I strongly suggest you check out Alex Collier's talk at the Awake and Aware Conference by Project Camelot. It really goes as deep as you can get down the rabbit hole and requires an open mind, but makes a lot of sense. Also really nails stuff on the head about the United States and humanities place in the universe. Take what you want from it, but truth will resonate with you regardless. Funny how they expect us to buy a bunch of crap this holiday season after they cut our income and keep laying scores of people off. Here in CA they upped the state withholding by 10% on Nov. 1st. In my county, sales tax was raised from 8.75% to 9%. They also withheld our cost of living increase this year and our health insurance premiums went up by 9%. I also take 1 furlough day a month. Many have 2 and 3 day a month furloughs. Sure sounds like a great recipe for retail sales growth to me!

you are correct. But will you be more likely to be able to acquire more food with gold and silver or with paper dollars if things go to heck?

Right now I can buy more dry food and hold that.

Relative to gold, it will be a hedge that will always be trade-able or at least consumable.

Not just rice and beans either, salt spice and oil or a diverse collection of necessities.

I feel food will rise quicker than gold during an economic collapse. It certainly will be in more demand. I expect hyper inflation on all commodities as the dollar fails.

Good plan! I do not disagree with you. I am only emphasizing the time function of money. perhaps you can use food as money. however you need to find someone who wants the same type of food at the same exact time that you have that food to give. With gold, the person you exchange with does not necessarily need to want food at a particular point in time. maybe they want to use the gold as a medium of exchange for other goods. Ultimately though I think we agree more than disagree.

You won't need it as much if you already have what you'd be exchanging for (more often than not). Also if they confiscate gold as they did in the 30's? Or there is anarchy or lawlessness?

You can hold offshore, but even that's no guarantee.

My hedge is for what I know I can use to get through this. I really think it's going to get bad.

If you own a house, consider planting fruit and nut trees. They may take a couple years to mature though.

I would suggest you investigate more before you invest in China. Perhaps read what Mish Shedlock and others have to say on the subject. China has a lot of internal problems which will certainly get worse as our economy worsens. I don't blame you for shying away from US stocks, but foreign stocks may not do a lot better. Personally, I'd feel safer in gold & silver than foreign stocks.

I am NOT allowed to shop at Walmart. Hubby throws a fit. So, I don't. We're keeping Christmas simple this year as well, but then, we always tend to do that. My girls (ages 5 and 6) each get three gifts (representing the gifts of the Magi) and one gift they have to share to use (like a board game). We don't do Santa Claus. Don't second guess yourself, I think you are right. They will paint a pretty picture of the unemployment rate. I also think that there are alot of small businesses that are just holding on till after the Christmas season to shut the doors on their money making operations.

The people in the markets seem to know the numbers are fake...they just don't care. They will make money on good news, bad news, whatever.

They are riding this till they get bucked off. Then they will go short and ride it down.

i suggest buying pvc pipe and caps..you can use them as burial vaults for valuables if confiscation begins.. ..even guns and amo...just make sure you coat weapons with a light coat of grease and wrap in oily rags.,,,
