Wish that helicopter would have buzzed off and not interfered with the sound, or set up a remote camera to record sound and video 1 mile away. This was filmed about 1.5 miles away from the 8 second sound delay.

Wonder what it's like to be on the recieving end of a 600ft flame! I bet what ever does encounter it never looks the same afterwards! Especially with kind of power! I can just imagine what it was like in the Apollo days! KICK ASS!

I read the temperatures are estimated at 5,200 Fahrenheit.

That's crazy! Well if the heat alone doesn't kill you the sound waves sure will! I read in a book that the flame deflector is 4 stories tall and covered with fire proof brick and the power of the blast alone is enough to take about 1/2'' of material off! Yeah it's going to be sad to see the Shuttle go but she sure did have an amazing flying career. Long live the Shuttle!

Yes and keep in mind this is jut ONE of the two SRBs. My understanding is at the space shuttle launch pad itself they have estimated if you are within 500 feet the heat would kill you and within 800-1,000 feet the soundwaves could knock you out or even kill. Fortunately, everyone save the armored rescue crew (1 mile) is 3 miles away at least, despite what you might read elsewhere on You Tube.

Yeah Youtube can be quite weird at times. And yes most people should get their facts straight before posting stuff! Space exploration is pretty cool if you ask me?

@RJY4356 Within a half-mile the concussive force of the thrust will stop your heart. I was at the launch of STS-132 in May 2010, and the weather conditions were just right to where we could feel the heat of the SRBs from three miles away at the press area. Phenomenal!
