  • Joking around with a District Manager with my company his comment on facing. We don't se;; UPCs. My comment technically we do. A UPC= a SKU when a company comes in they ask us how well that SKU of product is selling. So technically we sell sell SKUs and expand out to UPCs.

  • for 1700 i can get a beast of a desktop :P

  • GTX 580M or AMD Radeon HD 6990M?

  • @TheBizzle280 580m testing shows that is slightly better

  • @murcow99 thanks man

  • notbook é pra amador, quem intende jamais gastaria num notbook pra jogos

  • I'm sorry but a mere dual core i5 is going to bottleneck you in a lot of games, the 580m would go to waste. A 570m with a proper i7 seems much more balanced to me than a 580m with a poor i5 dual core...

  • @risanwo do you even know anything about computers? do you know that games only require and USE 1-2 cores? do you know that games do NOT benefit from hyperthreading? do you know that when running games your 3rd and 4th cores in a quad core setup are non-active? do you know how badly this notebook smashes the G74 with a i7 2670qm and gtx 560m? well now you do.

  • @jmb2027 All though you are correct in everything you said there is an exception out there wich is named bf3.Bf3 uses all 4+4 cores of my laptops.I have the gt780dxr with a 570m 1.5gb running at 810mhz(40% overclock). You need a quad core to load your gpu fully in bf3.For most other games especially older ones you need high clock rates.

I personally hate it when a game is not multicore optimized btw. Fucking slopy develovers.

  • @jmb2027 Ofc this laptop is going to outperform the G74 it cost 250$ more, duh. You're still going to get bottlenecked in some cpu intensive games nevertheless.

  • @risanwo you are retarded, the gtx580m is about the same as a normal gtx 560, a hyper threaded dual core is plenty and not going to bottleneck anything. get your facts straight

  • I know what SKU it dammit! lol

  • How are the temps on this compared to the ASUS g53?

  • Lmao dual core. Laptops are fail.

  • Why do they keep ruining the look of their laptops with those damn stickers? You pay 1.7k on a premium product and still they have to get that free advertising? Make it at least easy to take them off without the need to use chemicals?

  • As soon as I saw the size of that thing, I was glad I have my Macbook.

  • when is he going to compare it?....cant find the video...please reply..

  • I found that battlefield 3 struggles with a dual core, was running a e8400 @ 3.8ghz and it just couldnt cope.

  • is this better then asus g53sx?

  • Linus Please Read, i need help.

I'm getting a new gaming rig and i wanted to know what Video Card would go good with this Rig?

Case-Cooler Master HAF x Blue Edition/ Full ATX Case

    PSU-Rosewill Bronze Series, 1000W.

    Motherboard-ASUS P8P67 Deluxe

    CPU- Intel Core i7 2600k

    Heatsink-Cooler Master Hyper N 520

I already have my 8 gb in RAM and enough storage.

I just need help on a graphics card that would go good on this rig, and is my rig going to be good or do you suggest something else?

    Thx Guys

  • @FaLLeNxCiNeMa Go for the i5 2500k, there's no difference between the 2500k and 2600k in gaming performance. Get a GTX 570 video card. Also, don't get Rosewill, they suck at PSU's.

  • @FaLLeNxCiNeMa the i5-2500k is almost the same as the i7 variant. when it comes to gaming, youre better off getting the cheaper 2500k and simply overclock it. the 2600k is a great cpu, but considering you will be gaming, the extra performance in 2600k wont apply to you. as for youre video card and the money you will be saving by getting the 2500k, id recommend a GTX 570 if that fits youre budget. if not the GTX 560 Ti or 6950 are second best considering price vs. performance

  • @KlingonSpider So is the GTX 570 better than the HD 6950 and 6970?

  • @FaLLeNxCiNeMa the gtx 570 is better than the 6950. it's also a little bit better than the 6970. the 6970 is like a small step down from the 570, the two are close in performance, and you prolly wouldnt notice much of a difference regarding FPS, but the gtx 570 still beats it with the CUDA technology with certain video game titles.

  • @KlingonSpider 6970 vs 570 is a coin toss between games. CUDA is not really a selling point for most people. You take a significant hit in performance unless you got an extra card. The 6970 has a slightly lower price most of the time.

In the end it doesn't matter what you pick if you know what you want. Want CUDA or 3D? go green. Want Eyefinity? go red. Don't care about any of that? Pick the cheapest one. You can't really go wrong this generation (last gen already actually :P)

  • @FaLLeNxCiNeMa HD 6970

  • cool

  • GTX580M is based on GF114 (GTX 560 Ti core)

Then yeah, SLI 2 of those 580M gives you the performance over a GTX580 desktop

  • Alrighty Linus, now talk to HP so that they can produce a kick ass Envy. Show us your power.

  • Downgraded , Still MSI going up !

Hope they dont start making Tanks like Asus in any upcomming days !

  • My dad got this computer. Try to push the 'P1' button for boost :)

  • this looks way better than the ASUS plus MSI rock !!! ASUS just sucks

  • "Fascinating..."

    "What is it Mister Spock?"

"I seem to have... turned on the wireless system, sir."

  • The GTX580M is basically a downclocked desktop GTX560Ti and probably the only mobile GPU that delivers satisfactional mobile gaming @ 1080P.

  • Awesome idea linus. I wish more manufacturers did this. love to see some benches

  • Linus, any chance you can benchmark this laptop since it's such a unique combo? I'd like to see how it stacks up with some other similar laptops with quad cores.

  • Remember that the GTX 580M only offers around 65% performance of the desktop 580. You'll need to SLI them to match a normal GTX 580.

  • @CrissBlackHawk if you go sli wouldnt it be better then a normal 580? because it would then be 130% of a gtx 580 wich would make it better lol =D

  • @for818 SLI and crossfirex don't double the performance.

  • @jubjub1114 They kinda do in many games. it's often really close to double performance.

  • @CrissBlackHawk more like less than 50% the 580M is barley better than a GTX 460 (the 1 GB Version)

  • @CrissBlackHawk true but the 15,6 inch monitor supports lower resolutions...

  • My laptop OWNS your desktop...

  • @flowingbass huh? thats still a laptop.... derp

  • @flowingbass to have a laptop that OWNS his desktop would be stupid, it would weigh so much it could only be used as a desktop.

  • Id like to see it run a game, just for a test to see how well they actually run incase i buy one.

  • So, you mean S.K.U

  • @PRODVDi

    obvs, but nobody says S . K . U

    real world, pronnounced like -SKEW-

  • does he want to met the laptop and make it explode all at the same time with this GFX card whilst his wife yells buy me more jewlery and then the baby starts floating in the air?

  • Okay now get ASUS to do the same thing because this thing is ugly!

  • can you customize products on ncix?

  • @twinkie15432 yea that's what I was thinking, thanks a ton for the response.

  • Awesome Linus, this SKU is a great idea!

  • I almost thought it was $17000 lol

  • I remember the days of 16mb of ram...

  • 1700$ bucks..for a laptop.. wow, i can't even afford to get my own computer/laptop!

if i had that much money, i would buy the asus Gaming notebooks.. :/

  • @mhmcripz12 This is a gaming laptop as well :-? Not even say that this one has a better GPU

  • @MYMAnarchy what? don't you think the Asus G73Jw isn't a gaming laptop?

plus, it costs 1000 dollars, and guess what? i can get a one of the best setup for Desktop with 1700 bucks instead of buying this reasonably overpriced laptop

  • @mhmcripz12 Well maybe this is not the best option for you. But it is for some other people. Not all people want a whole desktop but a nice laptop to carry and travel around, well indeed they have to sacrifice performance for portability. That's my point right there

  • @LinusTechTips hey, how has it been carrying your gt683 around with the massive power brick and large width? I have been debating wether I want to go for the power of the Msi laptop or get the portability and in my opinion amazing looks of the razer blade. Any thoughts anyone?

  • @REMIREZZ Personally I would stay away from the Razer Blade. A much as they look sleek and sexy, I'm all about the GPU to be honest. And considering the Razer Blade only has a GT 555m, I personally wouldn't want to shell out that much cash... I would stick with the MSI notebook.

  • Core i5 and GTX580M ?? lol

  • @MYMAnarchy Core i5 is MORE then adequate for gaming, even the dual-core variants.

  • @joytech23 Most of current title (and maybe future ones) can't really benefit from Quad-Core CPUs. I know that right ?

  • @MYMAnarchy Exactly :o I have a laptop with a i5 2410M and it's fairly zippy for virtually everything.

No not for professional applications but for gaming and light video editing it does it's job pretty fast :)

  • @MYMAnarchy Nope. All modern (read: released in 2010 or 2011) can. In fact, even something as old as GTA IV (2008) benefits from quad-core CPUs.

  • can you please tell me how long is the battery life....?

  • Linus, why didn't you use a Win 7 Pro???

  • Lol ur cpu wont keep up with your gpu... is it a 2500k? nvm u said dual core and 2500k is quad..

  • @irockuworld Considering the 580m is about equivalent to a 550 Ti/460, a dual core with hyperthreading is appropriate and will probably not bottleneck the performance by much. So if it's not a 2500k it isn't good? I'm running an i5 2400 and it is a beast.

  • Im thinking about getting a laptop and I might go for this same thing, could you run some tests on TF2 and Teeworlds? (best games ever) thx

    syp

  • @sumyungpunk tf2 will run at more then 100fps on a computer like that... tf2 is not graphics intensive

  • wow!

  • Who wants to game on a 15" screen? You at least want a 17" for gaming...this is, unless by gaming they mean Bejeweled.

  • @MajorRocker74

    That's very ignorant of you.

  • @MajorRocker74 Really? I game on an 11" no problems at all(I have my separate 22" for when I got in on a desk. 17" is nice but I had to get rid of it because it was barely portable for me. 15",14" are the perfect sizes, they're big enough for gaming and portable enough.

  • @viper2131 Point taken. I just think it's too small and I've know a lot of people with 15" laptops make the same complaint. Perhaps it depends on the game and resolution. (I'm a 1920x1080 guy.) I just feel text is too small to make is quickly readable whether is be a chat, item drop/stats, or subtitles. I appreciate your courteous retort and not just saying I'm "very ignorant" as others have.

  • @MajorRocker74 I agree and I thought the same before going from a 17" laptop to a 11" laptop and I was shocked at how fast I got used to the new size. I love a 1080 resolution and to be honest that can only work great in a 15" or 17"+ laptop.

  • I always thought i5 was a quad core as well as i7? Just i7 has a few more tweaks.

  • @andRAWR88 Desktop i5's are quad cores, while desktop i7's are quad cores with hyperthreading. Laptop i5's are dual cores with hyperthreading, while laptop i7's are quad cores.

  • @jubjub1114 Ahhh I'm enlightened, thanks for that.

  • Is he gay ?

  • @NewTRAlLERS He's married (to a women).

  • @NewTRAlLERS No,hes married.

  • Laptop to play is such a big mistake, i've used to play on a laptot and it's heat, not ergonomic at all, better play on a desktop computer. Or buy a console

  • Hi Linus. I am wondering if you will do a unboxing + review on the new Alienware X51 or the Aurora R4.

Thumbs up so he sees this :)

  • @tobjan94 alienware is for faggots

  • @MrAlexkohl1993 Stop hating

  • What? Bitch i want to see games on that!

  • I like my AsusG74sw and suprissingly i like my Asus G73jh-a2 most

  • i got a qosmio for 500 usd with core 2 quad extreme and dual gtx9800m thos that lap is better??? cuz i dont wanna spend 2000 on 20% more performance

  • this is one seriously slick machine.

  • They really need to explain that a mobile GPU is nowhere near equivalent to a desktop GPU. I bet this can't even beat a desktop GTX460

  • @smallpebble7 Actually it probably can. The 580m is the same chip as the 560 TI. It is just clocked slightly lower. So it would probably be about the same as a gtx460

  • Can you get to the CPU HSF as easily as the RAM & HDD ?

  • Not exactly value for money...

  • Lol $1700 for an i5? GTFO

  • @TheC0rpsezilla and a gtx 580.

  • It had better hold 2 hard drives.....look how friggin huge that piece is....you couldn't give me ones of those...it'd be on Craigslist in record time

  • PC gaming laptops = boat anchor!!

  • That cold bug is going around hey Linus? You sound a little sick, get well soon! :D

  • If I'm correct most games don't use hyperthreading (if any)...so by using a i5 dual core...wouldn't you be putting more of a cpu bottleneck? especially since its using a 580m instead now?

  • Canada only?

  • I would rather buy a car... But that is better than my desktop build.

  • Good config, Linus. Though it's too expensive i think. Looking forward to the tests. Hope you post temps and fps on Battlefield 3 and Metro. I also wonder how easy it is to clean the rads. Thanks.

  • Awesome!

  • instead of paying 1700 bucks for a normal high end laptop...you pay....1700 for this one...hmm...wait my budget plan did not work.

  • MSI and Alienware laptops all look good for it's specs and judging by its performance it doesn't disappoint that's for sure but, I'd rather get a Clevo/Sager notebook it's much better priced and you have more options for customization in the future. So if you want my advice get a clevo/sager notebook from your local reseller because it's bang for the buck, Conclusion = Clevo/Sager laptops FTW!

  • one to tree, do u here me?

  • Please do more laptop and desktop and whatever top there is reviews!!!!! Please!!!!

  • What's its clock speed...?

  • nciXCOM! OMG!

  • I don't see how anyone can find this laptop attractive. Specs are great but mother of god, all their laptops are so ugly. Asus too for the most part.

Much rather have (and probably will buy) an HP Envy. Sure it's a Macbook Pro ripoff but the MBP is a beautiful laptop and you get better specs for half the price yet the nice look as well. Some dells and lenovos are great looking too. Thick as hell, cheap as hell, plastic as you can get laptops need to die.

  • @StealthGhost You can't find any high end video card in a Mac. Max is 6770m, and I can get a laptop with that for $700. Mac's have a nice aesthetic, but their performance and UI is really sub-par for the price you pay.

  • @jubjub1114 Yeah I totally agree which is why I said you can get Apple look for a lot less with better specs, 7690M in the HP Envy 15. TBH looks and battery life mean a lot more to me then being able to play everything on max so I'd buy an Apple before I bought an MSI/Asus. I'd buy a HP/Dell(cringe)/Lenovo before Apple though.

  • nice job linus !!

  • You see, if I'm out and about and want to play a game, I'd rather play a couple of little games on my iPhone, I can live without FPS games for a little while

  • i got msi gt660, very good laptop

  • Ur tryin to hide ur gum but you cant hide it from me linus.! ^^

  • I've used a ASUS RoG N73 (I think) with a quad core i7, 16GB of RAM & two HDD's. Really did seem like a waste of money with just a GTX 560M along with a full HD screen.

  • i would never buy that with a dual core cpu...such a bottleneck for that 580m

  • quad core down to a duel core WILL effect some games, especially new games and games that are to come

  • Ring on finger :D

  • i dont think it was a good idea...that is so expensive..

  • "I never talk about prices" BTW its $1800! :(

  • How did Linus tell MSI to change their SKU design, doesn't MSI have someone to redesign any thing that is needed on any of there products?

  • linus where you get your key-chain pocket knife?

  • did he just said sub 2000$ ? holly molly ...i stick to my desktop

  • @sofatayra I agree.

  • @sofatayra amen brother!!!

  • Well done Linus!! I have always looked for a similar SKU in a gaming notebook but of course have never found one. I am interested to see the tests but this notebooks gaming performance should be admirable. Next time I upgrade my gaming notebook I will have to get a Custom Linus SKU.

  • Compare it to the alienware m14x or m18x

  • @elchulo17268 asus gx74 all the way... :D

  • why do I get a cheaper price when I build this laptop @ xoticPC ? lol ....

  • really wished they used a dual core i7 2,8ghz model instead of the i5 -_-

  • i really preffer an alienware! just the best in gaming

  • @girlskiller16 And crap that breaks, I had an M17x loaded but after 4 returns, I said FUCK it.

  • why would u call this a stock keeping unit???

  • That god damm huge laptop is not portableb at all. So it should be considered as desktop cuz it will stay on your desk forever. However why dont you buy a desktop with better specs for even cheaper price?? Why??

  • @ssrjjg92 meaby you travel a lot and you want to be able to play video games..

  • @ssrjjg92 I agree. Who would carry these massive things around with them? Not just the weight, but the footprint of that thing + AC pack is insane. 7.7 pounds!

  • @grambo22 It's only like 8 pounds, stop being a pussy about it. You can't get performance, portability, and lightweight all in one laptop.

  • @jubjub1114 yes u can, one word m14x, i got one.

  • @ssrjjg92 i have a friend with the 17" one, he's all ways moving it around. he's a strange guy, he was a console gamer for a long time so he only likes playing games on the couch, he sits on the couch with it on a lap-table playing skyrim. i asked him why and he sed sitting at a table is to up righty, wtf to that. any way its a hell of a lot easer to move then a desktop. he needs it for work to, so getting a bigger more powerful laptop was killing to birds with one stone.

  • @ssrjjg92 because some people seem to be incapable of living without fps games for a little while

  • how much is it ???????????

  • @MSVHYBRIDZ like $1800

  • @TheDivNiv $1,699.99 web deal at NCIX you just got too look for it.

  • beautiful.......

  • But can it run Crysis?

  • @thefuf99 it can :) at 1080p and with everything maxed out you will get 40-50 average fps !!

  • Wow, that's some power, to have a company build a custom request. Time for that female robot. Make it so Linus. Unbox that.

  • is there any model from msi that have i7 with gtx580?? memory or storage won't matter cause obviously that u can change and for sure a machine of that magnitude will mostly for sure be fully loaded, so just wondering is there was a model with an i7 and gtx580?? cause the max i have seen is an i7 but with gtx570

  • yeah! You just unbox another box to unbox..hahahaha

  • where the laptop going after you unboxing it?

  • @buzz9961 He sells it.

  • Bet that thing turns your lap into bacon

  • @supremeamerican retard

  • i like msi but i dont really like gaming on a laptop i like desktops more since you dont have to worry about battery life and the heat of the keyboard
