What is interesting is that the US and Israel take hostages all the time. This was done in Iraq (arresting family members of insurgent leaders as negotiating tools). Likewise in Israel anyone affiliated with Hamas can be arrested and detained for usage as a bargaining tool to release IDF soldiers. I think however he nailed the question of terrorism on the head by addressing terrorism as basically who decides what is and what is not defined as "legitimate violence".
