Why is the director waving her arms? You never direct a jazz band. Kick them off with a metronome click and let them play. Cue only the important parts. No directing needed in jazz band, just a distraction to the players and audience.

Well, I played this in my band, and not in Jazz band, so our director waved his arms...yeah. :)
