There is and should be a responsibilty in the use of our speech. If I cuss around my children and say demeaning words to them, that is destructive and NOT constructive. I favor more raw comedians personally: Paul Mooney, Andrew Dice Clay, Chubby Brown, etc. Rather than spouting banal observations, they seem to illuminate real truths (albeit at the expense of good taste).

No, Hughley's does not need to come off the air. And no, a white person would not make the same jokes, becaues..he's be white! D.L.'s humor comes from a different place. Stephen Colbert is probably one of the most irreverant comedians out there, but no one is appauled at his show. He went to the White House and insulted the President to his face during the 2006 Correspondant's dinner. So jumping all on D.L Huhgley for sharing his point of view and humor is no need for a call to arms.

DL made a racist comment directed at black women. I.E. they were ugly because of the hair that grows out of their heads. Lastly, I know all about how blacks are treated in this country because I am a black woman. White people are taken to task for the wrongs they do (and rightly so) against blacks. But not black people (black men especially).
But yes, I've been in the closet all my life. That closet being an illusion that I should feel any type of racial kinship with black men.

Phanjazm, I agree with the point you are making. He does have a right to say whatever he wants to say, but what he fails to realize is the consequences of his behavior. There is and should be a responsibilty in the use of our speech. If I cuss around my children and say demeaning words to them, that is destructive and NOT constructive. This works the same way when you demean others whether you are a rapper, comedian or mother. Demeaning speech is not funny, it is destructive.
