@Ineedthat06 Strug was actually ranked #1 int he qualification round plus Dawes wasn't even in the event finals at first she took Strug's place and it really doesn't matter with difficulty because Execution is really important to I'm not saying that Kerri would of won all I said was it would of been a closer competition if she was healthy....

@liljayyo1 thats ONLY because Lilia went out of bounds and you cant compare team competitions with event finals and all around because less difficulty is required with teams... and team finals are big on building scores rather than start values. If Kerri wasnt the last girl on floor for the team competition she would not have got those big numbers

Well.. let me ammend. If you believe the rumors, that when you compete in America, americans get a bump in scoring, there would've been a chance. But I always believe that if Kerri could've competed she would've contended for a gold. Would she have won, maybe, maybe not. But she would've contended.

I have to say that 96 is my favorite leo year. I really liked the leo that the team wore that year out of all the other olympics ive watched. simple and well designed

@runnerboy081 completely agree. Now all the neon colors, glitter, and glamor distracts from the gymnastics. The leos in 96 for all the teams were classy and elegant just like the gymnastics.

@nsyncchick8877 not with this routine. She had a form break in the second tumble. Even without that mistake Aminar had more difficult tumbling and Podkopayeva had better dance. I think without the form break she would have gotten the same score as Dawes (bronze).

@carschup no way could she have won gold in the all around. The team finals was the best set of 4 routines she ever performed in her life, and that score of 39.073 would have only gotten her bronze, almost 2 tenths behind Podkopayeva.

There is no principle which she could have been the gold medalist. The only reason she quailfied first for floor finals was Podkopayeva took a huge step out of bounds in her team optional routine while Amanar and Dawes sucked in compulsories.

@carschup Well it turns out they didn't need her score to win the title... And she was never scored well on beam internationally. Lots of bad form. That would have been her down fall. She had a shot on Vault and Floor for a medal, not sure about gold but a medal on both for sure!

Watch the last tumbling pass(full-twisting double) John Tesh was right everyone was watching Kerri watch the audience and watch how everyone claps and stands up the second Kerri landed. She really is one of the greatest gmnasts.

Yes, but partly, Kerri is just petite, which is a huge advantage for gymnatics, and the required aerodynamics. She doesn't look at all unhealthy, just, lean and light, like a gymnast must be. Like a lot of sports, gymnastics requires a body to have very little body fat, so many of the gymnasts bodies are pre pubescent. : )

@Junon999 Lilia got a 9.85 in the Compulsaries and I think a 9.762 in optionals. She was 2nd to qualify, but it was still a high placement.

@Junon999 Kerri would not have been on the podium in any event. Her floor score here was a 9.837, lower than her teammate Dawes who had a 9.85 and Amanar who had a 9.887. However scoring was higher in team optionals than any other round of the Olympics hence Amanar and Dawes going down to a 9.85 and 9.837 for floor finals. Strug would have gone down too and not medalled. Vault not a chance. AA not likely at all.

@russianskatingfan I agree with you. I don't know what her 2nd vault would have been but I don't see that happening. In the AA her horrid form on beam would have hurt her. Maybe a bronze on floor since Dawes took her place.

The 96 team was so incredible...and I honestly feel that if Kerri wasn't injured, she would have had a shot at the all around gold....every event and move she does is so powerful...not to mention the stuck landings.....people have dogged her, laughed at her, put her down, made fun of her voice (which I think had to do with the female athlete triad) but I think she was a HELL of a gymnast.
