  • You should put the dumbbell on the ground before each rep, otherwise it is not a deadlift. Otherwise, good video.

  • @xMcKAYz i looked up a video for dumbbell squats and it looks like the guy does the exact same thing, and yet the workout schedule im using specifies them as 2 different things that should be done in seperate workouts. i dont quite get it

  • @eviltube1111 I'm not expert so don't quote me on this, but you'll notice he is holding the dumbbells more to the side rather than in front. Actually, here is a video that explains the differences between deadlifts and squats...also covers the advantages of deadlifts and things of that nature.

  • Pretty awesome videos you have here Scott... I am a PT myself over in the UK and I just thought your videos are good to pass on to my clients when I don't get to see them in the gym.... FUNDIMENTALS !!!! And for you lot who question as to why dumbbells and not a bar or whatever... Not everyone wants to lift incorrectly or the same way for them (the individual)... its called PERIODIZATION and PROGRESSION...It doesn't matter how much you weigh or what you lift - 9/10 youre doing it wrong anyway!

  • If you look at the exercise it really looks like a 1 way ticket to snap city if you use too much weight. because you not using any muscle you using mostly you joints.

  • @LuPe8240 Yes it does look a lot like a dumbbell squat, in my experience (since I practice at home,and only have dumbbells) the difference between the two exercises is: For DB squats the weights should be more to the side, and your back should not be leaning forward as much - for DB deadlift the weights go as in this video - more forward and to the side, and back leans a bit more forward, too. Try doing these and you'll feel clear difference in your lower and middle back for sure.

  • @liiqweed you might aswell say that the standard deadlift is a bad exercise (its one of the best). this actually applies LESS stress on the spine

  • @stinkbra applies less stress on the spine? if you have a fucked up back you shouldn't even think about deadlifting... especially with dumbbells, in this case very heavy dumbbells, cause we all know light weights can't build you a muscular back ;)

    oh and the standard deadlift is the king of fuckin.. king.. foundation movement.. compound you know.. :)

  • @ScottHermanFitness actually Scott, you did the exercise wrong. i've never seen a deadlift performed like this, and there isn't a single athletic trainer that would ever recommend this lift. All you did was simply simulated a barbell deadlift without a barbell, which is a lift that isn't recommended to anyone. The only way to deadlift is with a hex bar of trap bar. So, when you dead lift with dumbbells you should perform single leg suit case deadlifts. far superior exercise

I personally dont do deadlifts, for the same reason as the twins but I dont look down upon people who do them. I always laugh whenever they say back snaps, clever dudes hahaha.
