The video shows the RAI trademark, that's the Italian state television, which means there is a high quality master of the concert somewhere in Italy......
Now THIS IS A L O U R E E D CONCERT! Wish I was there, In the crowd, drenched in the theater of it all, maybe a bit high too... This is how ROCK'N ROLL is done, Boys 'n Girls...From the Heart, From the Heart! (Bakabana1966, thank you!)
when I'm a bit depressed, or simply bored, this version of The Kids makes me feel better and better... maybe 'cause I was there and my age was a bit different.
Eventually the master tapes should see light of day.
Even as is, every time I see this I feel the pain in these songs.
Almost forgot how great these guys were.
Think that these "Berlin" songs were added to the set when guitarist Chuck Hammer joined Lou circa '79, (least that's what I read in the Diana Clapton book. The emotion in these intimate pieces launched on 80,000 Italians; some them are seriously melting down.
Very different from the formal version he is currently touring.
yep back then in 1980 Lou Reed was a rocknroller, the Berlin songs are really rocknroll, while nowadays the Berlinsongs are performed like in a theatre, too much arranged, Berlin now is more like a product.I'm afraid Lou's working now on a Sister Ray ballet !!
i traded it with someone from the US of A, it's my alltime favorite Lou Reed concert on video,
i once wrote a letter to RAI-tv but they said they can't send me a copy of the master, i think the best is if someone can write in Italian a letter to Berlusconi ? if this footage is launched on DVD it will be a bestseller, i'm sure !!

"Since she lost her daughter, it's her eyes that fill with water"
Perhaps the most emotional reading of these "Berlin" songs ever recorded.
I know he is out there touring this material right now, but this was it.
These guys weren't trying to act cool. They felt it, and they played their hearts out. By far the tightest and most emotional band he ever had. 1980 Firenze the peak.

To me, this is Lou at his height. Its a great blend of alternative theater, beat poetry and rock and roll aesthetics.

Lou with Michael Fonfara, Chuck Hammer, Ellard Boles, Stuart Heinrich, and Michael Suchorsky: Perhaps Lou's toughest amd tightest band to date.
