  • Dang I forgot I don't have holidays

  • Great cover - moves right along

  • This was BRILLIANT and funny and clever. You guys sound wonderful together. Beautiful voices! I wish you would do this again with better sound quality, the lyrics where hard to catch. But so great.

    Thank you.

  • I was looking for The Agnostic Mountain Gospel Choir, an amazing band, when I came across this. Fraking brilliant!!!

  • Damn fine song!!!

  • I just put up a song andwondered if I could find anything like it. This is great, acctually made me happier by the end. I never realized until I searched for "agnostic song" just how messed up I must really be. My song is quite depressing comparatively.

  • very cool, I watch too much youtube and this my be my favorite find yet.

  • guy in the back will scare me forever

  • @Century21digitalBoi Just wait till you wake up at 4 in the morning and find me at the foot of your bed staring at you...and counting your toes...THERE SEEM TO BE A FEW MISSING.... Muahahahahahahahahahaha

  • Sweet job!

  • You should write a comedy album. Even if you weren't signed and just recorded a set of 14 songs on to a blank CD with sharpie labels, I would buy one. : )

  • This song just makes me happy! :D

  • awesome, well done

  • This is great!

  • LYRICS PLEASE

  • I love how the guy in the back is trying so hard to keep a straight face. Well done.

  • Great. Well done. And I loved your comment replies.

  • woah this is awesome!

  • randomly came across this. it's fucking great. thanks!

  • Many thanks!

  • Didn't know this conversation had been going on for two years --- just read it for the first time. I feel positively subversive!

Thanks to all of you for your compliments about the song...Also: Thanks to Ray Wiley Hubbard, from whom I stole the original premise (he used to do a comedy bit where he talked about "songs that are impossible to write"...an "agnostic gospel song" being one of the examples he cited). Thanks also to Henny Youngman from whom I stole the joke at the end of the song.

    -Andy

  • Andy, it was great to see you at the recent Limeliters show! You sounded great as always!!

  • Great, but I'll abstain from the logical positivism.

  • i love this song!

  • You're an agnostic atheist, not an agnostic. Eventually, the word "agnostic" becomes irrelevant, considering Gnostic Atheists claim "There cannot be a God," and that just isn't true.

Pure agnosticism is another word for apathy. It kind of doesn't exist.

  • Actually, we're two singers doing a cover version of somebody else's song, which you'd know if you read the "More Info" box. But even those who sing their own compositions do not always convey truth in their lyrics. It might surprise you to learn, for example, that Johnny Cash did not really kill a man in Reno just to watch him die. Using ignorance to enlighten is the ultimate path to irrelevancy.

  • PWNED.

    Tell 'em, Joan and/or Brett.

  • Was the belittling tone necessary to convey that you don't personally believe in the song you covered, because I didn't think that's an ignorant assumption to make at all. If I uploaded myself singing an old gospel tune, I think quite a few people would make the assumption that I'm religious. How stupid would they be though, right?

  • Not nearly as stupid as you?

  • Wow, that's pretty rude. Do you like insulting the people that watch your videos?

  • Only the exceptionally dim ones.

  • Lets recap:

I assumed you believe the lyrics to a song you covered and iterated a point about agnosticism that I feel passionately about. You assumed I didn't know it was a cover, so you proceeded to call me names.

(Sorry if you felt attacked or I offended you, not my intentions.)

Did I miss anything, or is your knee-jerk reaction to all online correspondence overbearing arrogance?

I was going to leave this, but you're an adult. "We don't identify as agnostics" would've been fine.

  • "t might surprise you to learn, for example, that Johnny Cash did not really kill a man in Reno just to watch him die. "

My innocence is lost forever. :(

  • Really, the Statement there cannot be a god, isnt true ?

And you can provide evidence for that right ?

Im a gnostic Atheist, I KNOW THERE IS NO GOD, I dont pussyfoot around and prove there is no god, never has been and never will be all the time

Stop by the DEBATE FAITH chatroom in stickam and find out yourself BSG

  • You can't possibly know that there isn't a god. There is no proof of such, and it's scientifically devoid to make that claim, similar to Christians. It's perfectly valid to claim that none of mankind's images of God are accurate, or that the hypothetical possibility of a God-like being is unlikely, but to completely rule out any such chance is patently arrogant. I consistently mention that the day we discover a god-like being, people will try to say atheists were wrong, instead of accurate.

  • This made me smile and laugh, especially the part about us not having any holidays! Perhaps we should fix that. I claim Thanksgiving.

Lovely job, and very pleasant voices!

  • Duuuuuude.

Andy Corwin was in The Foremen, right?

I didn't know he went solo. That so awesome.

  • Right, the Foremen. He went solo briefly, but this song was officially recorded by his "duet" group, Actual Size.

  • Pretty rad!!!

    ;)

  • I'm a Christian, but this song is pure genius.

  • The song was written by Andy Corwin and yes, it's a great song. Andy's version is up on YouTube now, too, so you can check it out. (And, btw, I've got nothing against Christians.) Thanks for your nice comment!

  • Dialectical Materialism!

Has anybody else ever written a song with that phrase in it?

    Woo hoo!

  • Audacity is a free download

You can record any audio played through your computer

Search "audacity tutorial" in Youtube for help

  • Does anyone know where i can download an mp3 version of this song?

  • If you're talking about our live cover, there is no mp3. Although I suppose I could make one... :)

  • Either live or this one would work.If you would make an mp3 version i would be very greatful.I just think you work is amazing and would like to listen to it when i workout or go for a jog.

  • You can download an MP3 of Andy Corwin's version at Amazon. (Andy Corwin is the guy who wrote the song.) You can also find a YouTube video of Andy performing the song live with his partner Steve Goodie at the Kerrville Folk Festival.

I'm flattered that you like Brett's and my version! Thanks for the compliment! We had fun doing it.

  • Well is his version as good as yours and brett's?If so i will defeintley be downloading his song. Thanks for pointing me in the right driecition. You and Brett keep up the good work.

  • Well, if you're wondering if you'll like Andy's version, you can sample about 30 seconds of his version on Amazon before deciding whether to buy the MP3. (It's only 99 cents. And you'll be supporting the songwriter, which is always a good thing to do.)

Thanks for the encouragement. Brett and I should do more recording. (It's just a matter of finding the time.)

  • Great song. I only wish Brett had sang harmony a little more often.

  • Don't worry.....I am secretly planning my harmonic revenge. :)

  • Haha, this cracked me up.

    Good Job!

  • You guys are awesome, and always crack me up!

  • nice change in tempo, good song all in all! *****5stars

  • ha ha ha BRILLIANT!

  • We could debate forever about "god" and still we not know for sure and we would have wasted our lives. So let us look at what we do know. Firstly we have life and life is precious. Secondly one day we will die. So I have a question for you. WHAT ARE YOU GOING TO DO WITH THE DAYS YOU HAVE LEFT? Send me a reply

  • Whatever I feel like. :D

  • Great tune. Agnostics rock!

  • This is awesome. Love and peace.

  • I love this song! My church choir sang this today during a sermon titled "The Courage to say 'I Don't Know'." on Agnosticism. I googled it as soon as I got home. :)

  • Your church choir sang this?! You must attend a very cool and open minded church! I'll have to let Andy Corwin (the songwriter) know!

  • Yes, it is very cool and open-minded as most UU churches are. Haha! :)

They sang the back-up part too. :)

  • absolutely fantastic!

  • haha! amazing song!

  • Please post the lyrics!

  • Google "andy corwin" agnostic Schopenhauer

and you should find several links to the lyrics.

  • Thanx!

  • Thanks for putting this song together. I am currently starting each morning with listening to it and then singing it throughout the day. Just makes my day go a little better. Not to mention after I showed it to my wife the other day I was actually able to get her into a discussion about Schrodinger's cat, a Schrodingers cat definite step forward. Thanks

  • That guy blinks like twice in the whole 2 and a half minutes of the vidjo.

  • the best song of atheism/agnostic so far i think

  • wonderful stuff

  • Putting religion and debates about god to one side I have a question for you. Right now you have life. Life is precious. One day you will die. So the question is what are you going to do with the days you have left? Send me a reply?

  • heh, pritty good.

  • Great song, and terrific presentation. I would have like it better, though, if Brett would have sang harmony more often.

  • LOVE THE SONG! We are not athiest without balls...we are respectful and understanding of all religions, but we choice not to partake in them.

  • Just great!!

  • Excellant!!

  • what a couple of stereotypical liberals

  • an agnostic is just an atheist without balls

  • That was nice :-).

They should make philosophy compulsory in school.

  • could you put the lirics ,my english is only enough to read

  • The lyrics are on Steve Goodie's website. YouTube won't let me put the URL in a comment, but you can find it by Googling "steve goodie" "but you won't find me on board" -- and then scroll down to "An Agnostic Gospel Song." Hope that helps!

  • interesting

  • that man scares me.

  • BRAVO! LOL!

  • catchy tune

  • Agnostics aren't sure, which means they lack faith, which means they're atheists. "Agnostic" is simply a term that gives cover to those who aren't comfortable acknowledging their lack of faith. The proper term for such people is negative atheist. Claiming you "know" there isn't a god is just as silly as claiming you "know" there is one. You're misusing "know" when "believe" is what you really mean.

  • Fuzzy logic. A platypus lays eggs, which means it's a bird.

  • Jesus is not religious nor is he a Christian. The only agenda of Satan is to keep you from reading The Bible under your own influence. Science and Religious dogma alike are used to keep you from searching for The Kingdom of Heaven on Earth. Satan hides it well.

  • more more more!!! good job!

  • Ha! That made my day. :)

  • Very funny. I love it!

  • love the song i believe that cool video

  • Haha, that had me rolling!

  • Funny Video. I got a great idea for a bumper sticker, "God Doesn't Believe in Athiest, And He Is Not So Sure About Agnostics".

  • Whether you are an atheist agnostic or theist, I think that the ultimate wisdom is that nothing is really "ours", and that everything is subject to change, at any time.

  • Is this the First Church of Agnostics? because i found one already, but its black, its way better niggah!!

  • This is fantastic! Thanks for sharing your talents. :D

  • For a sequel you could pander to us squishy folks who can't quite choose between atheism and theism and end up as deists. And if you could throw Spinoza in there somewhere that would be really cool. Write on, kids!

  • In other words, a Falco sendup..."I'm a deist I'm a DEist...I'm a deist, I'm a deist I'm a DEist...Rock me, I'm a deist...

  • Ah that would explain why you guys did not eat a live baby then. :P btw I dont say there is defaintly no god either, just do to what I feel is a lack of evidence I lean so far to the no god side to say I am not an atheist feels like a lie. All it is, is a lack of belief. Is Brett your husband? I wish my gf and I would do stuff like that! So awesome that you play the guitar as well.

  • Brett and I are just good friends who met through a Randy Newman internet discussion group. We started doing these YouTube videos because of Roy Zimmerman, who invited people to record and post their own versions of his song "Defenders of Marriage." We had so much fun doing that, that we decided to try recording more songs, including some of Brett's originals. We want to do more as soon as we get a chance to practice and record. It's fun! Maybe you can convince your gf to give it a try!

  • That was fucking awesome, you two rule! Talented atheists who managed to not kill rape and or eat a baby during the taping, hopefully some Christians see this and realize that people like us do exist. And hey, we are not so bad. Who would have guessed?

    5 stars

  • Thanks for the nice compliments and the nice rating! Just to clarify, I don't consider myself an atheist, but an agnostic. (Far be it from me to say with certainty whether there's a God or not.) Brett and I just did the song for fun. Please note that the clever song was written by Andy Corwin, a very talented musician who is currently in the Limeliters. He recorded this song with his music/comedy duo called "actual size," and it's on their CD called "Measuring Up."

  • Actually, it isn't necessary to be "100%" certain, that's just one of the misconceptions about atheism. You need only to lack a belief in a god, whether it's 'cause you're waiting for evidence(implicit/agnostic atheism) or...

  • ...'cause you think all we've learned points towards there not being a god(explicit/assertive atheism). They're not mutually exclusive, one deals with knowledge, the other with belief(unless we're talking about "Huxlean" agnosticism, but I'll shut up now). I loved this vid and "Defenders" too. ^_^

  • very cool!!!

  • nice one

  • whatever

  • Hahah I love this song, awesome <3

Any chance you guys are gonna post any more songs like this soon?

  • Good Stuff! Gospel I could actually listen to.

  • [clap clap clap]

  • That was great...take a bow..hahaha
