(1) We are a different denomination. But by your standard, that does not make us "non-christian" by being such, no more than Catholics, baptists, Methodists are of differing denominations.

Granted, it's a song, but digression usually starts at small points and builds. And like it, the way back begins in small places. God exists! And He revealed Himself to us as Father, Son and Holy Spirit.
@stan13143 The Trinity is a mystery that we in our finite human minds would never fully understand on this side of eternity. But part of a loving relationship is accepting a person as they are, and "Trinity" is what God is. I don't fully understand it, but I accept Him and trust Him and adore Him. Anything less is molding God into something other than who and what He is, and at that point, one has to ask what he/she is really worshiping.

HE was there loving every children and comforting every parents and loved ones who loss an angel in Haiti. I am a born christian.I have the read the bible and has been nurtured the good christian way.So has many who have posted.My question is simple,take 9/11 for example.Innocent people died for causes unknown to them.At the last moment of their lives they may have cried out to God.Why didint he answer and save them?If he is unable to protect you in your time of need then why call him God.My faith in God has started to shake.I am doubting his existance.

They did a beautiful job with this song, but the song was written with a very Trinity-focused orientation. As much as I love the intent of this choir singing this song, it's simply not in good spirit with the song's intent. It's a totally different song with those omissions.
I'm Lutheran and don't care if the Mormons sing it with a few different words. Whether it is sung by the Mormon Tabernacle Choir or St. Olaf's Choir, it's a beautiful song of praise.

I happen to be Mormon, and I love this song and the choir that performs it. If some of the comments in this thread are in fact made by "true Christians," then they honor me with their affirmation that I am not one myself, and I hope I never lower myself to the indignity of deserving that label. Since the Mormons do not believe that Jesus is God Incarnate and the Son of the Father (equal to God), they felt they had to change this phrase.

I really don't know why alot of people are fighting over Jesus,God,or eternal life. Jesus stated himself that He is the son of men who comes to this world to die for our sins. And he repeatedly refer to The Lord above as his Loving Father. When he was on the mountain,a voice in a cloud said," This is my son." We sang this beautiful song today at Mass on Trinity Sunday. We might not have sung it as beautifully as the Mormon Tabernacle Choir, but we sang it the way it was meant to be sung. Read Reginald Heber's lyrics; he did not leave it open to "interpretation."
Everything is left open to interpretation, despite the writer's intentions. Think about it, is any human even capable of 100% understanding an author's intent? The answer is no because we aren't capable of mind-reading.
In other words, there will be interpretation whether it is intentional or not. The nature of art and music transcends the meaning of individual lyrics.

Jesus was there at Creation. Jesus is the "WORD". "In the beginning was the WORD and the WORD was God and was with God." Jesus has always been part of the Trinity that is GOD. Father, Son, Holy Spirit - 3 parts that make 1 God. Jesus became flesh and came to earth to dwell with us (Emmanual means God With Us) when He allowed Himself to be supernaturally born to a virgin. He didn't start to exist when he was born as a human thast was and is God. He already existed.

There is no question that this is the best version on Youtube, but we did not need it to be "interpreted" by the Mormon Tabernacle Choir, great as it is. This hymn was written Reginald Heber in the 1800s, specifically for use on Trinity Sunday. The lyrics about the Holy Trinity are particularly specific and again, need no interpretation.

Now that I know it was written by a Mormon, I have a new found respect for them, b/c whoever wrote this wrote a masterpiece. And you could sing this in any Christian church by way of it's lyrics. (1) We are a different denomination. But by your standard, that does not make us "non-christian" by being such, no more than Catholics, baptists, Methodists are of differing denominations.

But part of a loving relationship is accepting a person as they are, and "Trinity" is what God is. I don't fully understand it, but I accept Him and trust Him and adore Him. HE was there loving every children and comforting every parents and loved ones who loss an angel in Haiti. HE was there feeling the cries of those 4.5M babies, while trying to comfort each mother that HE still loves them no matter what. They did a beautiful job with this song, but the song was written with a very Trinity-focused orientation. As much as I love the intent of this choir singing this song, it's simply not in good spirit with the song's intent. It's a totally different song with those omissions.

I happen to be Mormon, and I love this song and the choir that performs it. If some of the comments in this thread are in fact made by "true Christians," then they honor me with their affirmation that I am not one myself, and I hope I never lower myself to the indignity of deserving that label. I think such individuals miss out on much of the point of what the teachings of Christ, with their emphasis on love and tolerance and such, were all about.

Since the Mormons do not believe that Jesus is God Incarnate and the Son of the Father (equal to God), they felt they had to change this phrase.
This cult has deceived millions of people by singing familiar songs and changing a few words to mold the song into something acceptable to them. Although I greatly admire the talent and beautiful singing of the Mormon Tabernacle Choir, I always am cautious of their theology where they insert false words.

I really don't know why alot of people are fighting over Jesus,God,or eternal life. Jesus stated himself that He is the son of men who comes to this world to die for our sins. And he repeatedly refer to The Lord above as his Loving Father. When he was on the mountain,a voice in a cloud said," This is my son." He is our path to heaven if we believe in him meaning we would follow into his footsteps. Preach about God's love and love one another and keep in faith because He will return.God bless

Revelation 1:8 & 22:12-21. See the problem mormons are having is they think satan & Jesus Christ are BROTHERS. God created satan & they think God created Jesus, which of course, He didn't. We were created as eternal beings the only question is where you spend it. We sang this beautiful song today at Mass on Trinity Sunday. We might not have sung it as beautifully as the Mormon Tabernacle Choir, but we sang it the way it was meant to be sung. Read Reginald Heber's lyrics; he did not leave it open to "interpretation."

Everything is left open to interpretation, despite the writer's intentions. Think about it, is any human even capable of 100% understanding an author's intent? The answer is no because we aren't capable of mind-reading.
In other words, there will be interpretation whether it is intentional or not. The nature of art and music transcends the meaning of individual lyrics.

I am an ELCA Lutheran from South Carolina. I play the piano and organ. Today (June 19, The Holy Trinity), we sang this as the closing hymn. I played it as the opening hymn at a local Lutheran Church that I filled in at today. It is #413 in Evangelical Lutheran Worship.

Jesus was there at Creation. Jesus is the "WORD". "In the beginning was the WORD and the WORD was God and was with God." Jesus has always been part of the Trinity that is GOD. Father, Son, Holy Spirit - 3 parts that make 1 God. Jesus became flesh and came to earth to dwell with us (Emmanual means God With Us) when He allowed Himself to be supernaturally born to a virgin. There is no question that this is the best version on Youtube, but we did not need it to be "interpreted" by the Mormon Tabernacle Choir, great as it is. This hymn was written Reginald Heber in the 1800s, specifically for use on Trinity Sunday. The lyrics about the Holy Trinity are particularly specific and again, need no interpretation.
