song

  • :| .......is this video talking about la llorona?

  • @hubhikariyoshi150 that's a good question :/

  • @lolgirl04 really this video doesn't have anything about her.it probably isn't related to her

    P.S.

Oaxaca is a state of Mexico

for more information Wikipedia :P or come to visit us, is a wonderful place

    (its cheap)

  • Beirut and this song are absolutely amazing !!

  • They seem to scenarios of our Mexico, our Mexican history.

  • Me encanta esta cancion!

  • i very much fell in love with Beirut this year. I hold March of the Zapotec very dear to me since I of Zapotec descent. Even my parents enjoy Beirut!

  • @EsteeDee mine too haha. :-) but i'm nahua.

  • Oh, i love this song so much!

  • i was under the impression that La LLarona is a banshee of sorts who lost her children horribly.....and becomes vengeful and then begins to take the children of others

  • They're live here in Houston right now and I couldn't go see them...:(

  • La llorona isn't just for mexico, there's a story like that in every latinamerica country, here in colombia the tale says that she killed her own childs to stay with a guy she loves but then he goes away and she feels sad and stupid so she kills herself and god makes her go down by the river looking for her childrens as a punishment

  • @plastilina000 Yes "La llorona" isn't just for mexico but this album "march of the zapotec" was based on Condon's recent trip to Oaxaca, Mexico. =)

  • MEXICO!

  • love it!!! and also it sounds to me like spanish holy week's traditional song called saeta!! i'm also from México!!

  • 30 ppl can suck my dck

  • Viva Oaxaca!!!

  • Ojala vengan pronto a mexico

It reminds me a lot to the music of Holy Week in Seville (Spain).

    i love this song!

  • @angelurri totalmente de acuerdo

  • i love that melody

  • one of the most happiest melodies...

  • "The morning lies miles away from the night."

  • yeah id say the same many people don't even look at mexicos rich culture of traditions. they only judge by looks that is why most people who think like that are ignorants

  • n mn mn

  • jahlkdsjfhlaksdjf

  • me encanta <3

  • I think that what makes this group and this song incredibly beautiful, is that they mix balcanic, latinamerican and world culture in general... in fact, "La llorona" is also a colombian typical legend. So there are not reasons to fight about if this song is mexican or serbian or whatever.... it's just Beirut taking elements from all around the world.

  • @juanchomoreno actually yes.. la llorona is a hispanoameric legend.... but the song in general.. is made from mexicans sonwriters by the way beirut takes this sound and all this soul from a trip they made in oaxaca.. thats why the album named the march of zapotec .... the influence of this song was oaxaca, mexico. :)

  • It is not a sound of Mexico! It is a sound of serbian trumpet orchestras. Boban Markovic,Dejan Petrovic...try to listen ...sound of GUCA!!!!!

  • @poparacicvara There is a state here in Mexico called Oaxaca. Maybe people in Oaxaca doesn´t sing in english, but the mellody really sounds like that. It is usuall at funerales, and as part of local culture. You can see it if you look "Guelaguetza" in youtube or google. Regards!!!

  • It is not a sound of Mexico! It is a sound of serbian trumpet orchestras. Boban Markovic,Dejan Petrovic...try to listen ...

  • @poparacicvara

it is traditional sounds of mexico look at the video. ive also visited mexico and that is proof enough

  • This song ... how can I count the many ways that it is just plain fucking BRILLIANT !.

  • SIMPLEMENTE... EXCELENTE!

  • Amazing blending of cultures I love the melody

  • The artist has depicted this tale and brought out by the inspiration their own musical creation. I don't believe it's intent was to change or deter from the melodies of the original composition I think the story was told through Beirut's music through their compositions. well written and well done beautiful melody and rich with culture thank you Beirut for telling this classic story through your beautiful music

  • Eu tb!!! Eu sou mexicana morando no Brasil... Abrazos

  • actually the woman kill her own children bye jelousy her husband abandoned her so she fell helpless, kill the childs and awake screaming o mis hijos (o mi sons) for the streets, folk tale very beautiful

  • wtf did i just watch

  • This version of the "song LLorona" or weeping woman completely DESTROYS IT'S original Beauty.. Why would someone do this??>..

  • Why do you think this? I think it's a beautiful song on it's own.

  • I never get tired of this song!

  • Perfect!!!

  • beirut is like good literature.

it explores other cultures and other times and bring understanding and depth to my own life in the process.

other music is empty and wasteful; like reading Twilight

  • @amarajabara I think you should listen to Antony and the johnsons... it seems you like good music, and antony is pure art in music and lyrics, a true genius.. listen to Cripple and the starfish - probably most horrifying and beautiful song I have ever heard, makes every person cry when you read it, specially when you realise that he sings about sexually abused children...

  • @amarajabara quod demonstrandum erat: Twilight is not litterature.

  • @amarajabara wow u talk shit about adding "depth" to ur own life yet you come out with some pretty closed and negative like calling twilight wasteful.................now I haven't read the books but I've seen the movies and although I'm no fan of them by any stretch of the imagination, I can still gather that u my friend, are a hipster piece of trash.

  • @d50111 I feel like someone should say this. Please, please, and with all due respect stop posting on these videos. It draws my eyes from their rightful place at the top half of the screen, and I'm forced to gaze upon lingual diarrhea instead of dicking around on Facebook, or watching this just alright video.

  • @amarajabara Joanna Newsom? Sufjan Stevens? Bon Iver? You need to expand your horizons...

  • @PERSONIFICATIONOFYAY The Antlers.

  • es genial

    suena tan bello

    y me enorgullece mas

    xq es de mi estado

    gracias beirut!!

  • there is something magical in that song

    Mexico has amazing legends

  • wow, I got goosebumps. I actually got goosebumps. This is so great.

  • 1 word...beautiful

  • nice! thanks to share!

  • @iiMdEESHiiTTiiNY13 you have the worst spelling ever. learn how to write before you criticize things. illiterate piece of shit.

  • @shane703758 Go grow some balls you shithead

  • @shane703758 Come on, have some respect. If you don't have anything pleasing (or intelligent, for that matter) to say, don't say anything at all.

  • hooooora moorines

  • they are not mexicans .. they're americans..

  • @sapzapgr pendejete ,, jaja no sabras que significa

  • Amoooo esta rola... VIVA MEXICO... I love this song....... europeans come to Mexico its a very beatiful place to visit...... lots of violene too but its part of the tourist thing.. ajjajajajajajajaja.... if you want to see a gunfire live please live it in Mexico, guaranteed

  • @oemg77co not true, i live in mexico city and ive never been robbed or seen a gunfight in my life

  • @DanBur94 But yes you are correct, there are many different versions of this tale.

  • @DanBur94 In the legend she actually drowned her children to be with a man she loved. But then he rejected her and she killed herself. Its funny though everytime I go back to Mexico no matter what part I'm in the little kids tell me "The llorona comes out at night"

    She's a travelin lady!

But yes, this song is amazing.

  • Interesting and meaningful. "life is life" :)

ps fuck off racism fasism and all the fuck-ism sound shits

    ps2 beirut+rakija=awsome.

  • genious in our time

  • so much sense...

  • this is one of the most awesome songs ever,

and i love that it envolves part of my culture, La llorona is actually a folk tale about a woman who lost her children and goes every night into the streets screaming, "Ay mis hijos, (Oh my sons)."

  • @DanBur94 Maybe woman's who cries in funerals (zepelios) :3... Can't say if still practice, but i think is more about the love of a man with one of these cryin' womens, More in Oaxaca, specially juchitan where is believed is the song

sorry for my bad english :P

  • @NetjerTa I didnt meant the theme of the song, i mean the traditional mexican myth of la llorona, anyways my grandma told me that she was a very cheap woman who sold her children for money and the regret it, and that is why she comes out in the night searching for her children. Though i think that is the version of couahuila, there are more versions of La Llorona.

  • @DanBur94 i thought she drowns them ands soons regrets it though if she sees children it gets her angry and she drowns them soon regreting that

  • @DanBur94 it's real i sen her with my wn two eyes when i was 5 yrs old and still lived in Mexico , call me crazy , but i am telling you the truth , at that time i didn't know WTF was her or any of that stuff till i got here in the USA and i was 7 then i stared knowing about the things that happen there, by the age of 20 i told my sister about the lady i saw and saw told me that was how every one says the llorona looks like , I not BS here i did.

  • @DanBur94 its not the streets, i thought it was that she lost her children because they drownd in a river and she is crying (hense llorar) mis hijos

  • @johnpsmith84 well i think theres a different version for every region in mexico, ive also heard that the real one is about a female aztec priest; In the city of tenochtitlan before the Spanish came, there was this female priest who acted like a "mother" to the aztec people, and suppossely she had a vision of what was going to happen to her "sons" and she went out of her temple everyday screaming " ay mis hijos!"

I heard that version in a museum, but as i said every region has its own version

  • @DanBur94 No, you are on the right track. The thing is that, it was aztec, but from other nation. That women is "La malinche", that indian girl who helped the spaniords defeat the aztec and Mexico in general.

  • @DanBur94 as if no one knows that stupidass

  • @DanBur94 ... im mexican.. and my mom would always scare me with this story.. "dont do that or else la llorona is gonna come get you at night! " ... lmao. good times.

  • I CAN FEEL THE FEELING ON THI PIECE, EVERY DAY MAKES ME FEEL MORE PROUD OF MY FOLK
