  • there´re some parts of paraguayan music that foreigns can not reach

  • very nice one

    tnx

  • My friend David i will see you very soon.

Viva Mangore!

  • PLEASE CHECK MY VIDEOS!!!!

  • Good music bad quality video try this one "Pat Coldrick Danza Paraguaya" wonderful piece of guitar if only you could here it

  • graaande

  • PS You look good in a tuxedo too!

  • Hey Dave, I see you have quite a few fans on you tube. You are very good. but you look really different then the other picture on your other profile. This is hanging in there. You really are into classical music. Take Care.

    Hangin in there.

  • There are composers and there are guitar composers. Main stream composers who do not know the guitar inside out will not be able to compose very well. Barrios is an excellent composer and literally knows the guitar and everything about, inside out.

  • True, and then you have arrangers who are able to take compositions written for piano and violin for example and adapt those to guitar quite well. Sor's Variations on a Theme by Mozart is one example. Also, guitarists are given creative freedom to improvise and interpret so in the final analysis, I'm not so sure there is a difference. One exception might be Terrega's Gran Jota where the guitar mimics a snare drum, harp, etc. One thing certain though, is that Barrios was a gifted composer.

  • Sor's variations on a theme by Mozart is NOT one example.

  • what about say.. de falla's Pour le tombeau de Claude Debussy? easily one of the most important guitar pieces ever written whilst you cannot say he is a guitar composer because he never wrote any other works for the guitar (to my knowledge anyway)

The reason why composers who arent guitarists rarely write guitar works is because they bring them less recognition and the guitar is often not considered a " concert instrument" (yeah, i know.. as if its not :P)

  • and of course, nocturnal. I think one of the cornerstones of the whole rep. But yah it's a pity about the recognition. It's up to people like you and me bro!

  • @BFGUITAR

I have to massively disagree with that statement. What about Rodrigo? or Smith Brindle? Or Britten?

  • @jakesplanet Did they not get a lot of help from accomplished guitarists for their compositions? I know Britten did for sure.

  • I am Paraguayan, and I think Russell in this video "got it". He now got the feeling, because on his cd of barrios music it wasn't paraguayan music, even he said that he's not proud of that recording. But now, I aprove his performance of paraguayan music. As always, superlative! (My friends will hate me, but I think Russell plays this piece better than Berta Rojas)

  • jajajaja ¡Una blasfemia! ¡al paredón! Listo. Apunte. ¡FUEGO! :)

  • Barrios is a genial composer. This is one of the most beautiful things I have ever heard.

  • muy buena interpretacion

    de el maestro russel

ademas tiene diferente interpretacion q los demas

    para estar a esa velocidad

    lo toca muy perfecto

  • Danza Paraguaya no. 1 (1 vercion y 2 vercion)

Danza Paraguaya no. 2 (Jha Che Valle!)

Danza Paraguaya no. 3 (London Carape)

  • John Williams has the most beautisul version of Recuerdos de la Alhambra i have ever heard. He plays Sueno en la Floresta amazing

  • I have a recording of Alirio Diaz playing it around this speed, faster in places, in his inimitable flamboyant style- going for it but beautifully expressive. But the Barrios recording of it (1928) is slightly slower. Both sound wicked and I like Russell's version too, it's certainly not too fast - for him! A better recording would do it justice..

  • This is the right time. The composition is based on the paraguayan polca (the main

"paraguayan dance" style). The paraguayan polca time is very fast. Search the "Pajaro Campana" on the interpretation of the "Trio Pentagrama".

    Regards from Asunción, Paraguay.

  • Alirio Diaz?? Have you heard him play Recuerdos De La Alhambra? He's in a hurry. It's gross.

  • I'm used to hearing this at a slighly slower tempo. He's a great guitarist, no doubt about it but, he rushed this piece a bit, I think.

  • it´s a latinamerican piece.

it should be played "agil" ( sorry i don´t know haw to translate this word) and let it breath between phrases.

    I think so

  • I know it's Latin American. Agil just means agile in English. Honestly, it's hard to really put my finger on why I feel he rushed through it. The man's obviously a great guitarist and, from what I've learned, he has done lots of work on Barrios' pieces. I like his rendition of Jha Che Valle, in fact. This one, though, seemed to me like he was trying to hurry up and get done with it. Maybe I'm just used to hearing it a smidge slower and it's prejudiced me, I dunno.

  • that is actualy true manuel has things in common with russell...

  • david and manuel are both gods !!!!! so why compare ???

the sound quality is horrible, true.. but the magic is elsewhere....

  • i think that if this gentleman enjoys music, how can he stand such a bad recording !!!!

  • first: this is not floklore but classical music 2nd how can you compare the whole time things.... so boring, just enjoy! you can't even play 10 notes of what he's playing so?

  • Funny... I heard Manuel Barrueco play this same piece at almost the same tempo as David Russell play it here. Is Barrueco a "gringo" too?

  • I can hear the melody just fine, though I'll agree that the video and sound quality are less than desirable. Be careful blaspheming Maestro Barrueco, or you'll anger the guitar gods.

  • well i'll try my best

  • He is one of the best guitarrist!!!

  • so difficult piece played with such elegant hands, russell is certainly the guitarist post bream and williams....bravo!

  • Excellent!!!!

  • Pobre Agustin Pio Barrios

  • Not bad, but i've been hearding more colourful arrangings

  • the best edition i have ever heard

  • difficult it is to play it by yourself.

  • It is difficult to stretch your left hand unless you have

lon fingers and big hand!!!! Bravo Dave!!!!

  • barrios made an arrangement of this piece for 2 guitars, if that gives you any idea of how difficult it is to play it by yourself.

  • Well russell is one of the best in the world, no doubt.

  • guauuu increible!!!

    nunca lo habia visto

    grettings!!

    Great!!

    camilo
