PART 2:

it would phase you back into normal Orgrimmar where everyone could see you but you couldn't see them. So they'd all attack you and when you got low health you'd unmount and vanish away from normal Orgrimmar.

This has been fixed now but mostly just because they made all passenger mounts not vehicles anymore. That's why you can't fall from an unlimited height from your Mammoth anymore and not die.(Before you could fall from your mammoth and it wouldn't kill you, it would kill the mammoth

PART 1:Explanation for those confused:

In Wotlk there was a quest that sent you to your factions home city in a phased area. Can't remember the exact quest but it sent you to your home city in a phase. So you couldn't see anyone else in the city. If you were alliance and got this quest, you could go to Orgrimmar and see all their phased stuff for the horde side of the quest. No NPC would attack and most of all when you mounted on a vehicle (OR Mammoth, which was technically a vehicle back then)

@Vazslol No, it is not a private server. It is from the Wrath of the Lich King quest after the scene at the Wrath Gate where Alliance players need to go to a phased Orgrimmar and talk to Thrall.  It bugged.

Im not sure, but i guess it's shadowmeld bug. When you shadowmeld and logout you become invincible for everyone and any dots would break this. Im not sure it is working in 4.2, but you still could do this in earlier cata patches.
