@qbeam "Grand Theft" Youtube, I guess....sorry to hear about your videos. I never had any interest in profiting, and yet Youtube wants to advertise on it anyway.
@satansstepfather really? you really have to turn Sesame Street into an opportunity for conservative political comment? you sure you're not an american?
I was thinking the same thing. Maybe this was the last skit Lefty was on since he got arrested in this skit which could be another reason why the audience doesn't see him anymore on skits trying to sell something to Ernie. (I know that Lefty was in one skit with Lord Chatterly).
'Put it in a tan truck...and take it to Horace!' Though those lines don't rhyme with 'AN,' they are the lines that are stuck in my mind the most. Man, what memories!
This entire skit was just plain be-you-tee-ful. From the jazzy, crime-show opening theme, to the dim and grimy alley where the deal goes down... The way Nelson, Oz, and Henson voice their characters... Even the way the segment is shot is awesome - it's all perfect. I'm blown away by the attention to detail. They just don't make 'em like the used to, I tell ya.
I havent seen this in over 30 years .God bless free to air public t.v. Thanks for posting. I've been searching for this for months. One of my favorites as a child!

Thanks for posting this, I was looking for it the other day, but the only thing I remembered about the clip was that there was a 'van' in it, so I searched 'sesame street van' but I just go a lot of Dutch Sesame St. clips- LOL! I finally found it when I thought to search 'an' instead. This was one of my favorite segments when I was a kid- I guess the music and the night atmosphere made an impression on me.
Funny thing is, when I was a girl I didn't know that "the can" was slang for "jail"...I pictured Officer Stan and some backup cops, stuffing the thieves into Oscar's trash can as punishment!
That was a good line. I guess Lefty was sad to have gotten arrested but, he probably didn't have to be too sad since he would be released out of jail (the can) in 10 days, and 10 days is not too long.
That's right. After he was released, he just went back to selling things for, oh, say a nickel?
I know he tried to sell an E for eight dollars in the Sesame Street Dictionary. As Ernie puts it, that's too expensive. And I agree, especially since that's not the usual amount Lefty offers.
Yes that's right. Lefty sold stolen items to Ernie for a nickel (I think it was in every Ernie and Lefty skit that the items costed a nickel).
Also, I never saw in the Sesame Street Dictionary that he sold an "E" for eight dollars (maybe he said that because, "eight" starts with "E"). Ernie is also right that it was very expensive (usually, I thought it would cost under four dollars since in stores that I go to, if they sell letters and numbers, they're always under four dollars).
'I want to you to take the golden an in the tan van. to take it to dan who gives it to fran. thats the plan.'
'My name is Stan. I'm the man. For stealing the golden an, you get 10 days in the can.'
LOLZ!! :D

Did "Dan" get "Fran" a Golden "FR"? And is that why the street salesman has to give the Golden "AN" to Dan who would take it to Fran?

Jerry Nelson played Big Blue, Actor/Director Frank Oz played Lefty, and of course, the late Jim Henson played the police patrolman.
