Placebos work because people "blindly" believe them; thus their belief is at pure level creating the 'outcome'. It is not argued by themself, since they're convinced.

When they are to 'manually' bring about something, their belief may not be at pure level. Because of their conflicting disbelief within; usually resulting in fail.
